Is it worth it, to pay for an upgrade from a standard room at the GCH? It's $1000 more, and I'm wondering if it's really WORTH it..... :confused3

From a standard room to what and for how many days? I would find $1k a lot to pay for any regular room upgrade at GCH, as all you'd be paying for is the view (unless you're talking about concierge). The views are not worth that much, IMO. I've had two premium view rooms that were nice but mostly had views of trees (theme park side) and a little bit of pool (pool side, but on the inside corner). We didn't really pay much attention to the view, to be honest. I do have to admit that I'm not a fan of being over a parking lot, but beyond that I'm not too particular at DLR.

If you are talking about upgrading to concierge, then it *might* be worth it. It depends on how much your family would use it. We use it a lot but you really don't get your money's worth out of it from a food standpoint; however, the convenience is great and it is really fun to have the lounge! My kids love it (and so do I).

I don't know - from a standard view to a room with a view. I forget what she said. Premium? No not concierge. And it's for 7 nights....

Just my opinion, but I would rather spend the money doing fun things in the park or treating my family to great meals. Unless you plan to spend a ton of time in your room looking out the windows, I don't think it is worth it to pay for the view.

wow.... can you adopt me and my family? hell, I could do a whole trip for a 1k... and you have that to blow on a upgrade? I would say save the grand and be super sweet at check in and hope for that free upgrade.... just saying that's alot of cash!

It's foreign to me as well. We have APs, and the incremental cost of an add-on (after the first trip, when we paid for the APs :scared:) trip for us often only about $500. I think that's how I managed to talk DH into 6 of those add-on trips!

I wish. I'm flying from Canada and it's not cheap, unfortunately.

I wouldn't have called it money to blow, just because we have the money to spend. That's why I was asking if it was WORTH it. :)

That's a great idea, and what we will most likely do. Thanks. :)

You can always try the $20 bill trick. :)

At check in, place a $20 bill on the counter (or discreetly show them) and ask if there are any upgrades available.

We did this twice in Vegas and it worked both times. Granted I KNOW it was Vegas, but still....worse they could say is no, right? :thumbsup2

We have a couple trips planned in the next six months and I fully plan on booking a standard room and trying the $20 bill trick.

Cast Members cannot accept tips (servers are exempt.) Disney actually hires mystery shoppers to make sure the CMs do as they are told. ( :) ) It won't help you get an upgrade, but you will get to keep your $20.

Good to know.

I asked for, and was thrilled to receive, an upgrade adventure tower room with a view over Downtown Disney and the park, this was in Feb, so it was a quieter time of the year.

We spend very little time in our room -- just sleep and get ready for the next day; so I would not spend the extra money. I am sure the views are nice, but why would I want to stand and look out at DL when I can be out there enjoying it?

I tend to agree...unless you were staying over a weekend when there were three nights of fireworks. Otherwise you will be too exhausted to take advantage of the view.

When we stayed at GCH we booked the standard room, and then just happened to ask if we could see the fireworks from the window (its the only way we can watch the fireworks, we have small kids who are asleep before them), the CM checked and said no, but then shifted us to a room that had a DTD view. I guess that was a more expensive room and we sure enjoyed the fireworks.

Yeah, I don't think I'd have attempted to bribe anyone at Disneyland. Just would have felt wrong lol

We are staying there over a weekend - 7 nights.

I'll ask for an upgrade when I'm there, to see if anything is available. :)

I have a feeling that any disney employee (and if you work at GC, that is a pretty sweet spot to be!)--would be fired if they were caught taking a bribe for an upgrade. That is so old school! I can't even picture it, really.

I personally think a good view is worth it--especially if you are paying for a very good hotel. We actually do spend time looking out the window in a hotel--for me that is part of the experience. You enjoy the view as you get up in the morning, and as you rest in the afternoon. My kids spent some of their happiest moments on our Disney vacations looking out the window. There is a lot to see--and it is magical! We love it.

If we are paying to stay at one of the Disneyland Resort Hotels, then I usually spring for the view as well.
