Hello,

I'm planning a vacation to Disneyland in July and would love to stay at the Grand Californian. As it is very pricey, I thought it might be a bit less expensive for me to rent points for my stay. Does anyone know if this can be done and how many I might need for a 3 or 4 night stay? Many thanks!

For the Grand Californian, it's 30 points a night for Sun-Thurs, and 48 points a night for Friday and Saturday in July. Right now, the average rental rate is around $10 a point. I don't know what the cash rates are for the Grand Californian, but it sure doesn't seem like you'd be saving money.

DVC points are 'meant' to be used at the DVC resorts. We do have the option to book at other Disney resorts, but it's just sort of a perk, and usually requires an astronomical number of points. For comparison's sake, you could get a studio at VWL in July for 14 points a night.

For a renter, there's only a cost savings if you're staying at one of the DVC resorts.

It is much cheaper to get your reservation directly through Disney and not using points.
