General Star Wars Discussion

Andor is not kiddie Star Wars, there is plenty of content for all... the Young Jedi... Skeleton Crew... let us have some dark adult Andor

I thought the assault scene was intense but it did not go to far. you cannot be ok with person after person getting shot, from the very first episode we have watched people over and over getting killed. We have watched scores of people at this point get killed in various ways... murdered shot in the face........ blown up.... that is ok, but at gunpoint Bix said he tried to rape me... and THAT is too much?

Rape is a reality of war, I thought it was well done and I was glad she beat the heck out of him. Poor Brasso :(
on a different note....

the fancy TIE stealing reminded me of Ezra doing something very similar

This is going to be a intense season. Loved it.

So, I have said that they didn't go too far, just right up to the line. A little "dark and gritty" is okay in Star Wars, however most of the violence in Star Wars is pretty "cartoony" - it's what Stan Lee used to call "Action" when super-heroes were criticized as being too violent. It's sort of a fine distinction, but it's one that I am sensitive to. It's all about tone and context. I get what they are trying to do - and you're right, it's a reality of war - but "reality" has very little to do with Star Wars.

The fact is, the one thing you can do to a kid's franchise is try to make it more adult - it backfires every time. Star Wars has always had a few layers though - I mean, Empire was criticized for being too dark back when it came out, and Jedi corrected for that. So, certainly there is room for this, but I still don't encourage them to go further. This can be the "Temple of Doom" of Star Wars - the most mildly inappropriate and best one! 😁 I'm fine with that.

I am way too old to be watching Young Jedi Adventures, but I find it oddly fascinating. It doesn't get much attention, which is actually kind of a good thing based on who/what some of the characters are.

I agree with you. I think the Star Wars universe is big enough to include silly fun adventure stories more appropriate for little kids/kids but also more mature stories better suited to teens/adults.

Except that doesn't seem to be the case here. Critics loved it as did many Star Wars fans.

my husband really enjoyed it, I did not watch it

Again, I haven't said that they have done that...yet. They have gone right up to the line, not over it. But, sometimes fans clamor for that "Hard R" adaptation, and that is where they usually lose the entire core of what a thing is. I still think they could have pulled off the intent while pulling back on it just a little.

I don't think the episode went too far, agree w Brian, just right up to that point. Rebels was one of the first times we really starting seeing a lot more oppression of regular people, but in animated form, was not as hard to watch. Andor is showing us that reality. I absolutely do not want a hard-R Star Wars anything. I was very glad those 2 GoT guys' project got axed, and I hope it stays that way.

On another note, seeing Revenge of the Sith on screen was incredible. I got to see it at midnight, 20 years ago, when we still lived in Baton Rouge, DD was only 10 months old, and DH kept here that night, so I could go see the premier at midnight. He'd gone to AOTC at midnight, while I missed out on that one. Anyway, RotS is not only DD's favorite SW movie, but also her favorite movie, so it was great experiencing it with her. I hadn't watched it all in a while, and had forgotten a lot of dialogue, especially at the beginning.
Kinda weird to watch and enjoy this movie, that is setting up this Empire that we're watching destroy everyone and everything in Andor.

RotS is great! I actually saw it while I was travelling in LA, at the Irvine Spectrum. We were kind of late, so we where very close to the front, but it was such a big, nice theater - better than what we had around here at the time. It was immersive! It was also packed, which I was happy about because when I went to see AotC it was actually kind dead. I think it was just that theater though - which was the nicest we had in town, but the location was weird. Anyway, the prequels are always good stuff, and I still think of them as peak Star Wars.

I am crushed. Pour one out for Brasso, more worried about other people than himself right until the very end.

I am very, very interested in how Mon Mothma ends up fleeing Coruscant and with the Rebellion. I would not be surprised if her daughter turns her in. She is a Chandrilan tradwife now and I can see her becoming radicalized by the Empire.

Get ready - I have a feeling we're gonna lose a lot more before this thing is over!

Yes, I think there's an eventuality that we need to get ready for around why Cassian tells Jyn Erso that "you think you're the only one that has lost everything". I think the only one left standing will be Dedra...who is assigned to work on the Death Star.

Oh yeah, I expect everyone to die just like in Rogue One... but I won't be as sad for anyone as much as I was for Brasso. :D

Dedra working on the Death Star would be fitting. I wonder what happens to Syril... I can see him just slogging away for the Empire until it falls.

the scenes with her and Vel are great....
in season 1 Vel and Mon (two forward thinking women of the resistance) looking on in horror as Lida explores the Chandrilian traditional beliefs with her friends

Then this season at the wedding ...the juxtaposition of Vel looking on sadly with Lida's ecstatic friends.

I have really enjoyed how they contrast them....

I have a feeling that once Luthien falls, is when Mon flees.....

I misunderstood what you meant. Thank you for that much needed clarification. In that case, I pretty much agree you. Star Wars can work well at a PG-13/TV-14 level. It can go a little darker/more mature than the OT, but not too much. I can't picture Hard R Stars Wars working well at all.
