Geriatric mm warriors (12/30/09)

The prosecutor that I work with is taking me and his paralegal out to lunch today :) I just hope he takes us somewhere I can eat legal. I'll just stick with salad if that's the only choice then come back to work and eat some of my homemade meatloaf.

I just got back from lunch. Had a great salad with chicken, pistachios and AVACADO  It had a wasabi vinigarette that was really tasty. I might have to try making that at home.

Hi again guys. Still haven't made it to work. Long story, not going there. I wanted to be there by now.

Bev, I believe (Lisa or Robin, correct me if I'm wrong) the oils in it are excellent for you. I know Lisa told Robin if she didn't like it she could mash it up and use it on her face. Supposed to be good for that too. If you can't eat it, wear it :lmao:

Can we have pea shoots? Just saw a recipe that called for them. Seems to be the leaves off the pea plant. Just wondering since we can have snow peas (I got more of those too). I also got green beans (yuck) but I know I need more veges.

Just had my snack of jello and whipped cream. Can't believe how satisfying it is. Who needs candy? I've got jello :thumbsup2

When I got home from Walmart and unpacked my bags, my syrups weren't there!! They had a full shelf of them so I grabbed one of each, I have 2 here already LOL. So, Mike had to go to Walmart, so he's getting them for me. I called them.
Had a really good no-no over the weekend. I know, go ahead and yell. It was a white chocolate hot chocolate with vanilla in it. It was AWESOME!! I am going to order some s/f white chocolate (I know monin makes it and so does gheradeli) and make my own. It is made with milk, as that is how I make mine. I may need to reconsider all my espresso and go with that instead LOL.

Ok, enough rambling. The rain/freezing rain is a couple hours away. Hope your all ok up the east coast. Later everyone :grouphug:

here is the link to allrecipes that has the pea shoots. It sounds really good!!

I'm sorry guys. I've been keeping to myself. I'm still on plan, but not like anyone would recognize. Things got really tough, and I've only had oatmeal with whey protein powder with Psyllium husks added to it. A couple of times friends invited us for dinner making sure there was stuff there on my plan. I haven't been telling anyone because I didn't want anyone to feel like they had to do something. My financial aid check is in the mail to me now and I'll be able to do a big food shopping. The check is for living expenses so food is a good thing to spend it on. We also found a more economical place to live for when our lease is up in March. It's clean, a safe area and a more country type setting. I think it's going to work a lot better for us and the animals because its got a door right into the fenced in back yard, a detached add on that I get to have as a craft/meditation room, and it's close to friends.

Anyway, I think I just haven't been wanting to let anyone know how it's been. It's embarrassing. And after the help you guys (girls) gave me before I was afraid that if I said anything that it might be interpreted as I was hinting for help, and I'm so grateful for all of your friendships, I don't want anyone to get the idea that I'm looking for material things from you. I love all of you, truly. Your such a blessing on to me on this path we are taking together. :grouphug:

Nell, Nell, Nell. Please don't EVER feel that way. We love you whether you've been on plan, off plan, or in between. Please don't ever feel embarrassed by the way things are. We aren't here to judge. We're here to love.
I wish things were easier for you. I AM glad to hear you may have found a more suitable place. If you have a home you like, everything else just sort of falls into place. Please don't think that we think you are hinting. You have NEVER once hinted the whole time I have known you. Just worry about your school. Do well and study like crazy. Miss all your posts though :(
I am so glad to see you here tonight. Just isn't the same without everyone here. I miss every single person when they aren't here.
Please remember we love you!! :grouphug::hug:

Here is a bit of good news guys:
SNACK PACK jello is made with me SPLENDA!! Mike accidentally bought it for instead of the jello brand. I read the ingredients and the last ingredient is sucralose.

Lisa, I peeled my avocado and sliced some very thin then made that into chunks and put in my lettuce wrap sandwich. I ate some avocado!! Robin, I lived to tell about it LOL. It really wasn't too bad. I am thinking it will be one of those things I need to acquire the taste for it.

