Hello everyone!

I did a search to see if anyone had tried Gatorade's newer G Series. I have seen ads for a long time but they have always angered me! I could never find anything other than the G2 Perform in my local stores.

I did however stumble upon them last night and purchased them for my 10 mile this sat.

Just wondering if anyone has any reviews or opinions?

Thanks a bunch!

I use G2. Isn't the G series just the plain old Gatorade. The just repackaged it so they could have a gel and a recovery drink in the series.

Yes, G2 is just gatorade. They're trying to have a G1, G2, G3 series, where you use G1 as your primer, before the event. G2 as your during hte event, and G3 as your following the event.

G2 is different than Gatorade. G is plain/original Gatorade and G2 is a low calorie version of G or the original Gatorade.

G or G2 is the second step or Perform step of the G series though. The first step is Prime and the last step is recovery.

It is hard to imagine why this is a marketing nightmare and very people understand what is going on with the brand. Glad I'm a shareholder for PepsiCo so i spend enough time to figure out what is going on. :confused3

G2 is low cal G. The second step of the G series Perform02 is original gatorade. But for the original question is has onyone tried the 1,2,3.

I can only say I like the Perform02 better than G2 or Powerade, becuase it is more real ingredients. I am planning on having garden grocer bring me some for Wine and Dine.

It's actually pretty crazy in the Kitchens of Gatorade... Though the science behind their product is kind of sound. The original target of the G2 was folks who were not doing a strenuous sport but would still be out in the heat and subject to dehydration ... I find it a useful formual for those days when I am not headed out for an extended period .... or it's just what is on the shelf.

They even offer a natural line now.

Followup ---- I have only seen the 02 portion of the product line. I am sure if I looked or asked I could get my local guy to stock 01 and 03.... but I am happy with my currrent products there.

Charles - I found the 01 and 03 versions in my local HEB grocery store last week entirely by accident next to the Gatorade, and for less than I've seen anywhere else.

Anyone ever tried it?? Is it beneficial? Did it help you on you run?
Thanks for any info!

I saw it at GNC while I was looking for Cytomax. All 3 items. I can't do Gatorade, it upsets my tummy something awful.:confused3

Nikki, that is kind of personal. Not the "kind of personal" where you shouldn't ask, but personal as it varies by person. Everyone uses something different. I don't usually use anything special before an event or a training run, just regular food.

Depending on the length I will use GU gels similar to Perform 1 that Gatorade sells. I will also use G2 during a long bike, but not a run (only because I don't want to carry it) Remember G2 is the low cal version of regular Gatorade which is now Perform 2. Confused yet :)

I have never used a recovery drink other than chocolate milk and/or Slim fast or maybe something they give out at races.

So they are probably pretty sound products but most of us already had our favorites long before Gatorade came out with Perform 1 and 3. And yes, back to your original question, yes it does help me on the run.

enjoy,
Duane

I've tried the Gatorade Recovery drink and, imo, it tasted AWFUL. More importantly, it didn't work (FOR ME) as well as the Beachbody Results and Recovery Formula, which also tastes much better.

I acclimated to Lemon-Lime Gatorade, because it was used at my first marathon.

You need to experiment to see what works best for you and what you are willing to carry.

After a long walk/run my body is depleted.

So Yes, I can tell the difference.
I have found if I do not use a recovery drink of some kind I struggle to keep moving, not as active, want to nap, or I am just tired the rest of the day.

After the shorter walks I just use the Lemon-Lime Gatorade 02 Performance,
because that is what I have. I do not care for the other flavors, but would get used to them if that is what they gave us at races...I do not like carrying everything.

After my longer walks 10-miles plus I use PowerBar Recovery-
I have not tried the Gatorade Recovery-but I will :goodvibes

Just to throw another confusing one out there (Gatorade's marketing team really botched this new naming system) - I use the G Series Pro 02 drink mix for all of my longer rides/runs (anything longer than an hour), as well as if it's really hot (which has been pretty much all summer here). The G Series Pro series is formerly known as the Gatorade Endurance series (which essentially has more salt and potassium, which definitely helps if you have issues with cramping, than the original Gatorade now known simply as the G Series). GNC carries the complete line of G Series Pro products (01-prime, 02-perform, 03-recover) and they are currently on sale for buy one, get one free (in-store only thru 8/31/10). The G Series Pro 02 drink now comes in their yummy fruit punch flavor (as well as the original lemon-lime and orange). I highly recommend it!

A big deal too with the new gatorade formulation is that they have gone away from using HFCS and are now sweetening their premade product with sucrose syrup.

I tried the G1, G2, and G3. I will use them again but mainly for long runs. I wouldn't they taste great, but it's tolerable. I am prone to stuff bothering my stomach and didn't have any problems. I have split the G1 and G3 in half and found that worked too on some smaller runs when I was testing them. I think they did make a difference. As someone said it's personal preference and something that works for one may not work for someone else. I have only been able to find at my luck mom and pop type grocery stores. I recommend trying it and seeing what you think if you can find it.

I am trying G1 before my 9 mile tomorrow morning. Here's to hoping I don't get stomach upset.

Walmart actually has a set with a 32oz G water bottle and 8 quart drink mix packets for $5. Don't know if it's a back to school thing or what...now if those suckers hit clearance I'm picking up as many as I can get..

Thanks for the tip on GNC. I went out and bought two containers of the Pro 2. Went with the Pro this time due to the extra carbs and electrolytes. At $35 a container I need the 2 for 1. I buy the powder because it ends up being cheaper.

enjoy,
Duane

Only thing I noticed about the G series 02 Perform (There's a mouthful!) is that they decreased the size of the bottle from 20 oz to 16.9. Nice way to hide an effective price increase, probably. (Will check next time I buy from Costco)

I looked at the Recovery drink, but $1.99/bottle is more than I will try--although I think I have a coupon..... I'll stick with chocolate milk.
