Gazebos? What do you do with yours in the winter ...

or if a hurricane is predicted. We bought a nylon type Gazebo this year; It took a couple of hours to put together. Now they are predicted a hurricane for the east coast. Do you just take the roof off? What do you do with it?

We normally take the cover off for the winter and it held up fine. Unfortunately we had a early, very heavy snow last winter and it caused the cover to sag and it destroyed the metal part of the gazebo. I bought a new one and the cover will come off long before any threat of of snow.

We don't have hurricanes in the midwest, but I would think you would want to remove the cover for that as well.

We used to have an EZup type on the back deck. That did ok in 'regular' wind, but if any high winds were predicted we always brought it in. (It was lashed to the deck with zipties, we just cut them.)

Now we have a more permanent structure with a canvas type top. This is the first summer we've had it. The cover will come off and be brought in before the weekend because of the potential for Irene to hit here in CT.

Take off the cover and it should be fine. This, of course, comes from the person who had 3 cheap gazebos/screenhouses destroyed by wind/hail this summer. All died due to extreme high winds that were completely unexpected. Our yard is not a good place for a temporary gazebo type structure.

Take the cover off.

Unless it's settled in by concrete or tied off with heavy nylon ropes to something like a building, I'd take the whole thing apart and indoors rather than have it in my yard where it could be a battering ram.
