Geriatric mm warriors (12/30/09)

Robin: The farmer in you might have fun sprouting your own seeds for alfalfa and broccoli sprouts. They are really easy and cute to grow. You don't want to cook them. You'll get used to them, I bet really soon. Like Kate said a little mayo somehow goes great with sprouts - and pile that wrap with all your favorites! I often add sprouts to a green salad. With all the other ingredients, you won't notice any difference in taste. Oh, and sprinkle in some sunflower seeds. Those go great with them too. Can you get avacados all year there? If not, I'm not moving to the co-op!:rotfl:

Kate - so glad Chloe made it home safely!

Lisa - hmmmm, so I can sprout my own broccoli...wonder how I get that started? Better go do some research on that one! Where is Nell when you need her! I bet she knows how! We can get the avocados year round, so you're still moving here! LOL, but I know you wont believe this...I think they're YUK!! haha, the texture is just so weird to me! kind of slimy or something...

Where is Kathy? I rarely start the day without her post being the first one of the day?

Come to think of it where is ANYBODY?!!! Awfully quiet today ladies...

TOM AND REBECCA ARE PREGNANT!!! According to his FB page anyway!!

Sunday

Kathy – the Hoisen sauce is for Oriental cooking. It is used in Chinese Chicken Salad, etc. Lisa had asked for a low carb version.

The cookbook 500 Low Carb Recipes by Dana Carpender has a lot of very useful recipes – especially sauces that can be very high carb. She used to have a very good web site – Hold the Toast, but is not as active as it was several years ago.

It is now Monday!!!

My turkey dinner with the trimmings was a huge hit last night. No more turkeys in the freezer, though. We’ll have leftovers tonight.

I just made a 1 minute muffin for the first time – what fun. I had no idea anything could come out quite so good in such a short time!!! Fun.

Yes, we are having another summery day here. It started out quite overcast, but then cleared so now not a cloud in the sky. The pool is COLD though as the evenings get a bit cooler this time of year. It shouldn’t be long, though, before I can venture back in and not freeze. It is nice to sit outside and absorb the warmth, though!! I really am spoiled….and we used to think California had pretty good weather!!!

I was looking for something else on the computer and came across a site that said recipes for MM’Bs!!! I went to it and found this recipe. I lost the link, though, but didn’t see anything else I was interested in. I could find it again, probably.

Cranberry Muffins

1 cup whole fresh cranberries
1.25 cup flax seed meal
1 tsp baking powder
3 tbls cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup splenda

4 large eggs
.25 cup olive oil
.5 cup Da Vinci's Vanilla sugar free syrup
1 tbls vanilla

Directions
Pre heat oven to 350
Liberally butter the muffin tins, makes 12 muffins with enough batter to make 3 more if you want to dirty up an extra muffin tin, or just put the remainder in a cereal bowel and cook in microwave for about 1min and 30 sec, and have a really big muffin. Do not use muffin liners they will stick.

Pour boiling water over cranberries and let sit for 5 minutes.
mix wet ingredients and dry ingredients seperatly and then combine, minus the carnberries you don't use them yet.
let mixture stand for about 10 minutes to thicken.
fold in cranberries once thickened a little bit.
Fill each muffin cup up about 1/2 to 3/4 full.
Bake for about 17 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
These will keep for about a week in the frig and 3 months inthe freezer.

I cup of raw cranberries is only 12 carbs and 4 grams of fiber = 8 carbs for the whole batch. I would think these would be a freebie eaten one at a time!! A little orange rind would be a good addition, too.

Happy MMing!!:grouphug:

Robin: You could have picked me up off the floor when I learned you don't like avacados - NOT!!!:lmao:

Jocelyn: Those muffins sound wonderful. I use orange rind in the ones I always make at Christmas. Yummo. I'm jealous of your weather! It was really windy and rainy here today, but we need the water so we can't complain.

Good morning everyone. Sorry I was MIA yesterday. I had slept on the couch that night, and woke up to the tv being somewhat loud. I laid there a couple minutes and decided it was around 5:30. Went back to sleep and Tyson then decided to lick my face LOL. Nothing like a boxer face looking at you when you open your eyes :lmao: Anyway, he proceeded to get Mike up and I decided to figure out what time it was. I went to the kitchen and it was 7:15! I flipped out. Couldn't figure out why Carrie didn't get me up to take her to school. Start to run up the steps to wake her up and realized no school. DUH!! So my whole day was a little messed up. Sunday was just an extremely lazy day. I was wiped out for some reason, so I just took it easy. I did manage to go to work around 6 pm!!

