George Bush

Unfortunately, they've just served to make me more adamant in my opposition to their arguments and candidate.

Yes, that is the bottom line. Many of them seem to be here for the sole purpose of recruiting more support, yet I don't think they quite understand that their efforts are having the opposite effect.

Ahh, I did say I was leaving. And I am. Enough for one week. I can only hope I come back on Monday to a more tolerant crowd.

I can appreciate your standing behind the President, in your heart you believe him to be the best man for the job. What disturbs me about the political "discussion" here on the DIS is instead of being a place for open minded, spirited discussion on issues, it has become a Kerry/Democrat hating site where everyone wants just to talk about how awful they are.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

That's an interesting comment but just not at all accurate. There are just as many Bush/Rep haters here. Just yesterday we were told that to believe Kerry's use of Cheney's dd in the debate was inappropriate made us either Kerry haters or homophobes. I don't doubt you believe there is more nastiness directed against your cause but for those in the other camp, we believe there is more against us. Probably we can conclude it is ugly out there on both sides.

Yes, I've seen alot of negative posts about Bush too...and I think way more derogatory name calling about him too. (and also calling people that supported him names...but I know that went both ways. Politics can be ugly. And once my mind is made up there isn't too much that will sway it.

c'mon now, that's not what i said at all!

i really don't want this thread to devolve. that was not my intention when i started it.

I'd agree that there really isn't any reasoned discussion of political points of view on here lately.

But just to be clear, that is certainly not the exclusive province of Bush supporters. I know, I know -- there are plenty of Bush supporters who engage in such tactics.

But I assure you there are plenty of Kerry supporters who are equally angry, equally interested in shouting down one's opinion and equally convinced that Sen. Kerry is infallible.

One tends to highlight the transgressions of those who you oppose more than those who join you in support. I'm not trying to get into an argument of who's worse. The point is it's going on from both sides more and more. And frankly, it makes these boards a much less interesting place.

I love politics and enjoy a good debate but even I have stopped replying to these political threads, for the most part. I still read a few, only a few, and I am consistently disappointed at the debate skills shown on this board.
At this point, all the back and forth just seems silly. I get embarrassed for some people who respond to these threads. Their incomplete, incomprehensible posts cannot do anything to help their cause and it makes them seem a fool. They just don't seem to get it, they keep on posting their obnoxious diatribes and people keep on responding. It is a neverending cycle.

I am voting for Bush because in my view, he is by far the best choice. However, I try to keep in mind that others may feel differently from me, so, I try to treat them with respect. It is not always easy and I am sure I have not always been able to live up to that goal.
How do we expect to get along in the world if we can't even talk rationally and coherently about what we believe.
Debate is great, but for goodness sake, try to have at least some basis for an argument before you ramble on about how bad the other guy is or how good your guy is. Calling other people stupid etc. just shows your own lack of debating skill.

I also agree 100 percent with this. ::yes::

I honestly have not seen the constant bashing, namecalling, picture posting by the left here on the DIS boards.

To be fair, I'm not and never have been an avid poster on the political threads. I got involved with one several weeks ago only to be told that my husband should quit his job, since I'm a Kerry supporter, he couldn't possibly be doing a good job of protecting our President. That sort of thing seems most prevalent to me -- this notion that if you support the other guy you are somehow less of an American.

But if y'all say that it works both ways, then I'll take your word for it. I'd like to see the political discussions actually BE discussions, and the rabid few who want to tear down their opponent through personal attack, find somewhere else to play.

And YES, this time I really am done. LOL. Seriously. I swear.

Ooops, I lied! Gotta come back and say GREAT POST, herc! :) Its nice seeing you here, btw, I've always enjoyed your posts. :)

I too was shocked to see George Bush and caitycaty in the same sentence :smooth:

Well, just to be fair and balanced, here's a GWB bash from a Bush supporter... he's spends too much money, is wrong on immigration, is wrong on steel tarriffs, is wrong on a gay marriage amendment.

I've had it with the political threads as well. I think a few got the better of me and I may have been unkind/disrespectful and that's not who I am at all. So if I offended anyone on either side I'm truely sorry.

So enough of that, what's everyone doing for the weekend? We're hoping to meet up with some friends tomorrow at a local zoo if the weather cooperates. Sunday will be a quiet/lazy day for us.

I would love to see nice, polite discussions on this board too but I've given up on that. What constantly amuses me are the challenges thrown out to explain WHY a certain candidate appeals. Sometimes a poster really seems to be interested in a candidate's ideas when they ask that but I think that it's usually done as a challenge and I hate challenges when discussing these things.

But hey it'll be over in a few weeks. Or maybe just beginning if some people are right but at least it'll be different.

Have a nice weekend snoopy.

You guys all make such excellent points and I completely agree :)

I just don't understand the point in all of the bashing. You can be as afraid as you want to if Sen. Kerry is elected. that's not my issue because believe me, I'm just as afraid of what will happen if Pres. Bush is re-elected. However, there's voicing your fears and there's being a condescending jerk about it. Lately, it's been more the latter than the former.

I have political discussions all of the time with friends and family that are completely on the other end of the spectrum than I am and it's never escalated to the demeaning attacks on people's intelligence that has happened here on pretty much every thread. I just don't understand the point of such nastiness. Are you trying to make me feel ashamed of why I am voting the way I am? Because it's not going to happen and you might as well save yourself from carpal tunnel because the nasty rhetoric isn't doing anything but rile up people off for the wrong reasons

DH and I are going to MGM tomorrow for part of the day, and then doing our grocery shopping. LOL

Sunday I will get my around the house chores done and then just veg out watching football.

Thank you snoopy, the feeling is mutual.
dmadman, I agree in the sense that no President is perfect. There is always something we would like done differently. Except maybe for Reagan, he was pretty much perfect
:D .
There are things I'd like to see Bush do differently, but they are minor in the large scheme of things.

cedmom, i don't think your posts have ever been offensive. :)

So enough of that, what's everyone doing for the weekend?

school work mostly. i have brunch plans with a student organization that i belong to on sunday.

Soccer, soccer, soccer, CCD. Maybe we'll take the kids to the drive-in, budle up in quilts, and sit outside watching Shark tales and Shrek2.

It goes both ways and it's certainly not one-sided. There have been plenty of nasty, hate-filled Bush bashing threads.

It goes in phases...sometimes more about Bush, then more about Kerry and then some days there's plenty about both.
