DDs 6th birthday Oct 9 is the last day of our APs. We want to make a 2-3 day trip for our last hurrah, but her bd is the day after Columbus Day, which last year was the busiest day we have ever experienced at DL in 5 years.
How are Gay Days as far as crowds in the park?
And for those who have visited DL during Gay Days, have you witnessed heavy PDA -- I'm not talking about hand holding and kissing, but "get a room" type behavior. Please do not take this question as anti-gay; I avoid Grad Nites because of the teenage PDA -- I just don't want to have The Talk with my kids at Disneyland!:goodvibes

My birthday is 10/9 too :yay:
Gay Days is from 10/5-7. If you go on the 9th, the GD'd crowds will be slim to none.

Thanks; yes, the 9th should be clear, but the 2 days before fall during Columbus Day wkend/Monday so I'm thinking Gay Days wkend may be lighter crowds?

they act like every other family that goes to DL....

Whoops! Missed the part about you going for 2-3 days....
Yes! I would expect it to be crowded with Gay Days and Columbus Day. There are a lot of schools on Fall break at that time...plus, the GD rates were really great for the onsite hotels and ticket prices. I think a lot of people are taking advantage of the savings and going that particular weekend.

We've been to gay days and would never have known that it was gay days. Just a lot of families and people enjoying the parks.

I've actually found it not to be particularly crowded over the weekend, though it does flucuate. You can expect the afternoon before the Halloween party to be crowded, for example. The rest of the time, the crowd seems fairly reasonable. Sunday is the DCA day for Gay Days, so I imagine that, combined with the already crowded Cars Land, will be pretty busy.

As for PDAs, we've seen far more straight couples who needed to get a room than gay couples. Our theory is that some people, in the presence of gays, feel the need to establish their sexuality for the world to see. Even as an adult straight woman, I have sometimes been disturbed by some of the things I've seen straight couples do while waiting in lines or walking through the park.

This.

We were there last year for Gay Days. It was our last day. The only reason I noticed was the heavier crowd and red shirts.

Inappropriate behavior is person-based, and is not related to sexual orientation.

Gay Days almost always fall on my birthday weekend so I've been there every year for about the past ten years. Just like within any group ... there almost always seems to a trouble maker or two ... from my experience, I have noticed the "normal gay" folks (sorry ... not trying to be insulting here) seemed to be as appalled if not more by the behavior of those that are acting "over the top". I've seen some rather offesive t-shirts and PDA's but its not really that common. It's really just more Disney fans having a good time. I think there is far more (and often) bad behavior by the general public.

I haven't been to DL gay days, but I have been to WDW gay days. It wasn't anything out of the ordinary as far as PDA... but there were some questionable tshirts.

"I like little boys" was one that put me off- and I'd feel that way if it was a straight woman wearing it. At Disney World? Come on, man!

Got Disneyland hotel for 179/night for Sat 10/6 and Sun 10/7. Wow that's half what we paid this summer! Phone in Gay Days rates were still available as of this morning for Sat/Sun at DLH (Friday was sold out); PP was sold out for the entire wkend.

Having gone to GD at WDW and being part of the GD crowd as a straight couple showing support to our friends who we meet up with during GD questions like this somewhat grate my nerves. These are families just like your own who simply are same gendered, there is no difference other wise.

Go and enjoy yourselves and use it as an opportunity to teach your children love is love rather than thinking you'll need to go and have 'The Talk'

I'm there that week too and I understand the OP's hesitation 100%, and you won't find a more gay-friendly family than mine, including my daughter. I'm not sure I'd want to take her to 'heterosexual days' either, if that existed.

We were at DL a few days ago during gay days. We had our almost 3yo DS with us. I had been aware GD were happening, and was interested to see what they were like. Lots of couples and families, many with LGBT shirts proclaiming and supporting. I don't recall anything more than hand holding, certainly nothing I wouldn't want my child seeing. I was on the lookout for same sex families, and don't recall seeing many, mainly larger groups of friends/ extended families.

My DH and I work in healthcare, which seems to be very "gay-friendly" and have many lesbian (and some gay) friends, so it wasn't a big deal in any way, just interesting to see.

This is one child's view of Gay Days:
After a visit three years ago, Miss Seven said she would like to work at the place where people wore red shirts because they were all taken to Disneyland for their holidays.