Jocelyn, thanks for the heads up on the hoisen sauce. Sounds really good!! Hope you don't get too much rain!
I too am having a hard time with step 1. I do really well during the week, then the weekend hits and it goes to he** in an instant. I really need to work on this. I haven't touched any type of nachos though LOL. And it's not like major pig outs. Just snacking off and on on not legal stuff. I need to readjust my mentality for this. :(

Lisa, thanks for the heads up on the arnica gel. I am going to pick some up. I knew about it also, but completely forgot!! I hope your knee and ankle are getting better. Just be careful!!

Tom, if your reading, CONGRATS!! A little Mojo!! I am so excited for you and Rebecca!!

Kate, glad Chloe made it back safe and sound. I agree, it's good to know how to lock in a 4 wheel drive before you have to actually do it!!

Robin, congrats on the compliment!! I can only imagine what Ken will say about your weight loss when he sees you!!
No, we got rain the other day. But it has just started sleeting here now. I know they are calling for rain most of today, so hoping it warms up above freezing soon so it switches over to rain.

Diane, congrats on the smaller sized pants. Sorry about how you came about finding that you needed smaller ones. Hopefully you can exchange them for a smaller size!!

Went to Sam's club last night to get a prescription filled. Our Walmart wants $50/month for the generic. Sam's club wants $14! Isn't that crazy? It is worth me to go even with gas money figured in. I checked again on my syrups. They don't have what I want. Only s/f raspberry. They don't even have the regular caramel (for Mike). So, either get it at walmart, or order the davinci online. I am thinking of ordering it as the davinci has 0 net carbs and the torani caramel has 1 per tablespoon. I don't use that much in my coffee thank goodness. But I like the idea of 0.

I am off today, so I will be here off and on. I need to do some housework that I didn't get done over the weekend. Shouldn't take me too long though. Maybe a few hours.

I'll catch up with you all later! Have a great day!
:grouphug:

Kathy: It was good to see you today! Sounds like you are feeling much better. I'm so glad. Make sure you take it easy and don't overdo. I'm still not really doing housework and finally had to break down and get Tom to vaccum. That resulted in Bonnie getting the brushing of her life. Now he knows what I have to contend with, lol! We're having a doozy of a storm today with 40 mile an hour winds and a lot of rain. I'm hoping my clients don't want to visit houses today! Our pool is 'overfloating' as J-P used to say when he was little.

Lisa, thank you for the concern. I don't plan to over do it at all LOL. I did manage to finally dust the living room and sitting room. Thankfully they weren't too bad. I need to sweep now. I will do that in a while. Have a couple errands that need taken care of.
I would love a thunderstorm about now. I love to sit and watch them. But I do get a little nervous when it gets windy out. Always afraid of a tornado :(
Hope you don't get flooded by the over floating pool LOL.
I'll catch up with you later!! Take care of yourself also. Hope they don't want to see the house today!! Just tell them no way!!! LOL

I'm back. Buahahahaha

I have been on overdrive for several days. I've been recruited to help a couple of organizations here get donations of baby food/ supplies and toiletries for the poor people in Haiti. We were able to get several cases of toothpaste and bar soap and a couple dozen cases of babyformula. Not a lot considering the need but we're pleased we can help.

I'm glad to see everyone's health is improving and I'm thrilled for Tom and his wife.

I have to share something I read online today. About 20 people in Sweden were at a Weight Watchers meeting and the floor collapsed  Sooo, the moral to this story is, if we ever get together for a MM Warrior meeting, let's do it after we've lost our weight :lmao:

That is just too funny!!!:lmao::rotfl2: Thanks for the laugh!!

We could still meet on Robin's property, but we might cause a sinkhole, lol!:lmao:Those poor people. How embarrassing!

Where the heck is everybody? Im starting to wonder if all the MIA's are all off plan? We dont care!! Everybody come back!!

