How many Genie + lightning lanes used

We were at Hollywood Studios today. We didn't use Genie+ because I had zero idea how to do it. Regretted not having it, we waited in such long lines.

To be fair, we arrived at 7:30 am (park opening at 8:30) and we got right in line for ROtR and we were just cruising through the line... until the ride broke down. We waited and waited and waited. By the time we got off of the ride, all the other lines had gotten really long already and we started off the day being tired of waiting in line. Usually we feel amazing after rope dropping a ride but it really sucked having it break down. Side note, can anyone believe how often that ride breaks down!?!

We had good results today at AK. Finished one ride got reservations for the next. Was very good for us

We used Genie+ today at Magic Kingdom and had an amazing time. We are not a rope drop family so we arrived at 9:20am and rode Pirates in a 5 minute stand by lane because we already had a LL for haunted mansion planned. After mansion we just kept using the tip board portion of the genie+. Using the tip board allowed us to scroll up and down to see which LL was available next and if we were close enough to use it without back tracking. We used 10 LL and paid for mine cart. We also rode 3 other rides as fillers, while waiting 5-10 mins for the next LL. We also ate at Crystal Palace for lunch. We let the park at 5pm because we felt we had accomplished most everything we wanted to do.

You left out zero. The only park I would consider it at is DHS. we went this am and got a later start than optimal. We arrived about 8:40 so sacrificed Rise. We’ve both been on it previously. Walked on RNR, 15m TOT and TS, 10m ST and done.

Didn’t wait for Smuggler’s cause don’t like it very much. We do miss FP but really don’t want to hand the hypocritical mouse that virtue signals equity while creating a caste system in their parks More money.

I didn't leave it out, I wanted data for people that had purchased Disney Genie.

I like this scenario, I also think magic kingdom is a park that makes the most sense for Genie+ based on the sheer number of attractions.

This is where I see myself using it. We have a infant coming with us and I think it will help manage line time.

Used it for LL 8 times plus. 7D and SM yesterday.
Worked perfect for us…no waits with the LL.
I think it’ll all level out to be near what h th e FP system used to be….the question about why force people to pay is a different ideological question for sure. But our 1 day experience is thst the system worked.

Ah… Gotcha. One thing I noticed in Genie light. It gives you a ridiculous ride order and hours between picks in the “tips” section. No doubt to encourage more + purchases.

We used it on 7 or 8 rides. We did HS in the morning, and then hopped over to AK. AK we were able to get immediate return times and get on whatever we wanted - but it also wasn't actually necessary at the point either. Most lines were walk ons by that point anyway. HS was a lot harder. We couldn't get a slinky dog until 12ish (with choosing right at 7am) - when we saw an earlier time pop up we lost it because we had to cancel and then rebook, so we never got on that. We had early entry and rope dropped MMRR, then his Toy Story Mania and Alien Swirling Saucers are walk ons by 9am and then RRC with maybe a 10 minute wait. Ended up picking up a ToT for 9:30ish when we lost SD. By the time we were able to use that, many return times were into the afternoon, making it pretty much useless for us us unless we used it for something unnecessary like the Frozen show or Beauty and the Beast. The only other ride at HS we ended up using for was Star Tours because that and Alien Swirling Saucers were the only ones you could get close return times for. I don't think we'll be using it again unless we go to MK.

It’s going to be interesting to watch during busy weeks. There are going to be a lot of PO’ed guests if they purchase G+ and can’t get any useful return times. It’s one thing to complain about the lack of FP+ availability when it was free. It’s quite another to charge guests for something and have it not prove to be useful. $16/pp for Frozen or Beauty shows. No thank you. I foresee people demanding refunds (and yes I know it says no refunds but…)

Im trying to figure this out without being there - we go in mid December. So…may I ask, when you say you were using Genie+ is that the one that’s $15 pp?

Thanks
Dee

Good thread, just what I want to see. I would ask if folks comment answer .... if you were an FP+ user, how many did you usually roll after your 3 advance? And was this easier, harder, less flexible etc as a comparison.

I head in 2 weeks with my son who is disabled and FP+ was our lifesaver each day. We almost never rode SB if there was a FP+ lane. I could roll that thing an easy 10 times after we used our first three. Had it to a science. Thinking $15 a day ... I'd have to be able to pull at least 7-8 to feel I "broke even".

Yesterday- we had picked AK as our 1st park. Since it was the debut of Genie plus and our last day at Disney- we decided to try it. I have mixed feelings about it. We park hopped to MK that afternoon ~3 pm.

Pros:
-Ability to walk on to rides with 50 minute wait times posted (Na’vi River & Peter Pan)
-Cut wait times for some other rides, too- Pirates of the Caribbean & Big Thunder & Buzz Lightyear
-You can book a ride as long as you have made it inside the LL que (2 scans for some rides)
-As long as availability is there- you can use it at all 4 parks, albeit 1 at a time though.

Cons:
-It added over $60 for my family of 4.
-No more pre-planning. It honestly makes dining reservations harder, imo.
-Dirty looks from the standby que because many feel it’s not fair (I understand that perspective 100% seeing as how FP used to be free for all).
-Crowd levels were low yesterday. Wasn’t really needed for AK. It’s hard to imagine how it would work on higher crowd days, but my hypothesis is not well.

Those are just my fresh thoughts. Idk if I’d do it again. *Maybe* on a MK or HS day. Definitely not every day of every trip. We got 9 FP yesterday. While that’s a great number, some were unnecessary. As I said, mixed feelings about the whole thing.

I am an AP holder and when I could plan my fast passes we typically would do the 2 or 3 rides and head back to the resort for drinks or pool time. Once a year or so we would have a challenge to see how many we could get in a day. Most we ever attained was 14. Again we aren’t rope drop people so I’m sure you can get more and do more as you learn the system. Have a great trip.