Cindy - Write the book again! We want to hear from you! LOL, I think when you go away and dont log in for awhile it makes you do it again...does it to me once in awhile too...I know my yahoo messenger does that to me too, just randomly makes me log in again for no apparent reason! FB does that from time to time too...ticks me off, as I can never remember all the darned passwords!!

Are you guys sick of me yet? Im so bored Im posting every 5 minutes!! UGH...heading to the gym then home...hopefully you are rid of me for the evening! LOVE YOU ALL!

I never get sick of hearing from you Robin!!! Love reading you!!! Hope you are having a nice day!

Cindy,

This site used to sign me off all the time, too. I lost every post until I started copying them before I posted and then pasting them in once I had logged in again. Somehow, after I checked the "remember me for further sessions" box ( or maybe there was a place on my info page that I changed to keep me logged on) anyway, all of a sudden, I don't ever have to log in and my posts aren't lost. Maybe it's just Magic. I have absolutely no computer skills, so it probably wasn't due to anything I intentionally did. You might want to ask one of your small children and they will be able to sort it out for you. Without Fail!

Good Luck
Carol

Feast upon the Words of Christ

Thanks Carol - I think I'm going to start copying my posts before I try to send. I shouldn't need my kids since I'm on this stupid comupter all day. Although my 3 year old is quite skilled :).

Thanks for the heads up on the chips, Lisa. We have a couple different "makers" of the blue ones here. I will be checking it out for sure. I am lucky enough that our health food store had started getting in sami wraps, bread, the flavored chip things, and they get their delivery of Fridays. The stuff goes very quickly. Last time, I bought 3 bags of the wraps and froze 2. I have 1/2 package in the frige and a package in the freezer left. I need to get some flat bread wraps. I forgot all about those! I love them!!!
I am so with you on the sitting around. I get up for 1/2 hour and do a bit of house work then sit down for about an hour. It seems to be working. Yesterday it didn't hurt too bad. I worked an 11 hour day, and it didn't bother me too bad. I did manage to find the arnica gel, and tried it before I went to clean my office. My knee did stop aching! I am taking it to work with me today. Take care of the knee and ankle too. You could always do chair exercises. Are you doing exercises on your knee any? My chiropractor showed me some to do. They are more or less stretching type of exercises for it.
Have a great day and stay away from those boots for a little while later!!

Dear Kathy, Yes, I have exercises, but they are quite simple to start with. The more complicated ones are for the ankle. I do better when Tom is home because he makes my hot and cold plunge baths for my foot the PT wants me to do. Have to do 3 hots and 3 colds. I would spill the tub; I'm such a klutz, as you know.:rotfl: I'm glad you are doing better. I went to work today half a day.

I just got back from lunch. Had a great salad with chicken, pistachios and AVACADO  It had a wasabi vinigarette that was really tasty. I might have to try making that at home.

Sounds fantastic! I had another one of my Chinese chicken salads tonight as Tom is late home. I used 1/4 cup grated carrot and 1/4 cup cold peas for the carbs. Very good combo!

Beverly: What happened to Johnnie after Amelia went to the VP? Amelia is a young lady of strong character, demonstrated by her going to him on her own volition. I would have been too shy to do that, I think, at her age. Avacados are just plain good for your soul, Bev! LOL! A little indulgence that keeps life interesting. Plus, the fat in it is of the best kind for you.

Robin: Yes, it’s fun to grow an avocado tree and you can keep it indoors for a long time until it’s too big.

