Being from Canada the thought of having a gator in the canal behind the campsites gives me flash backs to movies like Lake Placid. I may be getting carried away with it never actually seeing a gator unless it was behind glass at the zoo, but seeing the picture on TCD's post has me freaking out. Please talk me down and tell me gators in the canal will not come out onto the sites and eat us...ahhhh!!! I am sure I am overly worried about it, but geesh, those things have big teeth and jaws of steel, I'm wetting my pants a little... :)

NEVER seen one at a site. they come in to the canals once in a while but are usually removed within an hour of being reported. NO WORRIES !!!

they pretty much stay in the water, no worries. just don't go for walks with raw chickens dangling off your arms.

Do not do this, and you'll be fine!

Seriously, I've been camping at the Fort for over 20 years, and I've never seen an alligator come up into the campsites. I've seen them down in the lake by the marina, but they are afraid of humans, so they won't leave the water or bank. But, just to be safe, if you have very small kids, or a small dog, and you are on one of the sites that goes right up to the canal, don't let them play back there by themselves. There are also water snakes that could bite. It's just common sense all over Florida (and some other southern states). :)

They dont like the taste of Canadians anyways. If one latches onto you they will spit you out right away. No need to worry.

Heehee, ya I've heard us Canadians are a bit chewy...:lmao: Maybe it's all the peameal bacon and maple syrup we eat....eh?? :lmao: To funny!! Thanks for the vote of confidence, as long as I don't hike around the canal with raw chicken, I'll be fine. Heehee!!
I feel a lot better about it now :) Thanks!!
I can handle the huge moose, the bears, the deer, the beavers,etc... that I've seen around home, but an alligator?? I guess I just have these pre-conceived fears about the wildlife I'm not use to seeing.

Best keep your windows up and doors locked when driving through Gainesville, they are loaded with Gators. Everywhere you go there's gators.

But then you could stop in Tallahassee and pick up a couple of Noles for protection.

This one was behind our site on April 1st...

I learned my lesson with April fools jokes.

Nevertheless, that IS quite a sight, huh? Just when domesticDiva was feeling better, you had to bring out the big guns! :lmao:

I was wondering where my little lizard ran off to. Too bad this one had to be destroyed. I'd hate to run into him say on the old swamp trail lol.

Don't be scared of Gators. Their just harmless animals that like to wear Jorts and Wife Beater Shirts and sport fashionable Mullets.:)

Do not worry!

I have camped at the Fort more times than I can count, and in case you didn't notice, I explore all over the place when I am there. I have only seen the one gator. Ever.

Disney traps the wild critters and gets them out of there. They don't want the liability. I'll bet that gator is long gone by now.

If you ever see a gator in the wild, which you might on occasion in Florida, you will find that they don't like people. The ones that are dangerous are the ones that people feed. Then they associate people with food, and that creates problems.

So, don't worry about the gators at the Fort. Chances are very good that you will never see one.

Still looks like he can bite your *** off...I always think those are the type to get stuck in a water line and crawl up through your toilet. Wierd huh?:confused3 I'm very careful to put the light on and look before sitting.:rotfl2:

I'm more worried about those BUTT UGLY armadillos..
