General Star Wars Discussion

"A good question, for another time."

Aka, Star Wars's modus operandi. :D

The thing is, that groundwork has been around for a long, long time. The movies though didn't set it up nor explain it. All it needed were a couple of lines from Snoke or someone about "Project Necromancer" or something in VII or VIII. This is why I am a proponent of new Special Editions for all of the films. Just adding a tiny bit of gap-filler would smooth things out.

Now, personally, it doesn't bother me that much when Star Wars doesn't make sense - it never really has. Still, it would go a long way to quelling a lot of the complaints.

Also his mom was an actual princess. I'm betting that house was well-stocked with quality hair care products.
Yes to the home he grew up in being well stocked with hair care products, but I think you have the wrong parent based on the fact that of all the insults, the only one Han reacted to and denied was scruffy-looking. Fan theory based on nothing more than pure speculation (and the OT is from the 1970s and 1980s) Han has a hair care routine, we just never saw it.

Look, we all know the master of hair-care products is Uncle Chewie - He's got the good stuff!

It's wild to me that Disney leans into something Lucas tried to ensure was never seen again.

Well, every dog has its day. Honestly, it's not like there weren't some good ideas in the special, it's just the overall production that is pretty bad. I don't have a problem with taking those ideas and polishing them up.

Yeah, I've always had the impression that SW fans like the idea of Life Day, just not the program it debuted in.

I think part of it is that the Holiday Special has gained this cult following over the years because for decades it was so difficult to find and you had to have either been lucky enough to watch it first run or know someone who could get you access. To illustrate this with a few stories: I was doing an internship at the Paley Center for Media when YouTube existed, but is not nearly what it is today. I had the opportunity to watch the Holiday Special and did, because I didn't know if I'd get the chance again. A few years later, Paley Center let people vote on some of their holiday programing, and the Holiday Special won in a landslide.

I agree. The original idea for the special wasn't awful. The one or two sentence pitch/plot summary sounds like a decent idea. The execution went horribly horribly wrong. A fantastic documentary on the topic is Disturbance in the Force. It will answer most of the common questions about the Holiday Special.
