Gerald Ford Has Died

One of the more underrated Presidents in modern history. He had some of the toughest political obstacles of any President during the 20th century and managed to maintain dignity and restore some faith in that office.

I agree. Godspeed Mr.President.

With regard to President Nixon's pardon, isn't it amazing how things which seem so wrong at the time seem so right many years later? Really gives creedence to the statement "History will record his true worth". And once again, it also shows how much control the media had (and has) over what we think.

Food for thought...

Rest In Peace, President Ford.

Sad. He always looked so kind to me. As a child I felt so badly for him when he lost the election. Wasn't he the oldest former President? I think he beat Reagan by a few weeks.

Very sad:sad2: :sad2:

I just called my Dad and told him. He was a good friend of my Grandpa's.

He was a wonderful President.

May he rest in peace.

RIP, President Ford.

I hope this isn't inappropriate, but does anyone know if we should be at half-mast?

I don't think it's inappropriate at all. I thought I heard on the news that President Bush has already ordered flags over federal buildings at half-mast, but if he hasn't I'm sure he will soon. I'd say if you want, go ahead and take your flag to half-mast.

It's generally 30 days for an former President.

RIP, President Ford.

An underated man who put the country's interests above his own. A very classy gentleman who did not ask for the tempest he was thrown into. Rest In Peace Mr. President.

He was the oldest. The Colbert Report did a bit on this a couple of weeks ago when President Ford passed Reagan

RIP, President Ford. Thank you for your service to our country.

I remember when he pardoned Nixon. At the time I was upset and the pardon did factor into my vote in 1976. It may well be that the pardon of Nixon was the correct decision after all. Here is a nice quote from Senator Kennedy about the pardon. http://www.nytimes.com/2006/12/27/w...r=2&ref=obituaries&pagewanted=all&oref=slogin
The pardon, intensely unpopular at the time, came to be generally viewed as correct. In May 2001, Mr. Ford was honored with a “Profile in Courage” Award at the John F. Kennedy Library in Boston. Senator Edward M. Kennedy spoke and said he had originally opposed the pardon. “But time has a way of clarifying past events,” he said, “and now we see that President Ford was right.”

He was a decent, honorable man. Even my grandmother, the staunchest Democrat I ever knew, admired him. Thank you for your service, Mr. President.
