DW, DD and I will be staying in a studio in Aug for 9 days and we are looking for some easy meal alternatives. We though about bringing our George Foreman grille we got when DW's grandmother passed away in March. We have never used it. Has anyone ever brought one to cook with while staying at a DVC resort? If so, any good recipes? Any help is greatly appreciated!

They are great for grill cheese sandwiches. Chicken Breasts & pork chops (boneless). Try some seasoning packages.
Yummy.

July:idea:

Don't forget that every DVC also has outdoor barbeque grills for members to use while staying there. Makes for some nice family time by one of the quiet pools (at least at BCV and BWV).

I use mine everyday to fix myself and the kids hot sandwiches for lunch. It makes a killer grilled cheese with no mess and is quick!

We considered that too. Only we are going in August, we do not mind going at that time with it being so hot, but the thought of being near a hot grill for a while in August had us wondering. Also we do not know the "rules" for using one of the grills, how do you go about cleaning up after, what to do with the hot coals, just leave them? I guess if we had more info on that too it would help.

A George Foreman grill is electric, so no coals. You would NOT be able to use a charcoal grill on any of the decks because of fire saftey laws.

All of the DVC resorts have charcoal grills near the quiet pools. I know OKW and BWV do, so I suppose the others do as well.

You know, we spend a fair amountof time at the quiet pools, and I see very few people using the grills there. Only once did we see a couple using it at OKW. And you know, I really never heard anything about how you clean it up or anthing either. Does each person who uses it do that, or does a CM do it at the end of the day when they close the pool? Do you bring your own charcoal? Probably be interesting to find out.

As far as the George Foreman grill, I think it would probably be a great thing to have for grilled cheese, grilled chicken breast etc. Can you do burgers in it?? Maybe you should "play" with it a few times before you go, to see what works and what doesn't. I could see grilling a chicken breast to add to a salad, or making a grilled chicken breast sandwich and having it with chips or fruit...quick and easy!!!!! Plus, soemthing like that probably increases your ability to coo in the studio, since you don't have a full sized kitchen and there's only so many microwave type meals one can eat before mac & cheese gets boring!!! Supposedly those clean up really easily as well.

Quick and easy clean up . Let it cool and wipe it with a damp paper towel, dump greese once it hardens into paper towels in the trash can. I use it for burgers, bonelss chicke breasts, bonelss pork chops an dI've even cooked a pork tenderloin roast on it Just kept turning it about every ten muinutes. Makes great grilled cheese and you can make the paninni sandwiches with them as well. With a cold salad or pasta salad you have a whole meal.

I've never had the inclination to grill while at WDW...it's the one form of cooking I'll take time to do at home. Maybe if we were pool people that would be different, but I never liked the 'open' grills...guess I'm a weber snob. :cool2:

Courtesy would dictate to me that you clean your own mess, or in this case, brush the grill top and empty your ashes. I'm sure a CM gets stuck with the job if someone's rude enough to leave a mess, but I'd imagine most people do the right thing.

I'd bet you have to provide your own charcoal...and if I remember, they sell that kingsford type junk (maybe it's the matchlight?) in the resort stores.

I clean my foreman grill while its hot. Easiest method is to spray it with pam (while hot) then wipe off with a paper towel...much quicker than letting it cool.

Thanks for all the ideas and info, sounds like using the outdoor grills would be too much work for vacation, especially in the August heat. Gonna give the Foreman grill a shot at home to see how it is, kinda looking forward to grilled cheese.

The only thing I would add, is that most everything you can do on a GF grill, you can also do either on top of the stove or in the oven under the broiler. I would definitely prefer that to trucking along something big and heavy in my luggage.

I agree....probably why we didn't use ours when we lugged it along the one time. The OP's going to be in a studio though. :cool2:

OOPS! I missed that it was a studio stay. OOOO, not sure I would do 9 days in a studio! In that case though, I think the GF grill would be a great addition.

two things I wouldn't do in public.....

1 - Grill in an open grill
2 - Eat a lobster

Love to do both, neither are a pretty site for me though!