Kate: That snowboarding scares me to death, but I wouldn’t want timid kids either so here we are – doomed to worry for life, lol! I hope Chloe never goes without her helmet. J-P has a fancy one with speakers for his ipod. I’ve never seen him snowboard since he goes up high, but one of his friends filmed him once. He fell and the yelling was so funny. He was cussing, but I had to laugh about how many times he yelled to his friend, "I fell on my a**!" because his friend couldn’t hear him. I hope Toby’s wounds aren’t too bad and that he wears a helmet, too. We’ve lost some lovely people in this world due to head injuries on the slopes. Tom is doing fine – working on helping put the world back together after this round of storms. I played Frisbee in the garage with Bonnie tonight. She seemed pretty satisfied with the substitution. I’m a lightweight when it comes to pelting rain.

Barb: Yahoooo on being fully on plan and not feeling the munchies! I’m so proud of you! You’ll be in those black pants before you know it!

Kathy: Some people scoop avocado, but I prefer to peel it. Don’t use a knife to peel it. Quarter the avocado then peel with your fingers the sections you plan to eat. You won’t waste any that way. Leave the pit in the side you are keeping for later. It will help it not turn brown. You can rub avocado with lime or lemon to keep it green if you are serving it at a party, etc.

Our hot tub was ‘clocked’ at 109 degrees by the latest repair man when it was set for 102. Lord knows what it was when I fainted. The home warranty I bought is probably going to restore the parts to all new and factory approved. That would be the best scenario. It’s amazing how you can get insurance for your possessions but not your body! Let's hope we do a better job than Canada. I think we can!
:grouphug:

Kathy - looks like we are only getting rain...seems it isnt going to get colder after all, so maybe you wont get the sleet either! On the down side, we didnt get sent home early from the office...still here and bored to tears again!
Ok, now you have set the bar on the avocado thing...hope I can find one when I shop on Sunday.

Nell - so so glad to see you, we miss you so much with your info and interesting posts...please dont stay away...so glad you have found somewhere else to move to, I know the place you are in hasnt been the best experience for you.

Barb - I was pretty impressed to hear I could put the avocado on my face if I dont like the taste! Hmmm, wonder if mushrooms, and all the other yukky stuff Lisa and the others eat can be used as beauty products too! LOL, LOVE YOU LISA!!!

Lisa - actually I think seaweed is used in some beauty regimes too isnt it? So glad you got to work at least part of the day today, must have felt good to get out of the house for awhile!

Cindy - you are too sweet! I sometimes feel like Im talking to myself here on days when y'all are busy and nobody's posting! LOL, too funny that your 3 year old is computer literate! I remember the good old days when mainframes were as big as a car, and I took my firxt and only computer class during my final year of college! Hard to believe my entire college experience included writing papers by hand or on a typewriter!! OMG, I totally remember typing my thesis paper! NIGHTMARE!

Melanie - sorry you guys didnt feel you were having success with MM, I know alot of us took a bit longer than a month for the benefits to kick in. What are you guys trying now? Keep in touch and let us know how its going!

Bev - if all this stuff we are eating to reduce our belly fat was actually REDUCING our belly fat, NONE of us would have any belly fat left by now! LOL, dont know about you, but mine is still in residence!

Nell: It was wonderful to see you and we would never judge your sharing so please don't hold back. Having each other to lean on is how we are going to be successful in healing our lives. I can't help but wonder if you have a Haitian child in your future someday. I think of it a lot when I think of you. How's school going??? Once, Tom and I ate steaks for a whole week that my Mom had given me for the dog they were so bad. I marinated them, everything I could think of to make them edible. We have some good jokes with my parents now about 'dog steak' years and I give that pep talk to all of my newlywed homebuyers. It's the lean times that you draw on later in life. Let's just pray yours don't last much longer!

Melanie: Please visit when you can and here's a toast to your good health. I agree with Robin. The book even says Step 1 isn't nearly as much about weight loss as it is healing and preparing your body for Step 2. I started losing the most after 13 weeks total.

Hi Evryone,

Busy with lots of things, but nothing noteworthy!!

I grew up on avacado sandwiches. Mother made them all the time. We always have a bag of them in the refrigerator. I think they are a California thing though. People always ask me to bring guacamole to parties with my swiss cheese crackers. I need to make a batch of crakers for a party we are going to on Saturday evening - they were requested.

