We are staying overnight at Gatwick next July. We have done this twice before and walked to the Travel Inn - although we did take our life in our hands crossing the road!!.

I have found the Softiel which looks lovely but expensive? Anyone any other recommendations. We are flying with BA so cannot do twilight checkin so will have cases and kids to transport :goodvibes

Thanks in advance

We stayed at the Ramada Plaza last December and found it very clean and a good sized room for 2 adults and 2 kids. I think from memory the rack rate was about £75 for the room - breakfast was not included but we didnt bother with that until we got to the airport anyway :) We booked via VH and got our flying club discount.

There is a hotel shuttle bus service that seems to go to quite a few of the hotels - yes you do have to pay for it (a couple of quid each - kids free) but it was relatively easy. We had done twilight check-in so no cases.

It certainly worked out a better option for us with the 2 kids :thumbsup2

We are booked into the Hilton tomorrow night - I will let you know what it's like!

Staying here would make it really easy to transport kids / cases as it is attached to the terminal. Most of the airport hotels have regular shuttles though so I wouldn;t worry too much about transport. I have heard good things about the Sofitel but it was more expensive than the Hilton when we booked.

Why can't you do twilight check-in with BA? http://www.holidayextras.co.uk/news/parking/online-checkin.html

Check www.holidayextras.co.uk rates for the Sofitel - it is lovely and very convenient. Have often seen rates of about £99 room only at the Sofitel, although we normally book it with parking.

We recently stayed at the Hilton and the room was nice. Very comparable to Sofitel - though Sofitel is slightly better.

We booked through fhrbook.com (I think that is their website).

We have stayed at the Renaissance too which is north side area, BA go from North dont they?

Assuming you are flying BA to Gatwick, is your travel on the same booking. If so can you not simply check your luggage through to MCO and have 1 or 2 overnight bags as hand luggage?

Consider a B&B option around Horley as they will pick you up for free and give you a decent breakfast as an alternative lower cost option and they are 5 - 10 mins away.
The inclusive breakfast and evening bar supper options can make it attractive and the good ones are more than adequate for a 1 night stay.

Tripadvisor will recommend two or three.

I know this is daft but BA lost our luggage when we flew this year to Paris and DH wants piece of mind that it at least reaches London. I didnt know that BA offered Twilight checkin so may just pick up the bags then check them back in :confused3

We are paying £15 for a Travelodge room! Plus £59 for parking at the airport. So a bargain for 3 weeks.

I've stayed at the Hilton, Sofitel and Ramada Plaza. The Hilton is my preferred choice, but I usually go with the Sofitel if it comes out cheaper. The Ramada Plaza is okay - but a little too far out (10 minutes taxi trip), although the rooms are spacious and the pool is nice.

If you are a HHonors member, you might be able to bag an upgrade on check-in, or be able to use your points towards a stay.

We have been underwhelmed by the Hilton the last couple of times, so we are giving the Sofitel a go this time.

Yes, I have a heard from a few people that they have been disappointed recently. I stayed there last month and didn't have any problems - the room seemed newly refurbished and we use our Hilton club points to get a standard room and then get a free upgrade to the executive level with HHonors, so it doesn't cost a penny. If we did pay, I agree that the Sofitel might be better value.

We stay at the Sofitel about once a year and have never been disappointed. Ok it isn't a Ritz Carlton, but it is - in my opinion - a very good 4*/Business hotel. We haven't eaten there, but the public areas are great and we have always liked the rooms/bathrooms :thumbsup2

Have never heard anyone complain about the hotel and don't think that you will be disappointed :)
