I finally did it! After numerous flight changes, rebookings, more flight changes, and a lot of frustration... I decided that AirTran was OUT! I canceled my reservation and got a full refund to my credit and then rebooked my travel on Southwest... and it only cost me $1 more!

45 days to go.......

I wish I had done that. Airtran stinks.

Welcome to the club. We changed from AT to SW, too - for $80 less. Plus free bags and nonstop flights (that haven't changed).

AT changed us from nonstops at good times to night flights with layovers, then to a different DAY with nasty layovers. That's when I canceled.

I still can't complain! My flights have actually changed for the better, and SW are still much higher anyway! So I'm still hoping things keep going my way, we'll see!!

I changed back in June, it was the BEST thing I have done this whole trip. I'm no longer checking, rechecking and worrying over flight changes. My last straw came when they took my NS and changed it to a layover in Atlanta and booked my husband on a totally different flight than us. SW was 300 more than AT but with the decrease in fares, I now have a $501.00 credit with SW.
So, looks like I will be taking another trip next year...can we say BOUNCEBACK! :dance3:

my wife and i had been looking at AT for awhile but bought our tickets on American when they lowered their prices this week. we feel much better about being on american.

We also cancelled with airtran. We were booked on a nonstop from Logan. Three times they changed us the last time we had almost a 5 hour delay. We ended up booking nonstop with SW and it was cheaper:goodvibes

I'm glad it worked out for you for the better!

Luckily, Airtran changed us and I called and talked to someone and got a better flight at a better time. We went from having a 4 hour layover to a non stop flight. and gained a 1/2 day on our vacation!! WOOT!

Can you tell me how you managed to get a full refund? Was this a fully refundable fare? I booked airtran a while ago, but can now get the same price on the same flight time from SWA. I would love to dump airtran b/c of all the horror stories I have heard. But I bought a nonrefundable fare.

Technically, it was a non-refundable fare. But if Airtran changes your schedule, they will give you a choice: rebook your flight or take a full refund. It can even be a slight change... just a couple minutes or so. But once they make that schedule change, they will give the refund.

Did the same thing last month - saved $40 re-booking with SW - they changed my layover from a 2 hour wait to a 5 hour wait - no thanks! Called and cancelled with no problem whatsoever and full refund with no fee. Now we have a non-stop flight home that will stay non-stop!:cool1:

I know that we 'usually' only see the bad sides of stuff here, but I wonder how many people airlines are losing because of these kinds of things. I was going to book them for the RAC, but I like nonstop (that's not their fault of course) but all these schedule changes just freak me out..
And you would think that MCO would be a more popular / constant destination and not require as many changes.. :confused3

Thanks for the info - good to know. I booked Airtran when SW was charging $139 one way. I knew they would drop their prices, and they did. But I got nervous with the rising air fare and I booked air tran. I love SWA and would prefer to fly with them anyday.

we booked back in march for an october trip from boston...we had our sunday morning nonstop flight changed several times, eventually to an afternoon nonstop...i checked southwest and the airfare would have been about $35 more per ticket, which i could have lived with for a little more piece of mind. after a family meeting, we opted instead to add an additional night at WDW and fly out on airtran saturday morning...keeping my fingers crossed as we are under 50 days now...

I'm the exact same way. I love SW. I fly them all the time, especially on the PIT-PHL route to visit my parents. I keep earning points, so I figure adding in this roundtrip ticket to MCO will help me earn another free flight.

We also cancelled our AT flight. We were switched from non stop to a stop over in Atlanta, which bothered me, but I could have lived with it. And then they switched our flight from Wed to Tues. without letting us know. I happened to login to see if there was a better time and noticed the change in the day. I called and cancelled and rebooked with Jetblue on a non stop flight.

Air Tran changed 4 times in six weeks. I cancelled with air tran and booked DELTA. This is out of control. I am with you. Why is when I need to change my flights they charge me a fee, but when they do it all I get was a big sorry. Maybe if they are made to pay us a fee, there would not be any schedule changes.

I wonder how many passengers AT has lost by trying to save money? I'd guess a LOT.

I originally booked AirTran and then thanks to the boards checked my flight. I was switched to a flight 3 hours earlier and had a layover added. Plus DH was not given a seat. I got a full refund and booked with Southwest for $100 less. I am happy now.
