Georgia traffic warning and other highway info

This Sept we'll be driving down from Nebr, and we'll only be able to make it to the western suburbs of St Louis the 1st night. We're planning on driving about 12 hrs the next day, if not longer, and are concerned about that long stretch of construction slowing us down. But we'll be watching the speed. Thanks!

Do you suggest the bypass for Atlanta, or staying on I-75?

Thanks again for all the great info.

Not the OP but I now avoid the bypass and drive the HOV lane. Just pay careful attention so you don't accidently exit the freeway while on the HOV.

Here's a question for the Atlanta peeps here....

I heard something from a friend of mine awhile ago about how they now needed to pay to use the HOV lanes?? What's up with that? and for us out-of-state people driving thru town, how confusing or how much trouble is it likely to cause us?

A small portion of I-85 in Gwinnett county is now a HOT lane (high occupancy toll). You have to have a special device on your windshield and you have to "set it" via the internet in advance. It really should not impact your trip if you are not in Gwinnett county during rush hour. The other 98 percent of the entire HOV lane is the same as it has been for the last few years.

If you drive in it without the transponder, their multiple cameras and sensors will ID you and send you a ticket. BTW, it is also an extra 25 dollar fine if you cross over the solid white line in the HOT lane area.