Lisa - I read up on the sprouting thing...it seems they are rather delicate and it sounded more difficult than I really have time for right now...but definitely interesting! I have been wrapping my alfalfa up in turkey, cheese and lettuce and pushing through the weird taste and texture...Im SO committed to doing better this year with eating healthier...not just MM, but better MM choices and more veggies and antioxidants. I may just pick up a darn avocado this weekend and see if I can deal with it somehow! :scared1:

Kathy - we got the rain, then it got nice, now its going to rain again, then get nice again...OMG, cant figure this weather out! At least it is WARM, so thats definitely a good thing for me! I hate the cold any more...these old joints just dont like it! Tyson and Lobster would have gotten a kick out of Harley today...apparently he has some new plan to bury all his personal possessions...like he thinks I am going to take them away? Um, DUH, Im the one who GAVE them to you silly dog! So he has been dragging all my fleece throws around and burying his tennis balls and rawhides in them...if I even walk NEAR them he gives me this accusing look as if Im trying to uncover them and snatch them away!

Barb - chuckling over here too...how embarrassing if we all get to go to Oprah show and then our collective fat butts collapse the place!!:eek:

Kathy - forgot to tell you every now and again Amazon does that free shipping thing for orders over $25...I got a 3 pak of the big bottles of caramel syrup and a couple other flavors, plus the little flavored splendas for coffee in bulk, and a few other things...FREE shipping! YAY! If you search for Davinci on the food portion of their site it looks as though they have a whole bunch of new flavors coming out that Amazon will be carrying soon..I cant wait to try some of them!

Nationwide Sales is doing the Haiti thing too, so we are collecting personal hygiene and baby stuff as well...seems like food is being taken care of by so many organizations, so we decided to go with the other stuff like soap, socks, anti bacterial stuff, hard candies and mints, diapers, etc etc...such a terrible thing those people are going through. My neighbor works for an environmental clean up company and when he got to work yesterday they were handing out papers to get their passports...seems they are going to Haiti to assist ...Tim will be gone for a month, but the pay is really good since its government funded...so us girls are going to have to hold down the fort around the farm for a month...OMG!:scared1:

Evening Ladies and Tom,

Pony thanks for the shout out!! It does look quiet here. I have now been on plan for a week and do feel much better. Plan, plan and more planning does seem to be one of the keys. I do have a more hopeful outlook and I think the eating plan has a great deal to do with it.

We spent the morning separating calves that needed to go to the sale and now I hear "Mamas" balling and will all night. They just had to go, gotten too big!

One of my former students whose kids I ended up having is struggling with her weight. I made the trip over to leave her my book and the summary from the UK article.

Pony, I love the dump man story!! That proves it is working. Are most of you on Step 2?? I know some have gone back to one, but was curious if anybody was having success on 2 over a long period of time.

My Dad continues to well and is talking about going home maybe in the spring. If so I hope he goes with a whole new outlook. He has done amazing
in making a recovery.

Watching the biggest loser!!

Gena

Robin: Thanks for messaging everyone! I hope they come back soon. We do miss all of our friends. I'm glad you might try the avacado again! Just have it give slightly to the touch and not be mushy. Score it in half and half again and the peel will peel off easily and leave you all the flesh. It's really very creamy, not slimy. I eat them several times a week. If all else fails, mash it and put in on your face, LOL!

I'm finding that planning ahead and making twice as much as I need is a real key to being in the mood to make dinner. We had the halibut Veracruz again tonight. Last time, I served half of the sauce and froze the other half. Making the mashed cauliflower an hour or so before dinner and zapping it at the end makes it easier for me, too. Five minutes to make the fish and the same five for peas and presto! I'm wanting to make some chili this week, too.

Gena: Tom and I have had great success on Step 2. We've lost more on Step 2 than on Step 1. Keep it simple. Plan your meals 5 hours or less apart and make sure you plan for an 11-20 at the time you think of the meal - not as an afterthought. Have those snacks on hand for between lunch and dinner. We find it very easy to stay on plan on Step 2. Every two weeks or so I notice clothes fitting better. It's been slow and steady for us both. I hit the 20 lb. mark last week. Let me know if you have any questions at all.

Robin: Sprouting is easy with a big jar, some cheesecloth, a rubber band, dark cupboard and rinse them every day. If my Mom can do it, you can do it! The fun part is when you take them out after they sprout and put them on a tray to photosynthesize. It's fun to watch them turn green.

Hi Ladies - I've been so busy painting my house. Did the kitchen and the foyer, with my hubby's help! It looks so good. Havent' been on the computer except to work that is. I bought another can of paint for my living room, plan on doing that over the weekend if not sooner.

