Gatorland on Fire

thats a shame. it sounds screwy to me. i went there just a few months ago.

It would suck to get up early only to find out your theme park of choice for the day got burned down.

But on a more serious note, this is very sad news. It sounds like most animals are ok. Hopefully it has not completely devastated the attraction and that they can get it back up and running soon.

Awww! I liked Gatorland, even though I haven't been there in ten years. Glad the animals are okay. Hope they're up and running and selling gator nuggets real soon. BTW - are gator nuggets actual gator meat? :confused3

Although not nearly as badly as to wake up early only to find the theme park you OWN is on fire...

Wow that's too bad.

Very true, but that only affects a smaller group of people.

Although, they said that the owner usually gets there at 6 am and he was already in his office when the fire started, which is what thankfully allowed him to react quickly and call the fire department as soon as it started.

Our best friend who works for the state of Florida, has gone to investgate the fire. My DH said he talked to him before he left to go. I wonder how it started?

The last I heard was that up to 10 snakes and reptiles, including some crocodiles, may have died in the fire that engulfed the gift shop, but firefighters had not been able to get in to confirm that. Yikes. :(

That's terrible news! Thanks for letting me know. My entire family are fans of Gatorland - it is a must-do when we are at WDW. It looks like the fire was contained relatively quickly.

Looks like it was bad but the mouth is intact.

Oh, that just breaks my heart. We love Gatorland. We've had lots of fun days there.

This sucks! We're leaving tomorrow and were planning of visiting Gatorland next Wed. or Thurs. The reports didn't indicate if and when they'd reopen. Anyone in the know on this? :guilty:

We've been to the Alligator Farm in St. Augustine and really enjoyed it and were really looking forward to visiting Gatorland. Is there a similar park around here? We'll have 3-4 days of free Orlando/Daytona time. Any help would be appreciated!

WOW, Thats very sad, but i could never imagine being sent to a fire where i not only had to worry about death by fire but alligators too.

Some good news. They thought two crocks for sure had died in the blaze, as they were housed up front near the entrance. When the fire marshall went in to investigate one of the crocs poked his head up through the debris alive and well! The other one has not been found yet. The officials from Gatorland said on the news they have been getting phone calls from all over the world offering help, including Disney. They are insured, and will be back in buisness as soon as possible. I know I for one will be one of the first in line to give them a little of my hard earned cash when they do re-open the gates! I literally drive past this place at least twice a week, it will be hard to drive by and look at the damage! God Speed Gatorland! You may not be the biggest player in town, but you are in our hearts and prayers!

Mike
