Gay Days - what to expect

It will be me and my partner to be there for that weekend. We are both looking forward to it. Is there anything we should expect (big crowds).
Is MK worth going to on that Saturday or is it a mad house?

It is a madhouse.. and it's worth doing at least once. The crowd is unlike any other that's ever been in Disney. You have to go, if for no other reason, to people watch. The creativity of some groups is pretty amazing. One year there was a group of probably 60 guys who walked around as a moving pride flag (20 guys per color (t-shirts) and always walking in rainbow order). The sight was awesome from the now defunct sky buckets.

One year my group of guys (about 15) had a chant/cheer/sing off with a group of lesbians in front of us while on line for Splash Mountain. Between our two groups was one str8 family. The looks on their faces were like "what the heck did we get into?" It was priceless. I remember a woman came up to me and asked what was going on today and why everyone was in red. I told her that it was the unofficial gay day at MK. I thought she was probably going to freak out, instead she said something like "That's so cool. I am glad I brought my daughter." She mentioned that she wanted her child exposed to those who were "different" so that she would understand that they're not "different."

If you are a bear or bear lover, the bears usually have a meet up around 11am at CBJ to enter the show en-masse. Oh.. The 3pm parade is MUCH more festive than usual because (almost all) the male performers are performing for "family." The CM's who run the pre-parade show seem to have more fun as well. Be warned tho, it can get VERY VERY hot in the park. Waiting for the parade, you have to line up around 1pm to get anywhere close to the street if you're on mainstreet. One year it was 106 degrees.

I liked it for a while because it was a big party without the drugs or alcohol to make people do stupid things.

Be creative with your red shirt!!

If you want to have some "Bear Soup" there is also an off-site Bear party called Tidal Wave. Guys take over a small water park in Orlando. Fun!

My first year at Gaydays, I was hanging out with some people i knew from working at Balzac (the balloon ball thingies). We were sitting waiting on Spectro, when 2 little British kids came up to us.

In sweet little English accents, they go "Excuse us sirs, our grandmamma is very old, and we were wondering if she could sit with you".

We all scoot over, and this little old lady comes and sits with us. She turns to us and goes, "If we had known you poufters were going to be here now, we would have never come! I'm glad we did though, it's been brilliant. Everyone has been so nice to us, and the kids are treated like royalty!"

Thanks. It does sound like a lot of fun. The CBJ sounds like it would be fun. The moving pride flag must have looked incredible.

I've always wanted to go during Gay Days so my kids could see there are other families just like theirs Not to mention that it sounds like a pride parade that I'd feel OK taking my kids to!

I would say 99% of the crowd there behaves. There are some gay people who think that they own the park that day and can do what they want.

Some people need to be reminded they aren't in Providence or SF and to tone it down a little. But, you can always use those people as a bad example

Back when it first started, there was only Disney and Epcot. And it was red shirts because the group was small. Now it's still red shirts, but really it's about pride and wearing a pride type shirt. (As long as it's tasteful and Disney won't throw you out because of it.) People wear "outfits" and stuff now. It doesn't matter what park you're in. I would wear a red or **** where red is the major color if you don't have anything "pride specific."
