Just wondered how you all get to gatwick ?

We live near Derby and are looking atm into the cheapest (and best) way for us to get there for our flight (at 12 noon on a Saturday ... we want to stay overnight thou). We don' go till next year - but no harm in checking things out now :)

Would it be to train down and across on the gatwick express or similar.

Drive and pay carpark charges

Get a flight from EMA ?

What have you done in the past .. what worked best ?

We are near Leicester and drive down the night before and stay at the Gatwick Hilton. Usually down the M40.

You can get deals there for 1 nights family room and 15 days parking :)

Take a look at the Holidays Extras site:

http://www.holidayextras.co.uk/

If flying with Virgin you can take advantage of twilight checkin and get rid of your bags :)
The Hilton is a short walk to the south terminal where you can have a nice meal and wonder round the shop the night before your flight :)

We live in North West London and we always drive down the night before and stay at the Hilton and use their 15 day parking packages. It works out cheaper than taking a minicab or the train.

You can catch the Brighton train instead of the Gatwick express for a fraction of the cost and it only takes a little longer.

Short haul we have driven ourselves once, but most of the time as DMIl is a private hore driver she takes and collects us as we live on the coast in East Sussex :)

Claire ;)

Well normally I used to drive overnight, park at Gatwick and then get the plane, but this time we are taking the coach, Natioanal Express for several reasons.

1 Were staying at the Gatwick hotel which is linked to the airport.

2 were going the day before, then we can get a good night sleep, good evening meal and breakfast,

3 most importanly, the last time I came back, flew overnight, then drove 3 hours to get home, tired is not the word I would use to desribe how I felt, totally shattered, so this time coach home.

We do National Express the night before - then Hilton on Tesco vouchers (used to before they changed to a 2 night minimum!!!:confused3) . Driving back whilst exhausted is no joke....on the coach - we set the alarm on our phone for 15 min before arrival home and arrive with some of the jet lag slept out of the system.