I'm off plan...I figured I'd give my detox another try and see how that works for me. I never did end up losing any "weight" on MM, but my sister has lost 25 lbs. I'm so happy for her. She's been doing it now since September when I told her about it and how I felt so good while I was on MM.

Hoping everyone is doing well and miss y'all!

Love ya - Cin

We had a big storm come through here yesterday and were without power from late morning until last night at 11:00 pm. I enjoyed eating dinner by candlelight but when it got time for bed, it was hard to read with one of those book lights and a few candles. We are supposed to get more heavy storms again tomorrow and thurs so I imagine the power will be out some more. A lot of trees fell from the high winds and the soggy roots that have been stressed by the drought conditions we've had the past few years.

Kate, I'm glad Chloe made it back to Tacoma safely. And yes, I too think you should know how to put your car in 4 wheel drive before you actually need too. Kids! Lobster says "Hi" and nothing new to report. The rain kind of hinders his shoe (or stuffed animal) runs, so we're now just finding the shoes scattered all over the house. You might have to go to several rooms and possibly down or up the stairs to find the match for the shoe you'd like to wear...but at least not outside. It's doable! He did take exception to the covers on my bed a few days ago and rearranged them in a big heap. I had to remake the bed before I could go to bed. Kind of a pain.

Robin, That's funny about Harley and his toys. I only have 1 of the dogs that will eat rawhide chewies and the other 2 take them and hide them all over the house. I have found them under my bed covers, down in the sofa cushions, in the dirty clothes, and buried in the yard. I gave up buying them. My mother setter likes tennis balls and caries those around with her but loses them very frequently. She takes them with her to run and chase coyotes away or just to run in the hills and ends up dropping them there and forgetting to bring them home. They are probably in the same place that all of Lobster's cache of shoes have ended up. The single shoe and tennis ball graveyard.LOL

That's wonderful that so many of you have had the opportunity to do humanitarian aid work for the people of Haiti...it's just a mind boggling devastation they are faced with.

My oldest daughter's birthday is tomorrow, Jan 20th........we think. She was born around midnight of Jan 19th and came so quickly (because the Dr wanted to get home to bed so he upped my Pettocin Drip and she was born within 1/2 hr) we all forgot to look at the clock until about 10mins after midnight on the 20th. We just decided to agree that she was born on the 20th. I think she enjoys having this little drama story of her birth. We really don't know which day she was born on.

I'm glad everyone is doing well and that we all seem to be settling into our various steps...mostly. I'm glad body parts are healing for those with boo boo's. People sound content and basically happy so that's good.

Have a great night,

Carol

Good morning everyone. I hope this day finds everyone happy and well.

Robin, sounds like Harley doesn't trust you LOL. Tyson does the same thing with his knuckle bones. As soon as it's thawed out, he puts it in his fleece throw and drags the throw all through the downstairs. Like we don't know where it's at LOL. It is so funny to watch them do that though. Once in a while he will hide it under his pillows (he has 2 because neither one is big enough for him). You just need to have a long, long talk with him LOL.

Carol, sorry to hear about the storms. I'll be saying a prayer that they ones coming your way now aren't as severe.

Lisa, I think I may have to agree with Robin on the avacado. I tried it once about a year ago and didn't really care for it. But it was in a salad, so maybe prepared different, I would have liked it.

Cindy, great to see you!! Glad to hear your sister is doing so well on MM. Good luck with your detox. And have fun painting your house (yuk).

Gena, I am so happy to hear of all the progress your dad is making. I am continuing to pray for him and also your family for strength. I think we have all witnessed so many miracles within our little family here.

Have a long day today I believe, if I clean offices tonight. I am tired of doing them on the weekend, so going to attempt to do them tonight. I can always divide them up and do one tonight, and 2 tomorrow night. I will have to see how my knee is feeling after working all day.

Just a quick update on Mike's son. He seems to be doing very well. He has been going to the guidance center appointments and also the drug/alcohol appointments as well as meetings like AA but for drug abuse. I can't thank you all enough for the prayers. It has been a long road, but nothing worth doing is easy. He has been helping the elderly lady he is staying with. Shoveling, helping with things around the house, "man" type of things.