Beverly - sorry you had to go through the trauma with your daughter. I still would have to blame the other family, too, for having such a thing out where children could even get their hands on it.

I have been re-reading low carb books - I have bookcase full!!! The recurring theme is carb creep and artificial sweeteners when weight stalls. I haven't gained, but haven't lost either. I really need to get some more pounds off so I am not carrying it around with me all the time. I don't need to lose a lot, but even 5 more pounds would be nice - 10 more would be even nicer!!

Plain water and I are not friends, but I am trying. I just found out that they want to raise the deposit on canned drinks and bottled water another 5 cents
per bottle/can here. Maybe that will be the incentive I need to not buy any more canned sodas!!! I've gone 2 days without it!!!! They don't put a deposit on wine bottles, though LOL:)

We have been having a lot of wind here, but no rain yet. It is supposed to be a wet weekend, though. We usually lose power when we have high winds and then the elevator goes out!!! It is still working so hopefully it will stay that way! I am not a fan of climbing up and down 160+ steps!!!

The days are staying lighter longer here, too, so know that the weather will get warmer soon. It is still warmer out here than anywhere else, though!!! Just windy - not tropical breezes!

Melanie - nice to see you. Did anyone in your family have a lot of weight to lose? I am beginning to think MM is a great maintenance diet and is certainly healthy, just not quite what some bodies need.

Off to make our taco salads with black soy beans and some avacado!!!

Hugs to ALL:grouphug:

I wanted to pass on a tip from a friend who's father was an avocado grower. To test an avocado's ripeness, squeeze it like Lisa said, but squeeze it from end to end not on the sides. It should give some. All of you that have had avocados and not liked them might have had unripe ones...they're kind of hard, watery and bitter tasting, not smooth and creamy and kind of nutty like a ripe one. You people back east might also get a different kind of avocado from Florida. The ones out here of which we speak are mostly Haas or Bacon varieties and they are very rich. I have had some from Florida before that were quite large and watery tasting(sorry Nell and Laura).
A chicken salad sandwich with avocado, sprouts and swiss cheese is possibly the ultimate best sandwich ever in my book! Sorry Robin.
Good Luck

I see I missed some posts when I did mine. Nell - so nice to see you. We all love you and just want to hear how you are doing. It sounds as if things will get better for you. We will all keep praying for that to happen.

When you go to buy an avacado it is sometimes best to buy a firm one and let it ripen at home. There is nothing quite like a too ripe avacado unless you are into guacamole!!! The stem end should be loose when it is ripe - the little brown thing should still be on the avacado. If you are in a hurry to ripen them you can put it in a brown bag and that will help.

I forgot to mention that I found some organic natural peanut butter at Costco yesterday - peanuts and salt. The 2 bottle package was about $7 as opposed to $7 for one jar at Whole Foods. It tastes quite good, too.

I made the 1 minute muffin last night with cinnamon. I cut it in half to have as my treat and left it sitting out. Well, by the time I went to eat it someone else had sampled it - it looked as if a mouse had found its way up to our apartment. My hubby said maybe it was a rather large rat that attacked it!!!:scared1: What was left was quite tasty though. It is so much fun to be able to create something in one minute that is good!! The other half is wrapped up still for tonight! He has already been asking about it!!! I made him pumpkin mousse, though!!

Til' later!

Well, I'm not sure if I can catch up with everything, but I'm going to start talking again. I shouldn't allow myself to be so caught up in what is wrong instead of what is right anyway. I am still on plan, even if every meal is the same, and that is a blessing.

Gosh, that is an awfully high heat Lisa. Thank god your ok and didn't pass out in the tub. It sounds like it's a good idea when you have a hot tub to have a back up thermometer to check periodically that it's setting the heat right. It would be the greatest blessing ever if I could adopt a child but in Florida I can't legally adopt.

