Gender Rolls?

Blue is not always for boys but pink for the most part is for only girls.

But you know what REALLY grinds my gears? I was out per my 5yr old Sons request, looking for frozen theme birthday party decorations and decided to check in the clothing section for a frozen themed outfit for him for the party. They had NOTHING! Not Sven, not Olaf, not Christoph, not even the snow monster! Which are ALL perfect for boys. And we ALL know our boys love frozen just as much as ANY girl out there.

They have teenage Mutton Ninja turtles for girls, Sponge Bob for girls, Disney Cars and hot wheels for girls! Firefighters, Airplanes, Pirates, superman, Spider-Man, batman, avengers, minions, sculls, Everything geared more towards a boy they also have in the girls section because millions of moms have already battled Disney and other companies for gender separation. Yet half of what I just listed up there is NOWHERE NEAR the boys section.

Why can't a boy have:

Frozen (Sven, Christoph, Olaf, snow monster)

Beauty and the beast- (candle man, clocks worth, Beast)

Tangled- (Iguana, turtle, the thief guy)

Cinderella- (mice, cat)

Little mermaid- (flounder, lobster, price Eric and his dog, her father!)

Even Lelo and Stitch!!!!!!

All of the fricken Disney movies (and others) have at least a few things that can be used on boys clothing!

SO STOP BEING SEXIST and start thinking that not only girls watch Disney movies and love them! And START BEING FAIR!!!!!

My son loves frozen! But around me they do have Olaf, Sven, and christof gear. But his favorite character is of course Elsa so he's like y do they have to make the Elsa shirts so girly! LoL! But yeah I know what u mean girls get everything!!! They are definitely easier to shop for!

The Disney Store online also has a few Frozen shirts for boys. I think the problem is more that what they do have is selling out quickly. They definitely need to make more.

Gender ROLLS?

Are those blue rolls for boys and pink rolls for girls?

:rotfl:

I think you meant roles ;)

OP, you are being sexist yourself by listing only male character toys for boys. Why can't a boy play with a princess doll? They can wear pink shirts too.

I've seen Frozen t-shirts for both genders at Target. Several of the boys in my preschool class wear them. Olaf seems to be a popular choice. One boy had an Olaf Halloween shirt. Another wears a couple of different Olaf shirts to school.

Plenty of Frozen boy clothes around my home town. Maybe you need to look a little harder before you decide there are none and Disney is being unfair?

Perhaps they were sold out?

By the way, "pink" being just for girls is more of an American mindest. Other countries I have lived in boys had no issues wearing pink. In Korea, most of the boys traditional first birthday hanbok included pink pants. Our Korean nanny bought my son's first birthday hanbok and I have photos of him in it, with the pink pants! LoL.

That "candle man" is Lumière. And why are all of YOUR suggestions just as sexist as you're claiming Disney to be? I have a 2 year old little boy and he has a ton of baby dolls and other "girl" toys. Disney makes plenty of Frozen shirts with male characters on them, you just have to be willing to look.

Yep. Kids like what they like. Adults are the ones who impose labels like "boy things" and "girl things." My daughter has a number of "boy" clothing items and toys.

I saw boy Frozen stuff at Target. Even found Olaf pajamas.

Maybe it is getting snatched up?

But to answer your question--yes, they do exist. We even got a Kristoff "barbie" doll.

Went to Target the weekend before last with my kids on Saturday. Went back Sunday morning to pick up an item we saw and they has a display of Anna, Elsa, and Kristoff. Went back last Saturday--only Anna was left.

So I don't think it isn't that they don't make "boy" items. May be like anything else--they just may be going fast.

I saw a number of shirts as well that seemed "boy" to me.

Interesting thread. I was just talking to my 10 y/o daughter yesterday about how all the boys in her class hate Frozen. As with everything there are bound to be exceptions, but I'm pretty sure most boys don't like Frozen to the extent it would make sense to produce and market Frozen party supplies to them. Considering most of the girls in her class now dislike Frozen (I'm convinced they secretly like it but it's not "cool" to say so anymore), I'm not surprised at how hard it is to find items like this for boys.

Heck, I have a REALLY hard time finding Super Mario gifts/clothes etc. for said daughter since she is a huge fan. Like come on, you can't find Peach or Rosalina girl clothes through they would look amazing and most stores have the boy equivalent.

I agree with the OP completely. My little man loves princesses since they are so pretty and nice! He likes watching Sophia, loves Doc McStuffins, love Rapunzel, Belle, Sleeping Beauty and one of first favs was Cinderella. Not to mention his HUGE crush on Minnie Mouse! So why can't he get a shirt that has a princess or two on it?

