Gators

and if you see my daughter, please don't feed her as well. she'll follow you home demanding a Limited 2 credit card. :)

Did anyone see the AP story of the Boa Constrictor that tried to swallow a good size Gator - both died? Happened in the everglades, but not real comforting to know that folks are abandoning their pet Boas in the swamps![/QUOTE]

I think it was a Burmese python. Is this the story you were talking about? http://www.wusatv9.com/news/news_article.aspx?storyid=43643
Pretty freaky pics/video with the story. One of the strangest things I have ever seen :earseek: :scared1:

Actually, it's illegal to make them into a bag, shoes, etc. They get moved to a safer location for guests and the gator.

Nuisance alligators are often captured by licensed trappers and are harvested for their meat and hides. They do make purses and boots out of them. In fact, traditionally, four gator hide footballs are commissioned every year for the Gator Bowl.

It's a nice place to visit, but that example and the hurricanes are why I'd never live in Florida.

We saw a small gator (about 4 feet) in the body of water that runs past the quiet pool at BCV, and reported it to 2 different CM's. One said he'd report it to the proper department; the other said the gator's name was "Susie" and because she was well fed she had never been a threat to any humans, but if she got much bigger or showed any kind of aggression, she'd be removed.

Python/Boa Consrictor...no need to split hairs (or snakes in this case).

One of the creepiest pictures I've seen in a long time.

Think the clincher was the fact that the snake's head was missing.

Along the same vein, a few years ago my oldest DS decided to retrieve one of his golf balls from a water hazard in Myrtle Beach. As he was leaning into the lake to grab his ball, the course Ranger started screaming & yelling and came running...said something about the gator liking to chase the tourists! Hope he was kidding.

You know you are in Florida when you see one. :Pinkbounc

These 'canes and Gators may be a good thing, along with the heat and mosquitos - Florida is running out of room to house everyone!

Has anyone else ever seen a Gator or Crock at Disney? What do they do with them?

The former biology teacher in me just wants to point out that alligators are found North America; crocodiles are not (unless they were released into the environment or escaped from a zoo or other enclosure).

No criticism intended since this isn't a widely known fact - but the Everglades is the only place in the world where Gators & Crocs live in the same environment.

And yes, I did use the word "icky." In March 2003 I was staying at POFQ. We were walking to the dock to catch the boat to DTD. A man at the edge of the water said he just saw a copperhead. I am terrified of all of these, regardless of what type they are. Could he really have seen one, or was he pulling my leg?

Please tell me he was pulling my leg. I'm already having palpitations thinking about staying there next year, and it's definitely where we're staying. :scared1:

Honestly If you don't bother them, snakes are afraid of people and mostlikely they will run when they see you.Its really nothing to worry about.

I want to see a gator. Of course at a distance. :teeth: When we were there in June I was having paranioa about whether there were gators in the water as we were taking the boat to DTD.

We went on a cruise last year and one of the dockings was at Cozumel, Mexico. The men in our party went golfing and said there were all sorts of animals on the course, gators or crocs (not sure which) iguana's and birds.

I remember reading a post a while ago about the one in the water near tom sawyer island. Someone posted a photo of it eating a turkey leg.

Thank god i didn't know about it before when first did tom sawyer island otherwise i would have never have gone.

I was actually laying in bed last night thinking of our up coming trip and remembered that gator.

I was also wondering last night if the jungle cruise water has any gators in and how big the boats were. :rotfl2: the funny things you think about.

Gators are fine when they stay where they belong, ie in water I'm not in. But snakes, ewwww. My cousin and his 4 yo son saw a black snake of some sort on the sidewalk when they visited us at OKW this past weekend so boys being boys he had to look for it whenever we passed that spot. I actually stepped on a garter snake while trail running one time and I'm not sure who was more surprised as they normally slither out of the way when you get close. I've had a healthy respect/dislike for snakes since we use to see timber rattlers when visiting Garnet and some of the other ghost towns in western MT growing up.

We just currently moved to Orange Park, FL. I have yet to see one, but the kids in the neighbor states we have one in the pond behind out house..
Ok.. now I'm from the Midwest, but if you can't kill them, how do we have our yummy gator tail???