That's good to know about the snack packs Kathy.

Carol, I've tried avocado with rice before and it does taste good. I have a hard time getting over the texture. I know it's healthy though and actually should be more open to it.

Jocelyn, I'm glad your so near the ocean as it gets warmer. I didn't like the heat in Puerto Rico at all when we lived there, but I think I could have adjusted had the beach been so close. :)

Hi everyone. Early morning today for me. My eyes popped open around 5, so I laid in bed for 1/2 hour then got up and got a shower before Carrie got up. Kind of nice to be up before everyone else.

Robin, seems as though we managed just rain. The temp is hovering around 34* but most of the precipitation has moved out or close to it. But it is to warm up a bit now. Tomorrow is to be in the 50's!! Thanks for sending the warm weather up!!

Lisa, glad your knee and ankle are doing a bit better. 109*? No wonder you fainted!! I'm glad to hear you had the warranty on it so you won't have to pay for the parts. Thanks for letting me know how to peel an avocado. I did use a knife, as you hadn't posted yet :( All in all it was very easy to peel. I don't know where these ones came from. I got it at Walmart. I will have to check and see. We have a Martins (Giant) that tends to sell the "better" produce, so I'll check there as well. I usually get my fruits and veges there, but they are a bit pricey, but well worth it. I want to say top of the line quality. Just wanted to make sure I liked them before I bought an expensive kind ;) The one I got was very creamy, but couldn't really taste it due to all the lettuce, mayo, etc. And thanks for the heads up on how to store the left over. Of course I didn't read it first (again) and took the pit out of the other half. Probably brown as can be now. Oh well, I can still eat it!!

Carol, thanks for the tip on how to pick out the avocados. I did the "normal" squeeze. Now I know better ;) All in all it wasn't too bad. Mike did try a piece of it just plain, and he said there wasn't much taste to it. But his taster sometimes is way off due to his paint poisoning.

Jocelyn, thanks for the heads up too on how to pick one out. By the time you are all done, I'll be the expert avocado picker/eater in PA LOL!! I do know picking out a ripe one is very important when it comes to taste. I will be eating more today with my sandwich.

Well, need to get ready for work. Have a sort of long day today. Found out yesterday that one of our friends, well actually Levi's uncle who is part of "the gang" passed away yesterday morning. He was 64! They are thinking it was a heart attack. Yet more reason to take care of ourselves. So we will be going to the funeral home tonight 7-9 and probably the funeral tomorrow morning. He had a history of a bad heart if I remember right. Just such a shame. His son and his wife just had their 2nd child about 6 months ago or so. At least he got to enjoy his 2 grandchildren for a bit.

My financial aid check is in the mail to me now and I'll be able to do a big food shopping. The check is for living expenses so food is a good thing to spend it on. We also found a more economical place to live for when our lease is up in March. It's clean, a safe area and a more country type setting.

Nell - Don't hide from us, we love you no matter what! I'm sorry to hear that things have been financially difficult, but glad to know your check is in the mail. Visit us often. If you disappear again, we'll have to assume you are addicted to Farmville and send Dr. Phil to your house. :rotfl:

Here is a bit of good news guys:
SNACK PACK jello is made with me SPLENDA!! Mike accidentally bought it for instead of the jello brand. I read the ingredients and the last ingredient is sucralose.

Lisa, I peeled my avocado and sliced some very thin then made that into chunks and put in my lettuce wrap sandwich. I ate some avocado!! Robin, I lived to tell about it LOL. It really wasn't too bad. I am thinking it will be one of those things I need to acquire the taste for it.

Kathy - Isn't it great that the Snack pack has splenda? It seems more and more companies are getting rid of the Aspartame. I even bought some Pepsi throwback for my kids this week because I don't like to buy anything with HFCS. My son said it was very sweet.

If you can eat avocado, maybe I'll try it too.

