If you buy an AP there may or may not be discounts available at select Disney hotels depending on when you go...but owning an AP is not a guarantee of such a discount.

Is the above statement correct?

But you don't have to own an AP to book the discount. You have to show an activated AP when you check in. I was lucky enough to get an AP rate at the Beach Club for July - saved me enough over the AAA rates I had that it more than paid for an AP! So you can wait to book a discounted room, then buy the AP (unless you are planning to go to the parks a lot in a year anyway!)

Good advise Georgina, you can also get a seasonal pass and get the same discount. That's what we have and I love it because I can go into the parks when is less crowded and enjoy the same perks. As a floridian, I don't want to be in the park when their are long lines.
