Sad day. Rest in peace former President Ford. Prayers out to his family.
One of the more underrated Presidents in modern history. He had some of the toughest political obstacles of any President during the 20th century and managed to maintain dignity and restore some faith in that office.
RIP, President Ford.
I hope this isn't inappropriate, but does anyone know if we should be at half-mast?
I don't think it's inappropriate at all. I thought I heard on the news that President Bush has already ordered flags over federal buildings at half-mast, but if he hasn't I'm sure he will soon. I'd say if you want, go ahead and take your flag to half-mast.
He was the oldest. The Colbert Report did a bit on this a couple of weeks ago when President Ford passed ReaganSad. He always looked so kind to me. As a child I felt so badly for him when he lost the election. Wasn't he the oldest former President? I think he beat Reagan by a few weeks.
The pardon, intensely unpopular at the time, came to be generally viewed as correct. In May 2001, Mr. Ford was honored with a Profile in Courage Award at the John F. Kennedy Library in Boston. Senator Edward M. Kennedy spoke and said he had originally opposed the pardon. But time has a way of clarifying past events, he said, and now we see that President Ford was right.