Dear Kathy, Yes, I have exercises, but they are quite simple to start with. The more complicated ones are for the ankle. I do better when Tom is home because he makes my hot and cold plunge baths for my foot the PT wants me to do. Have to do 3 hots and 3 colds. Lisa - Glad to know you have made it back to work and it sounds like Tom is taking good care of you.

:grouphug:

Jonny also got suspended. Amelia tried to explain that it wasn't his fault, but they were both punished. His parents are mortified that Amelia even found such a thing in their house. The dad found it in the parking lot of Gander Mountain and picked it up. Obviously Jonny found it and had it on his dresser. They don't even own a gun that it "fits" either. Both the VP and the Counselor have commented how impressed they were that Amelia "fessed up" and didn't wait to be called in to the VP's office. That is the reason we told her that she was allowed to keep her b-day party. (We didn't mention that it was the only day in her dad's schedule that would work.)

OMG - 109 degrees? No wonder you fainted. It sounds weird, but lucky you got out when you only damaged your knee and foot.

Hard to believe my entire college experience included writing papers by hand or on a typewriter!! OMG, I totally remember typing my thesis paper! NIGHTMARE!

Bev - if all this stuff we are eating to reduce our belly fat was actually REDUCING our belly fat, NONE of us would have any belly fat left by now! LOL, dont know about you, but mine is still in residence!

I remember buying a really fancy auto correct typewriter for college. I made money typing papers for other students. $1/page if I typed it the way you wrote it, $3/page if if I proofread and corrected along the way.

My belly fat is still hanging around also (pun intended).

I tell the story of paying bills the first time after we were married. I had $4 left in the checking account to last for 2 weeks. I called Bob crying.

Hi Evryone,

Hi Jocelyn - I missed you.

The other family is very upset that she even found the bullet there. Luckily I think we are all going to make it thru this with our friendships intact. The mom is still coming over on Monday and Tuesday to help me paint my living room, hang pics, etc. The addition was put on my house almost 13 years ago and I am still living with Contractor Beige walls, and no pics. Obviously, decorating is not my forte.

I also think I need to watch the carb creep. It is fairly easy to eat one thing that is 11-20, but I also need to add in the carbs from my salad dressing, etc.

I was never a water fan either, but I have been dilligent about getting my 64 oz. in this time. I have also quit drinking soda. I think I have had 3 in the past 3-4 months.

A chicken salad sandwich with avocado, sprouts and swiss cheese is possibly the ultimate best sandwich ever in my book! Sorry Robin.

That sounds interesting. I need to make some chicken salad. I get so bogged down in eating the same things day in, week out.

I made the 1 minute muffin last night with cinnamon. I cut it in half to have as my treat and left it sitting out. Well, by the time I went to eat it someone else had sampled it - it looked as if a mouse had found its way up to our apartment. Maybe that large rat WAS your husband. :goodvibes

Sorry for the loss of your friend.

Jocelyn: I read somewhere that giving up diet sodas averages a 23 lb. weight loss over a year. The artificial sweetener messes with your insulin and brain, plus there’s a lot of sodium. Good for you for giving them up! Have you tried a cucumber slice in water? It’s really refreshing. I agree about buying firm avacado. I was just afraid Kathy would try to eat one that’s not ripe, lol! I usually buy 4 and make sure I can eat one right away at least. I use those Debbie Meyer green bags in the fridge and everything is lasting so much longer. Costco is getting some surprising selections in for us; that’s great!

You’ll have to put twin muffin cups in from now on! I haven’t treated Tom to a muffin yet. I should do that this weekend.

Kathy: We have another thermometer, but it was dark. I’ll have to turn on the lights next time. I still haven’t heard from the 3rd repair man they referred it to. The problem for me with the one that put the bogus part in is that I sold his house! Awkward! I think I’ll write him a letter after we get back to normal and of course we won’t use him again.

I’m sorry to hear of the loss of your friend, and so young! We’ll be thinking of you today.