Because Disney only makes girly Princess shirts! Even ones in neutral colors (purple, green, yellow) still have glitter and ruffles. They don't make things that say stuff like "I'm waiting to become Cinderella's Prince." I have seen shirts saying "Waiting for my Prince to come" and the like.

All of this is stupid and slightly sexist. Yes, that may be overstating it, but it's so hard to find good boy things. Now, while my boy may like cars to play with vs dolls, it's still not right that the only possible thing for him to get is a car. He loves helping cooking, but it's hard to find play kitchens that aren't pink. He loves Doc's doctor stuff, but that stuff is all super glittery (yes, her stuff is pink, but it would help to tone it down for play items).

I could get him some Minnie things, but nearly all her stuff is pink and girlie looking with girlie logos.

I am all about girl stuff. I love the options that are out there, and how empowered girls are, and the awesome stuff there is for us. But having a little boy has made me realize how much the pendulum has swung back for boys and how much girl culture has gone princessy. Is that good or bad? I don't know. But I would love more options for my little man than pirate or cowboy. He should be able to be a prince (how much Prince James merch is out there? None. Because Prince James and Princess Amber and Sophia are almost always on the same girl shirt). Or Deputy Peck or Toby (although I don't know if I want him to be like Toby) Or have Prince Philip/Finn Rider/the Beast on his shirts. Or even the boy Fairy from Tinkerbelle

There should be so much more out there. And my boy also loves pink, but I think it's because he associates that with me. I wear pink robes, and he thinks of me when sees characters like Piglet. I've had him run pass Pooh and Tigger to just get to Piglet because Piglet is pink, like my robe!

Disney, just make some friggin' boy things, please!!

For Christmas we bought our 3 year old boy this 3 pack from Frozen, they're little Anna, Elsa and Olaf dolls. He loves Frozen, who cares! He can play with what he wants. It sucks that it's like that in the stores....hopefully you'll find something!

I have guests from out of state in my home today.

The 12 year old BOY showed up wearing a BOYS Frozen shirt.

I think the bottom line of why folks aren't seeing PRINCESS items on "boy colored" clothing is because Disney also needs to think of their bottom line.

Let them know that shoppers want these items and maybe they will consider it.

They do make plain t-shirts. We don't like the extra fru fru because it adds too much cost to the item. So no, it doesn't all have fluffy stuff.

What I don't understand is why, if a characters known color palate and style is more girly, why a buyer expects it to be toned down aka CHANGED for their boy. Seems sexist to me.

You should let Disney know this. They may not realize. Just saying. ;)

I have a girl so I've never paid attention. Though I definitely saw Olaf pjs at Target yesterday and they were boys.

Argh, just looked at the Rebels tee, and only has the boy characters on it!! Ds likes all the characters, especially the amazing pilot of the Ghost: Hera! It's so irritating when boys get regulated to characters that "seem" boy like. Why can't he get the whole crew of the Ghost? Girls get the entire cast of Rebels - no prob. Boys only get the boys. What's up with that?

It's ok for girls to have girly versions of Olaf or Vader. Guys can't have manly versions of Princess Amber (Husband loves Amber!).
Girls get girly versions of Kristoff/Mickey/Winnie the Pooh
Guys can't get manly versions of Frozen girls/Cinderella/Minnie/etc.

No matter what the characters color scheme is, it's still sexist and wrong.

Maybe I should talk to Disney Merch. Anyone got contact #?

Have to agree with a couple of PP's, that your statement is just as sexist. Why should the boys only get the male characters from those films? My son doesn't want an Olaf doll - he wants Snow Glow Elsa (which is sold out everywhere around me, mind you). He loves Doc McStuffins and Princess Sofia, not Stuffy and Clover. The last time he picked out new cups for dinner time he picked out a pink cup and a Cars cup. :thumbsup2

I solve this by getting him things from "both sides of the aisle" and not paying attention to pink/blue branding. While we don't buy dresses or heeled shoes, that is more to do with me drawing a line about what I can deal with from my family than me being uncomfortable with my kid wanting those things. But even in those situations I don't way "dresses are for girls!", I just try to redirect to something equally as great but a bit more "easy to swallow" for our judgemental family (like switching out a Sofia dress for a Sofia doll or necklace that lights up instead). I hate that I have to compromise my kids spirit for anything, but unfortunately I have to protect him a little from what family or rude people in the world might say.
