I am sure this question has been asked before but I would like some clarification if possible. I have recently had this surgery and will be returning to Disney in Feb. Can anyone tell me which eateries/restaurants that will allow me to eat from the childrens' menu? I would like specific examples if possible. Also, could I just call the WDW DINE number and ask them? Thanks in advance for all your help!!

I have no experience really in what you are asking but we are going in Feb with our 18mo and I've been looking at the childrens menus at wdwig.com. They pretty much all consist of mac and cheese, grilled cheese, hamburger, hotdog, chicken strips. NOt sure what your food preference are but a few meals of this fare is fine but not a Disney dining experience! I would assume if you told your server at a sit down that you are unable to eat a full portion is it possible to get a half portion they would try their best to accomodate you. Some things are not really able to make smaller like a steak or chicken breast. I would call the wdwdine # and inquire if there is a special way of going about this, I've heard others with other dietary restrictions doing advanced meal prep. If you're odering at counter service, no one's going to know the kids meal is for you.

Honestly, part of the new lifestyle that you now living is behavioral and you have to learn to draw a line in the sand or line across your plate and say 'this amount of food is not healthy for me and I'm just not going to eat it' and then leave it on your plate. The portions served at most every place are not healthy for any person to eat.

Good luck and have fun!!

I'm on Weight Watchers and someone said you can ask for a 1/2 portion of many entrees...why waste the food and money. my husband and I plan on splitting all of our main meals which means he can have more room for snacks which is great with him! you probably could ask about the 1/2 portions policy when you make yur PS and then plan accordingly!

Yes, you can ask for a alf portion in a lot of the restaurants.

For the most part the foods served on the childrens menu are not going to be good for you, and will likely make you ill (high in fats).

Instead you might want to order either a half portion of an entree (which is still going to be more than you can eat in most cases), or perhaps just an appetizer.

Some of the restaurants are particularly known for their excellent appetizers, including Jiko, the California Grill, mama Melroses, and Narcooses.

It is my understanding that it's case by case at the buffets, I would simply steer clear of them. If you go to a character meal you will be charged as an adult regardless of what you eat, unless you eat nothing, so I would not bother with them.

Good luck in your new way of life.

I'm in the same (gastric bypass) boat. I was told that the restaurants will honor any request, and if you have problems like the dumping syndrome from sugar, they will tell you which dishes are completely sugar free.

Ordering a 1/2 portion or something from the appetizer menu will make you happy. The children's menus are very bland and high in carbs.

Good luck!

Thanks for all of your help!! I knew someone here would be able to help me. The half order thing sounds great, I wasn't that impressed with what few childrens' menu items we encountered during our Feb stay. I can always share an entree with my children too!!

Thanks Again!!!

We are going in sep and I called and spoke to John in guest relations and he took the time to call 20 different restaurants and they will be more than happy to accommodate those of us who have had this surgery. For the buffets I was informed that they woudl charge us a "salad bar" fee. I can eat no more than 2 ounces at a time.
I was also told to have them note the PS's when I make them and then when I check in to alert them of this fact as well. I am also supposed to show my card that I received from the surgeons.