Well, off to get dressed. Have a great day everyone!!!
:grouphug:

Hi Everyone. Thanks for sending the email Robin. When Ken comes home you have to take him to the dump with you to meet his rival. :lmao:

I've been enjoying the gym so much. I went yesterday at 6 am and walked on the treadmill for 1/2 hr. and then went on the bike for 1/2 hr. Then in the afternoon I was bored so I went back and did it over again. I watched Dr. Oz while I was there. I said to my son "America, next time you see me I'll be thin & fit." He's seen Biggest Loser, so he got the joke.

I'm still unemployed and it seems to me that job openings are becoming scarce. I've applied to over 70 jobs and have only had 2 interviews. When I send my resume it's like I'm just tossing it out the window never to hear anything again.

I love avocados! They have a mild, nutty taste to me. I like them sliced on a salad with a little salt. My sister will only eat them in guacamole.

Carol - I hope the weather calms down out there. Happy Birthday to your daughter!

Good Morning Everyone! Seems like our milder weather has left again...darn it, its windy and blustery today, although still above freezing, so I guess winter still has a grip on Central Virginia!

Sent out that e-mail to try to round up our MM's and let them know we love and miss them, on or off plan!! I know that I would continue to come here for the fellowship and support regardless of plan, so hope some of them will return to us!!

Lisa - ok, armed with my new avocado knowledge, I will attempt to purchase one this weekend...aside from putting it on a salad or making guacomole (EEWW, GROSS) what else can I do with it? LOL, hope to put it IN my body, but on my face will be a last resort!

Gena - Lisa and Tom are doing AWESOME on step 2 and Nell is too, but I think most of the rest of us are on step 1 or some modified version of it. I just cant seem to tolerate step2...blood sugar goes back up in less than 2 days! Dont know if its the fruits or what, but just cant do it. So Diane gave me free rein to remain on step 1 for the duration of my weight loss...then we will revisit the carb thing when I have gotten nearer to my goal. I have now lost 30 total pounds and finally seen almost 2 inches leave my hips...bought a pair of 14/16 pants yesterday but havent had the guts to try them on yet! lol, Im a big chicken about it! Dont want to be disappointed I guess! Glad your Dad is still doing well, and hope the mama cows arent keeping you awake! We have only one calf due this year, and not for another month or so, but we are all quite familiar with the bawling mama and calf thing!!

Cindy - good to see you, and go YOU for all that painting! I am hopeless t that sort of thing, more paint on me than the walls, and they always look like a total amateur ( ME ) did it! Cool that your sister has had good MM results, and hope your detox works for you! Please share that detox...which one are you doing, and for how long?

Carol - wondered if any of you in CA got the storms I was seeing on the news...sounded like they were quite strong. Maybe if Lobster had his own pair of shoes he would understand the value of the concept of a "pair"? LOL, had a funny visual of your family hunting the house in the morning for a matching pair to wear that day!

Diane - so GLAD you are enjoying the gym! I LOVE MY GYM!! I am praying that a good job will come along for you soon...I know it is so discouraging...my girlfriend in CT has been jobless for almost a year now, and she is an accomplished IT person...well educated and with amazing resume...there just isnt anything to apply for...and all the interviews she has had just dont pan out...too many people applying for too few positions. Very scary... As for taking Ken to the dump with me, I would so HATE to break Ron's heart! LOL, he would be quite intimidated by Ken Im afraid!!

Kathy - thanks for the update on Mike's son, that is such wonderful news that he is doing well..lets pray that this whole thing was a welcome wake up call for him and that he will continue to get his life on track.

Dennis continues to hold his own, and today I am off early to have luunch with a friend who is going through an aboslutely awful divorce...she had stepped away from her faith for the past year or so, and reached out to me to talk with her about it...amazing how God puts us in the right place at the right time to assist our friends in their journey back to HIM!! Pray for Angi to be strong and lean on the Lord for the strength she needs right now!

Kate: I forgot to tell you that the Oregon transportation website has cameras at many locations on I-5. You can look in real time and see if the road is plowed, etc. I found it very comforting last Christmas when the snow was so heavy and J-P was inching his way home. We try to encourage him to make it over Mt. Shasta (the pass by Ashland) before dark each way.

http://www.tripcheck.com/Pages/RCmap.asp?curRegion=0&mainNav=RoadConditions

Thank you Lisa. About the only thing I insisted on (since I lost the battle of having her drive with someone) was that she couldn't drive in the dark! Ice, snow, big scary monsters, etc.! I may have to ask you for that link again because even if I bookmark it, I will probably forget what it is....
