Geico

we were with CNA for about 8 years. we have clean driving records. when they again jacked up our renewal rate, we checked out geico. we heard they were cheaper, but we were shocked at how much cheaper. our annual insurance went from $4400 to only $2400 for the year with Geico, for the exact same coverage.(they actually price it out in 2 separate policies of $1200.) needless to say, we switched right away. btw, we have clean driving records, only one speeding ticket in 20 years, no accidents. i guess laziness was our problem. i never understood why our rates were so high. if you have not compared, please call geico. for us it was well worth it!

I checked out AIG today and they were lower per month but require 90 bucks more upfront and you don't skip a payment, they have you pay a month in advance which we just can't afford, so it looks like Geico for us. We are still saving 25 bucks a month the first four months, and 55 after that so we are thrilled.

Many years ago I made periodic inquires of Geico and their rates were higher than what I was paying.

Several years ago I had Amica insurance but one year they would not renew because I owned a rental property even though that property had its own insurance policy with someone else. Also they would not insure some antique music boxes I owned.

Sometimes when you change auto insurance company only, your homeowners premium goes up because you no longer qualify for a discount for having one company insure both your car and home.

We switched to Geico a couple of years ago since Allstate raised theirs rates and it was just getting too much. Last year my husband had the first accident in his 14 years of driving - he was going straight through an intersection with a green light, and the other car made a left turn right in front of him. I used to be a senior claim rep for state farm and knew that my husband wasn't 100% at fault in the accident. The Geico claim rep for what ever reason just didn't want to hear it from us. He didn't care what the police report said, or what my husband (who is a NYPD sergeant) said, he believed the other party and said it was my husbands fault because he hit her in the rear. I cannot tell you how horrible the treatment we got from geico was. At the time I had a 3 week old baby and they refused to pay us for the damage to our car. It was awful. They finally paid us a fraction of what the actual damage to the car was. I know that each claim is different because it depends on the rep that you get, but even though they are less expensive, the one and only time we actually needed them they failed us big time. Hopefully we won't have to go through that again.

That is terrible.I'm confused though, even if you are at fault and you pay your deductable don't they have to fix the car?

Did your husband hit the brakes before the collision? Where do you think the vehicles would have contacted if your husband did not brake?

Was the other car also insured by Geico?

Is it too late to appeal using the courts?

We didn't go through Geico for our collision part - we went through the other person's carrier - Allstate. However, Geico made the decision that my husband and the other driver were equally at fault, so that in turn affected Allstate's decision on how and when to pay us for our damage. Sorry about the confusion. Had my husband not hit the brakes, he would have broadsided her vehicle and most likely he would have been injured. Geico failed to do alot of things on that claim - they should have done a scene investigation to prove that the other vehicle was in fact turning into my husbands lane, and my husband had no where else to go. Also, they discounted the police report because the other person "changed their mind" about what they said to the officer after everyone left the scene. I spoke to the claim rep's supervisor, but of course, he defended his employee, so that didn't help much. I would have gone to the NYS insurance dept on this claim, but at the time I had a newborn and that was the last thing I wanted to do. I just tell my husband to drive very carefully from now on to avoid things like this!!

After reading about Geico I decided to check their rates and see if they could save us money..... guess what, they were close to double of what I pay at State Farm !!! I was shocked, so had my DH call and get that same rate for the same coverage ! so, in case anyone was still looking for insurance... maybe check State Farm ! we've been happy with them, I only checked Geico to see if they were cheap enough to get us to change...they weren't :confused3

I had a similar experience about a year or two ago. I don't recall how much more than State Farm it was, but I remember being shocked at how much more expensive it was at GEICO compared to State Farm. I might do a little comparison shopping tomorrow, curiosity is getting to me ;)

I just compared my 6 mth coverage at State Farm ($1186) to Geico ($1965), don't think I'll be making the switch any time soon!
