We live there. It is funny to us how many people love this place and pour in here all year. We get bored to tears here. But to each his own and all the tourists support our town so I guess it's good everyone likes it here. We do love the smoky mtns. they are beautiful! :goodvibes It's the airbrush t-shirt shops that we don't care for.

Not to hijack this thread, but would early June be a good time to go--crowdwise? Also, is there stuff for younger kids (ages five and six)? I've been twice, but only as an adult and it was many years before my kids were born.

We like to stay in Gatlinburg and take the short trip to Pigeon Forge. In Gatlinburg you can walk everywhere on sidewalks etc. Pigeon Forge is very spread out and you can drive and walk etc. Pigeon Forge has many amusement type things like go cart rides etc. There is one park called the Track that has a park just for the little ones. ALso there are a lot of free things in the mountains. Water falls, Cades Cove (Pioneer settlement), the mountain streams and several trails etc. We love GATLINBURG and Pigeon Forge. Dollywood, Dixie Stampede, many types of music shows etc. Of course in the spring and summer months prices do increase as does the amount of traffic. Cherokee is over the mountains to the south and the Harrahs Casino is there. Also there is a town called Townsend where the weekly series Christy was filmed. Unfortunately you cannot go to the location as the owners will not allow it, but it is a little town and there are some caves there called Tuckaleechee, it is a very good walk through. :sunny:

I used to live in Townsend. A wonderful little town. Tuckaleechee Caverns is a cool day trip! I live in Maryville now.

We usually visit Gatlinburg during the Thanksgiving week and know that right after Thanksgiving the traffic gets heavier. But this year we went during the week after Christmas and I would never go there again between Christmas and New Years. The traffic was terrible everywhere. It took us 2 1/2 hours to drive from Sevierville to Gatlinburg when we arrived the Tuesday after Christmas at 3 in the afternoon(should have been a 30 minute drive). Later that week it took us 45 minutes to drive through Gatlinburg which is only 4-6 small blocks long. We drove to Cades Cove and barely went over 10 mph the whole time. There was just too much traffic for the small area.

Has anyone stayed at Park Tower Inn or Econolodge Riverside (both are in Pigeon Forge)? I want to make my reservations soon & can't decide.
