My DH want's to see Gators when we come to Florida. I think he saw a Nature programme once where they were dangling chickens (dead ones) on sticks over the top of Gators and he put it in his "things I'd like to see oneday" list. Well the day is coming up and I'd rather spend time with Mickey and his friends than watch Gators....with or without chickens.I have tried to assure him there is bound to be Gators at AK, but he reckons there will only be paper mache ones. Please tell me there really are Gators at AK and save me from a trip to Gatorland! :earseek:

Personally I think you would have a great time at Gatorland. It is a great way to spend a morning.

Gators like dusk and night-time. Therefore, the best way to see a gator is around dinner time or shortly thereafter. They like to "hang" in the revenes you see while on the WDW bus.

We've see a few this way.

You might be able to see a wild alligator almost anywhere there is water in Florida. However, if you want to see a show, or get up close and personal, then Gatorland is the place to go. I don't think there are gators on exhibit in AK, I could be wrong as it's not my favorite park.

Noooooooooo I DO NOT want to see the Gators. Please do not send me to Gatorland. Now I will have to hide this post from DH. I'm trying to convince my DH that I'm sure we will come across one somewhere at WDW(not at AK??) so we DON"T HAVE to go to Gatorland. We are coming all the way from Australia for a one and only trip to WDW. He has seen Crocodiles before, that should be enough Reptiles!

We saw a gator and some sea turtles each morning from our balcony at the Beach Club Villas. They swim in the canal that runs along the front of the YC, BC and BCV. They can't get out though as the sides are too steep. It was cool watching them each morning though as we ate our breakfast out there.

THere is a gator in AK--inside Dinoland--go to the right and its on the left hand side across from teh McD's restaurant----its not called McD's--something like The Restaurant is what its called--but theres a little pond area (fenced in) and there is an alligator in it. Also, on the AK safari, there are alligators to be seen there also. I took a pic--just not sure how to post them!

I HATE REPTILES !!

But my son loves them and when we were in Mrytle Beach I took him to Gatorland. Wasn't my cup of tea , but it was intriguing :confused3 If your DS really is into gators that much have DH take him there.

But yes we have seen gators on the AK safari

I know you don't want to go to Gatorland but since this is your one and only trip to WDW, why don't you do something that DH wants to do as well? Personally I would go if DH wanted to go and I knew it was our only time going. Just doesn't seem fair otherwise.

When we drive to WDW we often see gators in the retention ponds as we're driving into WDW, we exit I-4 at the Mickey Ears electrical thing. There are 2 ponds there that usually have a small gator.

i thought the reptiles on the Safari were crocs.(could have swore that's what the cm said which freaked me out since you go over a bridge right over them) there are gators at wdw but your chances of seeing them are pretty slim. once they get to a certain size supposibly the CMs move them to a remote area of WDw( not by the hotels and parks, they have tons of land). A friend of mine saw one in the lake at DTD but we've been there 7 times and never saw one. maybe have your husband go parasailing or water skiing( think you can water ski, maybe not) and dangle a dead chicken from his leg..he might see one then :) and save you the gatorland expedition

Try doing this early in the morning, since it is only a 15 minute ride to or from Disney, and this will give you a good look of gators and they might even have one on hand, for your son to hold.

Gators come out early in the morning to replenish their energy, through their scales (act as solar panels) and then go into the water until late afternoon, when the sun goes down.

Good luck

I'd skip Gatorland and go for an airboat ride somewhere in Cent Florida. This way, you're going to see gators in the wild and see some beautiful natural surroundings to boot.

And since there are gators in virtually every mud puddle in the state - you're pretty much guaranteed some sightings.

The animals on the safari are Nile crocs - there aren't any gators in Africa, so it would be inauthentic to include them.

I just wanted to add that I have NEVER seen gators in the wild. It was disappointing lol.

There are real crocs on the safari at AK, but we personally LOVE Gatorland! It's so much fun. It's a chance to see a real, old fashioned Florida tourist attraction.

Sorry but this seems a little (ok alot) selfish to me!!

So it's ok for your DH to come all the way from Australia for a one and only trip, but you can't take a little time for something he would like to do???

hmmmm, just my thoughts there.

If you have a rental car, go to Celebration for a breakfast or lunch. There are great places to eat there, and the downtown area is nice to walk around and explore.

Then, send your DH towards the fountain, across the street from the movie theater. Look over the railing into the pond near the lilly pads. He will see lots of fish, Florida softshell turtles, painted turtles, and maybe a juvenile alligator. He is there pretty much every time I walk by there.

Well, besides during winter.

Ted

You can see alligators on any coastal area golf course from North Carolina to Florida, actually anywhere in Florida. When I worked in Jacksonville FL years ago at Barnett Bank, I was going into my office off Southside Blvd. It had rained heavily the night before (can U believe it....Rain in Florida?) Well right in the middle of the Parking lot a large puddle had been formed by the rain and right in the middle of the puddle ......a 7 ft. gator, happy as a clam to be where he (or she) was. I walked right past it within 15 feet...said good morning, went inside the office and called "the gator catcher". (same as a dog catcher, but in florida....dogs get caught by the gators). Got a picture of it, will try to post. :rotfl:
