Does anyone know what types of genetically produced plants they sale at the Soarin' *Check-in* counter? I picked one up in January and was wondering what other types they have. I already have a Spider Plant. TIA! :flower1:

Never heard of this or noticed anything like it last May. How much are the plants and how well do they travel?

I think the plants were $9-$12 each. It depends on which type of plant you buy. Each plant comes in a glass container about 4-5 in high. It is called Mickey's Mini Gardens. On the box it comes in is Mickey, Goofy, and Donald dressed up like Robin Hood with beanstalks in the background. The plants travel very easily and it probably would take a lot of force to break the glsss container. Just be careful not to break the seal on the lid! You can find these by the Soarin' entrance at the *check-in* counter.

The only plants that I remember them having were a Vanilla Bean plant and the plant that I got, a Spider Plant. I think they might of had a Strawberry plant, but I'm not sure.

What's so special about the plants that they sell? We're all 'genetically produced', so I was wondering what the gimmick is? Are they new hybrid species or something? I'd love a different type of spider plant!

If they're anything like the ones I saw at Mission Space, they're grown in a tube w/ no dirt. It's kinda tricky to explain. I don't think that there's really anything "different" about them as far as like species or anything. I think it's more or less a clone or something :confused3 Sorry I'm not much help lol. I'm sure the OP can describe them better :)

On the 'Behind the Seeds' Tour our guide told us that these plants are indeed clones. She explained a little about the details behind them, but we had some noisy kids in the tour group, so I missed some of it and wouldn't want to give out incorrect info.

From what the back of the box says:

"This test tube contains a living plant that was not grown from seed, but through regeneration of cells from a parent plant. Each cell contains all of the genetic information needed to regenerate or grow an entire plant. This tool of biotechnology is being used to enhance food quality, agricultural productivity, and environmental protection."

So I guess you could say it is a clone of its parent. I would of posted a picture of the plant in the tube, but I have already taken it out and repotted it. The plant in the tube has no dirt, but in its place there is a nutritious gel that supplies all of the necessary nutrients needed to grow the plant. Once the gel starts to crack and turn yellowish, it is time to repott the plant. I hope this helps. :goodvibes
