Gastric bypass?

I am going with my friend in May to Disney and she just had this surgery. I really want to go to many sit down restaurants but she won't really be able to eat very much. Will we be allowed to share without anyone giving us any hassle? The worst is the buffets, we are skipping all of them (even my fave O'hana) because it is pointless for her since she cant have very much. Anyone have experience going with someone with Gastric bypass?

would you mind if I brought this to the wish board.....some one over there may be able to help you that already have had the surgury?

Hi! I have not had the surgery, so I can't speak to that, but as long as you aren't on the dining plan, I don't think sharing would be a huge issue. In January, DH and I went to Rose and Crown and shared everything and no one batted an eyelash.

You should be able to share with no problems.

My sister had this surgery a few years ago. Everyone is different and your friend may not be able to eat certain things without "dumping" (aka getting sick). So, she may be restricted as to what she can safely eat as well as how much she could eat. As I understand it, everyone is different. She may want to order an appetizer or just a side dish instead of limiting what you order.

I had Gastric bypass in February and have been to Disney twice since then. The first time was 2 months after my surgery - I was still in the beginning stages, so I ate mostly tuna I had brought from home.
The second time was in September - my diet is "normal" now, so I was able to eat at the restaurants -
No one minds if you share!
Definitely stay away from buffets because they're just a pain!
I had to do a few buffets this last time and I hated wasting so much money.
Other than that, look at the menus on all ears and try not to pick places that only have fried protein.
Chicken fingers and fries are not your friend after the surgery. ;)
With most of WDW being health conscious, you can find something suitable just about anywhere.
And still have room for a few bites of everyone's favorite Disney dessert. :)

I remember reading once on these boards that if you have a note from the doctor they will allow you to order off the childrens menu.

I have ordered off of the children's menu when I was not starving to eat. I have never had a problem. I think at the CS places you are fine, but I can see a problem at the sit down places.

Your best bet might be to have your ref. stocked with foods she can eat, and just go back to the room to eat your big meals. This way their is no temptation. just an idea, but since Disney does shop for their guests it would make things early :goodvibes :goodvibes

I do not know anyone who has had gastic bypass surgery, but perhaps this website will help you (and her) preview some of the options that the restaurants have for you.

Best of luck! :)

My mom had gastric bypass and when she travels to wdw with us or we go out to dinner at home, she will either split with one of us or order an appitizer or something small. Even when my mom isnt with us my sister and i usually split something unless she wants a cheeseburger then i just eat off the kids menu because i can get a roll up sandwich at the cheeseburger places(not a big fan of burgers, hotdogs and fries. Something my sister loves). If you are on the dining plan she will have to have her own meals but there is always smaller and healthier meal options at most places. Hope this helps
