Genie+, Park Hopping, and Modifying

Yes I was able to book park opening in every park. GOTG, Slinky, Frozen, jungle cruise, and safari. My husband and I both tried booking at the same time and it was a game to see who could get it.

This has not been my experience when trying to book early G+, especially not for rides like Slinky or JC, even with modifying.


We did get pretty early BG's though. Not quite park opening, but lower than BG 20.

After our first G+, though, most days I was able to book follow up passes that were under an hour out. late morning was when we got good G+ with less-than-an-hour between pass times, at least with a little modifying. Modifying though is not ideal, we had to use our phone quite a bit.

It might have been the time of the year. We went around Halloween the crowds were 6-7. Or it might have been that we set our clocks every night to make sure they were correct and then pulled down at 6:59 and picked. My husband was on Wifi and I was on Disney internet at ALK. We had a great time but mornings were stressful. Even though we got Frozen it was down and we ended up loosing or Genie + and having the 2 hour time reset when they canceled it. The CM gave us an extra pass for the trouble. This was in 22 before Modifying was an option.

Either it was a ride with 2 tap points, in which case you have to pass the 2nd tap to book again, or...

There were times when I was not immediately able to book our next pass, even after tapping the 2nd tap, and even though it was our most recently booked pass. (though those are 2 likely reasons why someone could not book their next pass.)

In some cases though there was a definite delay that was about a minute long before MDE said we were eligible.

I also experienced MDE glitches and phone reception problems. Like on BTMRR, by the time you pass the 2nd tap, you are in the belly of the queue. Being on your phone while walking down the ramp is less than ideal, and the phone reception is less than optimal. Other times MDE froze on me or otherwise glitched.

It was not letting us immediately book a new LL after tapping in. It was sometimes really random seeming with whether the 2 hour rule was enforced or not. But, we would always try to book as soon as tapping in and either the app will let you or it won't. You have to be prepared for the possibility that you won't be able to book ASAP. And, you also don't get to choose the return time so if an LL pops up for 1:30pm- that's it. Take it or leave it. You can try again later to modify but it's luck of the draw what's available when.

I have read that Disney suspends the new Genie+ reservations once you tap in if they parks are really busy and Genie + might crash. They keep everyone to a 2 hour rule. I was only there on 6-7 crowd days and did not run into that issue. How busy was the park when you were there?

I have never heard of that. I know that if there is a 2nd tap point you cannot book until after you tap the second time.

We haven’t been able to rebook after tapping into our lightening lane rides. We’ve had to wait for the 120 mins to expire. I’ve tried twice today without success. We are having to wait 120 mins each time.

No, it was the first one that I had booked at 7am for 12.15 that we had double tapped into. By that time I’d booked a second one at 11am for 2pm. Is that why I couldn’t book another? Because I already had one lined up for the afternoon? We’ve got four stacked for tonight in quick succession and would like to book some before our next booking window at 9pm if possible. MK is open until 1am tonight so we’d like to ride as much as we can (children’s tiredness / grumpiness permitting) as it’s the only day we intend to buy Genie +.

Nothing has changed. OP wasn’t tapping into their most recently booked LL therefore the 120 min click continued.

That explains it. You have to use your most recently booked LL. Since you waited two hours after booking the 12:15 one, it will not allow you to book another after you scan in unless it was your most recently booked LL.
