Gatorland on Fire

The entrance actually survived pretty good. When I got up around 6am the photos from the news were awful, it literally looked like a fire breathing dragon! But now that the smoke has cleared, its not in bad shape at all.

Oh, well that certainly is good. It's also good that one of the alligators presumed dead actually survived.

How sad. I hope everything works out.

OrlandoMike -- I thought the same. We have never been there. But I decided to do the same once we can, and show support by spending some time and $ there.

Orlando Mike I will be in line right behind you. I am glad to hear that Disney offered to help.

Wow, we just went there in April. I'm soo glad we got to visit in time. We love gatorland, hopefully they will be back in full force soon.

Did anyone see my questio as to whether gator nuggets are real alligator meat? I don't know if Gatorland still sells them, but they did ten years ago.

I'm pretty sure they are real gator.

It's not uncommon to see gator on the menu down here. There is a restaurant in St. Cloud that has gator and turtle on the menu. Deep fried of course!

yes is it real alligator meat. We had them and alligator ribs in April. Nuggets weren't bad, but the ribs were not very good.

I heard on the news that the owners plan to have it open ASAP. They will use the back entrance as the guest entrance.

Was very sorry to here about this. I hope everything works out and they are up and running again soon.

Any news on gatorland? Are they cleaning up already?

They say it started from a spark from a heating "pad" device for the pythons. 2 pythons and 1 alligator died. It grew so quickly because the shop and entrance is all wood and the clothing inside the store.

I have not been to Gaterland, so don't know much about it personally. People at work were describing the shop as if it were made just about made to go up in flames. A dirt floor with straw -- a (thatched??) roof that was actually built by Seminole Indians. (Piece of history gone.)
Just seemed like a tinderbox from what they descibed. :confused3
I am very glad they are reopening for the holidays. :sunny: I will be sure to go soon. :)

I don't know how long ago they have been there, but the floor was wood as was the whole structure. No straw or thatch roofing. But, it was all wood, the fire spread instantly.

That is so sad, I feel bad for the croc & snakes that died.
