We're flying from gatwick on the 30th November this year and instead of the 3 hour journey to get there we are looking to book a decent hotel near by with easy access to the airport?

Does anyone have any suggestions?

We did a park and stay at Gatwick many years ago and it was lovely :sunny:

I think it was the Copthorne, Gatwick, which is about 4 miles from the airport and in the countryside.

This link should, hopefully, take you there:

http://www.gatwick-copthorne-hotel.com/

We'll have booked it through 'Holiday Extras' or something similar :goodvibes

We stayed at "Trumbles" for the first time this year and would really recommend it. It's a small family run hotel with good sized, very comfortable rooms. We had Bed and Breakfast - DW, DD and myself (full English) and 15 days parking all for the princely sum of £100.

The owner also takes you to the airport and collects you from the airport when you come back.

I will be using them again and again and again...... :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Hi there,

We stayed at the Hilton Gatwick which is actually connected to the airport via a walkway. As such is is only a 5 - 10 min undercover walk from your room to the airport departure lounge.

It was slightly more expensive that other local hotels by in my opinion the location was well worth the price.

I hope you really enjoy your trip.

Thanks,
Stephen.

Thanks guys, the problem im having is that all the parking seems to be for 15 days? im going out for my wedding and honeymoon so im out there for 19 days.

Thanks for the help though, hotels look fab!

Ah - ha! Funnily enough we had that exact same problem when we went on our honeymoon, as we went for 18 days.

In the end we decided to hire a private taxi to take us from home to Gatwick (about a 2 hour trip). We just booked the hotel without any parking so we saved a bit of money, although it was still not as much as it cost to hire a private taxi both ways. However as it was our honeymoon we decided, what the hell! Which is the thought we tried to continue for the rest of the trip :-)

Don't forget the casually drop it to everybody that you are on your honeymoon. You never know what kind of upgrades may come your way.

Thanks,
Stephen.

"15 days" is just the quoted amount (because commonly people holiday for 14 days, add the day before for the pre-flight hotel stay... equals 15 days).

We virtually always do the park/stay deals and are away for more than 15 days.

Look under the "additional information" for each hotel - it should say how much extra days cost (normally about £10 a day or "at the car park's normal rate")

My favourite site for booking pre-flight hotels and parking is http://www.holidayextras.co.uk - have never found anywhere cheaper.

Personally I like to stay over the night before: you have enough travelling (and sitting down) on the day that you fly, why add to it? Also makes the night before more part of the holiday :)

You pay, upfront, for 15 days parking and then pay the remainder when you leave :thumbsup2

We've stayed at the Britannia Countryhouse before, paid for 15 days, stayed 18 and they've refused the extra payment ;)

I believe "Trumbles" will allow you to park your car for the period of your stay. All you'll need to do is tell them when you are going to return.

Why not book the hilton on their website, or another hotel then book the parking seperate at the Gatwick south longstay, if you book nore than 4 weeks in advance you get a big discount normally on BAA's website.

For easy access to the airport I would go for the Sofitel as it is connected to the North Terminal and has a good leisure complex and restuarant. Holiday Extras and otehr such companies usually offer it sometimes with 21 days parking.

Claire ;)

I believe that any airport car parking hotel will let you park for as long as you need as long as you pay the extras on leaving :thumbsup2

Trumbles seems a good deal - far less costly than the Copthorne at least :sunny:

We have stayed at the Gatwick Hilton 5 times now and find it so easy to be able to walk through the tunnel into the terminal. It also means you can go walk around the airport the night before which always makes me even more excited. We always fly with virgin which means we use Twilight Check-in where you can check-in the evening before you fly, then you only have to go to the airport 1 hour before your flight.

Having stayed at both the Hilton and the Sofitel, although the Hilton is fractionally nearer, the Sofitel is far, far superior so I would recommend that. It still only takes 2 minutes to get to the South Terminal.

Laura, are the rest of your family travelling down and staying or just you? All our lot are staying at the Hilton and we got a little bit of a discount on the rooms as we booked 11 rooms.
My vote is for the Hilton or Sofitel, it is your wedding after all!!!!

Depends on the date - the dates I have been looking at the Sofitel is £99 room only. What date are you interested in and what parking would you be interested in (number of days) if you were considering parking too?

The date is 16/9/2006 for one night with no parking, I am travelling down by train.

Assuming you are looking for a double (room only, no parking), that date is:
- Sofitel, £95
- Hilton, £107.50

The Gatwick Arora is very good value at £59. The hotel is actually in Crawley, BUT it is directly on the platform on the line to Gatwick (might be useful since you are coming down by train anyway). Haven't stayed there, but maybe worth a look... http://www.arorainternational.com/gatwick/Arora_Gatwick.html

There are quite a few other Gatwick hotels around for the £50 to £60 mark.
