Gas prices and Katrina

Gas was $2.56/gallon last night when I filled up. This morning it was $3.50. At lunch it topped $4/gallon and limiting people to 30 gallons a purchase. I leave for Orlando on Friday - hope the prices are better along the way...

Thanks for the info in GA! We are trying to find info on the net about where we'll be able to get gas on the way down. We are leaving friday and the plan now is that keep our tank above 1/2 at all times then we aren't getting more then 10 gallons at each fill up. It means more stops but with three little ones we'll be making lots of stops anyways.

Gas yesterday was $2.85.. Today it is $3.11!

Sounds like one of our stations. $2.84 this morning. $3.11 this afternoon.

Ours are getting ready to hit $3 tomorrow....$2.99 tonight...

citgo a 2.59.9 yesterday today 2.91.9 same gas in tank as yesterday .went and asked when the last delivery was it was before hurricane so they had not even paid the new wholesale price .just trying to rob us consumers . :badpc: to the oil companies :badpc:

It just went up again...to 3.12/gallon. The gas station said it will be 5.26/gallon by Saturday.. :earseek:

News reported that pipelines are running at 25% now. Pumps in Mississippi were off and needing to pump crude from La. to Georgia was off for three days. Long lines at the pump last night and some gas stations running out. Gas is hovering at $3.10 in metro Atlanta area now. Price gouging had some stations selling for over $5/gallon before the governor stepped in to prosecute those for price gouging.

Will report what it is like tomorrow for those like me who are traveling down to WDW for Labor day weekend. We have prepayed for the Magic Your Way plus dining for 9/2-9/8. Hope to have no trouble getting down.

Today gas prices at the same stations hover around $2.70 to $2.80 but I saw one place that had gas for $2.92!

Well it happend today they are hovering around $3.00 a galon! Most places are around $3.00 but I seen some as hight as $3.27. Toped off our cars last night at $2.72 a gallon today the same station was selling gas at $3.07 a gallon. Starting Tuesday DH and I are going to ride to work together till this blows over or we are able to win the lottery.

Gas in my area is already at $3.25. It was $2.74 yesterday morning and by lunch time is had gone up to $3.25. I try not to complain considering people have lost their homes....but for those of us on a budget it is tough!

by these gas prices and gas stations upping their prices. Okay, so the pipelines are at 25% capacity, I had heard 40% last night (on the news) or else 40% was currently not working. Also, the total amount of refined oil that the coastal oil production provides is 17% of consumer use (source = DH = current events and world specialist). So... what is the math with that folks? Correct me if I am wrong.

Assuming 25% capacity, that means 75% is down.

.17*.75 = .1275

So that means we are only 12.75% down on production? The way everyone is talking is sounds like we will never have gas again!

Again, feel free to flame and correct! :flower:

Okay I am revising based on another thread and one of the posters that works in the industry. 20% of our usage is from the region, not 17%, and 20% working status at this point. 80% below capacity production.

.80*.20 = 16% down on production. Is that right? Why the panics then? I understand the situation in the gulf region, but here in the NE?

What am I missing?

on my way home from work I got gas for 2.69. This morning same station 3.20

Trying not to complain too much but starting to worry since i drive 1 hour each way to work. :moped:

Luckily I filled my tank on Tuesday for $2.55/gallon. Yesterday morning on my way to work the station was posted at $2.65... on my way home from work it was $3.15! :scared1:

Someone is laughing all the way to the bank... and I know it's not me

Here's the latest release from Colonial Pipeline...as you can see, they have exceeded expectations and should be at 60% by the end of TODAY. Now if everyone stops panicing, things will be fine people.

Thanks for the info. There should be some glimmer of hope in sight. I did fill up yesterday just to be safe. Paid $2.89 and right across the street is was $3.15. Can you believe there were actually 2 cars over there???? Hello, cross the street!!!

Last night our gas here in Pa (I live 100 miles NE of Pittsburgh) was $2.79 this morning gas went up to $2.99 and when I went back home 2 hours later it went up to $3.19!!!!!!!!!! I guess now is better than ever to get some excercise and start walking or riding a bike!! :moped:

Yesterday gas in my area was $2.99, today it is $3.49. Several days ago it was $2.57 and a few days before that it was $235. You're right - heating for the winter will be ugly. I think we're headed straight for a recession.

More news out of Orlando...confirming all the email rumors sparking panic. Florida officials say they are not running out of gas....as long as people don't panic and hoarde it.

Of course, remember...if everyone rushes to the pumps at ANY time, stations will run out whether there is a shortage or not....they only get so many deliveries per week.

Please, people, go to www.congress.org, find your senators and congressmen, and send them an e-mail about this. The more the better. There is no question that they are gouging-they have not purchased the fuel yet, and they're already raising the gas prices! And on RUMORS! On top of that, news that Bush is releasing reserves DIDN"T LOWER PRICES! If they can go up on news only, they should go down on news only! Also write your governor and ask for caps! Something's gotta give!

I just got an e-mail from a AAA employee in FL who reported another employee seeing a tanker filling the tanks at a gas station but the owner was not removing the plastic bags over the pumps. When the AAA employee stopped to ask why, the owner said he was waiting until the price goes up. I know I would never buy gas from that station even when things settle down.

I just filled up at our local Citgo. Reg Unleaded was 2.49 per gallon. Across the street at the Pilot Truckstop it was 2.89 If this isn't price gouging I don't know what is!

I heard on the radio that sometimes gas stations have to charge more because of the way they pay for the gas. Some stations pay for their last gas delivery during the next gas delivery. If a gas station gets a load of gas once a week and gets a load today they will not have to pay for the gas until next week. By the time the next delivery comes they have the money to pay for the last load and they don't have to increase their price as fast.

Other gas stations have to pay for the loads of gas COD. They have to pay for the load they get today. They don't have time to recoup any of the money before they pay for the load so they have to recoup the money faster.

It also depends on when the gas stations get their shipments of gas. One gas station may get their gas shipment on Monday. The gas station across the street gets their shipment on Wednesday. The way gas is going up the gas station who got the shipment on Wednesday is going to have to charge more than the gas station that got the shipment on Monday.

From what I heard gas stations only make an average of 10 cents a gallon on gas, and get loads of 20,000 of gas at a time. It can be a lot of money for a small gas station to front if they have to pay COD.

I'm not saying there isn't any price gouging. I'm sure it happens far too often. I hoped I explained that right. :confused3

My local news just said that the school district has only a 10 day supply left for the buses. We are among 11 counties in FL where the school districts were running out, and that has nothing to do with people panicing & horarding gas. The suppliers cannot get the gas since the pipeline is down. Therefore, they cannot deliver it to us. I haven't read the article that is posted here yet. I am going by what my 6:00 news said & Disney when I called to cancel my ressie for this weekend. The CM is the one that told me about the pipeline & the tankers. My news also said that the stations that are running out of gas here do not know when a delivery will arrive. They also said this morning that they may have to divert some of our supply that is to come to us to the military.....
...just since trying to post this, my neighbor had called & asked if I knew of anyone that had gas..she can't find one.... :sad2: :sad2:
