We are going to Gatlinburgh first week of August (cancelled Panama City due to oil) - we have never been there - anyone have any suggestions on cabin rentals, things to do and places to eat? :cool1:

Thank you in advance for any help !!

I rented a cabin from Uncle Buds Cabins. I found them on TripAdvisor.
The rental process was easy. My cabin was called Bearadise and was very
nice. They have pictures and videos of each cabin on their site. There are several others if you poke around online. Good luck!

We love going to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge, and usually go at least once a year or so. The last time we rented a cabin in Gatlinburg, we stayed in a community called The Falls of Gatlinburg. It was really nice!

As far as what to do and see...
We love going to a place called Cade's Cove that's about 30 minutes or so from Gatlinburg. There is a loop that you can drive around and see tons of wild animals. They also have some very old historic buildings--barns, houses, churches, etc. that you can go through. The best part is that it's free and provides some beautiful scenery.

There is Dollywood and Dollywood's Splash County in Pigeon Forge, along with tons of go-karts and putt-putt places as well, if you interested in that kind of thing.

There's also Ober Gatlinburg. Even though the ski slopes won't be open, I believe there is an indoor ice skating rink that may be fun for you.

For places to eat, there are a couple that I can recommend. The Apple Barn in Pigeon Forge is really, really good. You get a ton of food and it is so yummy! We ate at the Cherokee Grill in Gatlinburg on our last trip and had some really good steaks. It is a little pricey though.

If you're into shopping there's a ton of outlet malls right outside of Pigeon Forge.

The thing that we love most about visiting that area is that it's so laid back and relaxing.

I hope this helps!

We stayed at Legacy Mountain Resort last year and loved it. a little pricey but worth every penny. Great views and great location

I love Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge!

I usually use my parent's timeshare but I rented a cabin once from www.cabinfevervacations.com. The cabin was nice but the check-in people weren't very friendly.

My favorite places to eat are:

The Old Mill
AppleWood (especially for breakfast, they give you apple fritters and apple butter)
The Peddler Steakhouse (Also enjoyed the Alamo steakhouse)
Huck Finn's Catfish (all you can eat fried chicken and/or catfish with all you can eat sides for a reasonable price [if I remember correctly around $15])

There's so many places to eat (especially pancake houses) that you will certainly not be at a loss for places to eat.

Lots of heavily themed mini-golf that is fun (and can be costly).

LOVE Dollywood (as long as you don't even try to compare it to WDW).

There's a section in downtown Gatlinburg called "The Village" that has a very cute, "off the road" feel with a candy shop where you can watch them make taffy.

The Boyds Bear place is cute as well as the Christmas shop.

Right there with you OP. I find planning for Gatlinburg much more overwhelming than Disney any day. There are so many rental cabins available that I am completely befuddled!

My inlaws just bought a cabin in Pigeon Forge 1.5 miles from the entrance to Dollywood. It's in a nice resort with a pool. I can PM you a link to the rental company if you'd like. It's 2 bedroom (king beds) with a pullout sofa & 2 1/2 baths. We stayed there for a weekend last month & it's really nice.

Just a warning... there is one company named Fontaine Cabin Rentals, that closed their doors in the past couple of weeks and people have lost their money and are very upset about it. The information about this is on tripadvisor.com.

For our last trip in March we stayed with Diamond Mountain Rentals. Very nice cabin / chalet for a very reasonable price.

We always have to eat at the Log Cabin Pancake House. There is one in Pigeon Forge and one in Gatlinburg on Airport Road. Yummy!!

The Aquarium there is great. Dixie Stampede is fun if you like dinner shows.

Traffic can be horrible sometimes. Pick up the local coupon books and they have maps in them that can help you take alternative roads.

motocrossmom ...

Gatlinburg in the Smoky Mountains is a great place to visit -- you'll have a great time. Just parking the car and walking around downtown Gatlinburg is fun -- and not too expensive, depending on how much ice cream you eat.

Regarding cabin rentals, things to do, and places to eat:

Do all of the cabin rentals charge reservation and cleaning fees?

OP - did you find a cabin? I've been searching for days and find the number of rental properties overwhelming. Just when I think that I have found the perfect one - there's something missing that I would like to have. I also find that although the reviews are helpful, they can also turn me off from a house. Like when they say that there were bees or wasps "swarming", or dead bugs on the floor - but then the next person comments on how clean it was, etc. Sounds like each renter's experience is different depending on their expectations, weather, time of the year, etc. I also found that some of the rentals that do not have less than perfect reviews are due more to personal preferences rather than cleanliness issues or the condition of the property.

Also, I know that this is a long shot but - for those of you that have been looking for cabin rentals - do you remember seeing a house that had a shower with jets in it? There was a picture of the shower and it looked liked there were jets coming down the sides. I've looked at so many places that I don't know if it was in Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge or Sevierville or how many rooms were in the house.

I have not booked yet...My sister's insistence on pool access really is cutting the options down drastically. Heartland Rentals had some that looked promising but I can find NO reviews of them online so I'm hesitant.

We haven't been to Gatlinburg for 8 years and it seems like Pigeon Forge has really built up. The cabin rentals have totally confused me, what about a nice hotel? The one we stayed at before was really dirty last time and it's probably changed since then. We are planning to do Dollywood and the Aquarium and a little shopping so either Gatlnburg or Pigeon Forge would be okay. We checked out last time (the hot tub had algae in it and the pool was filthy) and went to a new hotel that was on the edge of Sevierville.

We rented from Majestic Mountion vactions. Lovely 3bed 3bath with lots of extra's. It was nice but I don't think there was a pool. However we didn't swim anyway. Although you could get dollywood txts with waterpark included. Lots of Go cart tracks and they have a Wonderworks down there. Went to cades cove and took a hay ride. However they need to have at least 10 people so if someone else is waiting you can go with them. Ask for "porkchop" very informed on the area. What ever you do avoid Grand Crowne Resort timeshare speil not high pressure until you want to leave.

Hope you have a great vacation. Also remember you can buy a all day trolly pass from the sugerlands visitor ceter. Have fun.

Sherwood Forest doesn't have a cabin that will fit us with availability. Really wanted to stay there though.

We spent the 4th of July weekend in Pigeon Forge and rented a cabin from the owners through www.vrbo.com. We also looked at some on www.homeaway.com.

As for things to do, we took DD (4) rafting for the first time on the lower Pigeon river and she had a blast.
