General Star Wars Discussion

Well, I was fighting it, but I made it through. Wow! The time skips are a little jarring, but they are really delivering. I think I liked this arc better than the first.

Syril and Dedra once agian steal the show. Honestly, I think Syril is going to surprise us and repudiate the Epire. While he is working with ISB now, he is proud of his work in "stopping terrorists" - it's just that that's not what they are doing. That's why he can't know the truth. Dedra doesn't care - it's going to lead to something.

The tension in the scene where Kleya is trying to get the device out of that antique, with Krennic right there was so well done. It's interesting to see all these fake celebrations for a practically useless senate. It had never ocurred to me that some, like the Ghormans, believe that the Emporer doesn't know what is being done in his name. They are actually pro-Empire. and they believe that a shadow government has subverted it's good intentions. That's sort of...mind blowing. I've got news for them....

Syril's a true believer. I don't think he'll care if Ghorman is ripped apart. It's all about what's good for the Empire and he'll swallow the Ghormans are a threat propaganda like everyone else. He's just happy he gets to play ISB spy. The Krennic/Mon back and forth was spectacular. There was as much tension in that scene with Kleya as the raid you knew was doomed to have something go wrong. The recast of Bail Organa was really well done. Jimmy Smits couldn't make the scheduling work and Benjamin Bratt filled in nicely.

So, see, Syril believes in justice. He wanted to catch Andor because he believed him to be a murderer - and he's not actually wrong. Right now he strongly believes that the Empire cares about justice - he believes that the laws are good and just and that he is stopping terrorists. Some things said at that meeting definitely got to him. Dedra's boss knows that he could potentially become an issue. Now, I don't know if he has the wherewithal to actually follow-through with it, but I think they are setting him up to.

It's either that, or he kills his mother, starts dressing up like her and luring drifters into his murder den. He could really go either way. 🤣

This show just keeps getting better and better each week. I just keep getting blown away by the quality of the writing/acting and cinematography all of the time and I’m so sad it’s almost over because this is exactly the kind of Star Wars I like.

Not very keen on the recast just because it took me out for a moment but I guess outside interferences can’t be helped. Also pouring one out for my favourite space lesbians after ep 6 😔 but damn, Varada Sethu and Faye Marsay were incredible throughout and I can’t wait to see where this lose takes Vel going forward.

It feels like we might be seeing the cracks in Syril maybe defecting for real after that last episode but a part of me also feels like something else might happen on Ghorman in the next arc that leads to Syril being caught up in something for real with the Ghroman rebellion and killed and that leading to Deedra spiralling or maybe she has to give the order to have him killed at some point? Idk I’m just throwing stuff out because of that scene of her pulling at her collar having a panic attack in one of the trailers.

But what I really liked most about this last arc especially was seeing just what “being a rebel” and being part of the rebellion in their own ways does to someone’s psyche and how the characters are coping with “what has to be done” in their individual ways. I think it’s a very psychologically interesting character study for sure.

Also really liked seeing the seeds of Saw’s growing mistrust being weaved in and it being revealed his deteriorating psyche is due to his “gas use” that leads us to his character in Rogue One. Man, I love this show so much with how detailed it is. I think Bix is very much on a dangerous path now and whatever ends up happening with her character is going to have a major impact on Cassian.

If you haven't watch them yet, there are some great background videos on YouTube on the Star Wars channel called Andor Declassified. The amount of work they put into this show is tremendous. Cool tidbits like the language of Ghorman is based on French but is completely made up.

Yeah, Bix may be abusing pain killers, but Saw is straight huffing rocket fuel! I always knew that mask wasn't for oxygen.

Man Star Wars just has a thing for killing off any and all love interest at some point. Padme, Han, Ben Solo, Cinta, Bix soon to come… etc. War is unforgiving

Like I said before, when you watch Rogue One and Cassian says "you think you're the only one who's lost everything" to Jyn, it's going to hit really hard when you realize it's not just Bix but Marva and Brasso that he lost to the Empire/Rebellion.

it is hard watching this show knowing that most of the characters will dying sooner than later, If she stays there to continue to help the rebels, I dont think Vel will make it out of Ghorman

Would make sense considering that Ghorman is what motivates Mon to speak out against Palpatine and then have to flee Coruscant. Losing Vel there would make the massacre hit even harder for her.

I had the opportunity to go to an online Q&A session with Genevieve O’Reilly and one of the producers of Andor tonight and gosh it was just so interesting hearing about all of the work, thought and consideration that goes into making this show. Genevieve was an absolute delight and talked at length about Mon and working with Tony to make Mon a more established and well rounded character.

I was geeking out the whole time she was talking about Mon’s “dance scene” at the end of episode 3 and the months of work that went into choreographing it and thinking about Chandrilian culture and how they wanted to focus in on the shapes of the dance being circular. It’s a shame it was only an hour because I could have listened to them talk all night about the show and the process of making it.

Someone asked about that scene with Bix in episode 3 and how intense it was given that Star Wars has a younger audience and they basically said that was the point of it and that’s what Tony wanted and it’s given people the chance to talk about the reality of it in those situations. And then they basically said that the season is going to get darker so I’m excited to see where it goes. I’m also wondering if Mon is going to be in the Mando & Grogu because she said she couldn’t talk about what’s next for the character.

It will be interesting to see who outside of those who have been featured in other stories survive the series.

so far all I can count on from seeing them in Rogue 1 are Cassian...Mon.... and Saw from the rebellion.... and then Krennec of course from the empire

Edited to add Melshi surviving as a rebel after LeiaOrgana pointed out my oversight

I would like to see Bix heal from getting her revenge on the good Dr Gorsh that if she has to die, she goes down fighting with honor and not as a drugged out shell

Yeah that’s where I’m at on survival as well. It’s Luthen, Syril, Dedra, Kleya whose conclusions I am most interested in. Luthen showing so much desperation after just a few years and Kleya snapping him back into place is a great dynamic when she’s the one gathering the most information to share with him.

Bix has been put through the ringer, her vengeance was sweet

Star Wars social media put together an hour of Mon Mothma dancing to Niamos!

or really an hour of watching a character go through an expressive mental breakdown in the name of the rebellion

Did O'Reilly mention how many takes she had to do for the dance scene? She must have been exhausted!
