Gas prices and Katrina

No, I just think its ironic that the same people who voted for this moron are now complaining. People were complaining about Bush earlier in the thread so I did'nt bring it up I just put my two cents in about Bush. Two of the worst events in our history have happened during his presidency. Just something to think about!!! :umbrella:

Ahhh. I didn't read all of the posts on this board.

I have to say though, I really haven't seen any president really make changes around this country (with the exception of what is in the history books). I have learned not to put my trust in any of 'em. Seem to be a bunch of richies just getting richer while us middle classers are bearing the burden.

Here's some interesting info from my town (technically it's a city, but not anywhere near the size of NY or Boston, so I'm going to call it a town for now). Not my state, but the town.

Between my husband and I, we passed 8 gas stations since yesterday morning. Prices are:
$3.03
$3.09
$3.15
$3.23
$3.29
$3.39

The stations that were $3.03 and $3.09 are the stations which were always the highest in the area...until this week. Now the stations that were the least expensive, are at least 10 cents higher than the others. Can you say "Price Gouging"?

In other news, the Plantation pipeline to Charlotte has now been restored to full capacity and the Colonial pipeline will be at 85% by the weekend.

Why is that "something to think about"? Are you saying that 9/11 and the hurricane are Bush's fault?? :confused3

This just in, as of midnight tonight, the Governor of Georgia has suspended the gas tax....that will wipe 15 cents off the cost of a gallon. Which means if everyone in the state doesn't drop their prices by 15 cents, then the government will KNOW they're gouging....

And Gasoline Spot Market prices have dropped 26 cents today. Prices on my way in to work were between $2.95 and $3.27 (most were in the 3.04/3.05 range). They should not stay this high.

And with the aforementioned pipelines coming back online, supply fears should ease.

Now.. If they can get some of the big refineries back online....

I just read that and was coming to post. Now, let's see if stations really drop their prices. I'll let ya know after tomorrow.

I'm waiting to hear for certain, but this may be happening in MA too. Governor Romney was scheduled to hold a press conference at 1:00 to discuss the gas prices and from another report that I'd read, he had changed his stance on suspending the gas tax (21 cents) and said he would sign it into effect.

And I think it's *&^%)*& that you are whining about the price of gas when there are people in New Orleans who have no home, food, clothing, jobs, etc.

I don't know where 10% of my friends in New Orleans are. And all you can think about is that you may have to pay an extra $10-20 to fill up your tank because of this disaster.

Put it into perspective.

I haven't been complaining about the gas prices, but I just wanted to say that just because people are complaining about gas prices doesn't mean that they don't care about the people who are victims of this disaster. I plan on donating money to try to help some people out because I can't do anything else at this time. I think that it is possible for people to be both upset about prices and feel really bad about the circumstances that these people are under. I think that people should be able to speak their minds about the things and not feel bad about it.

Prices are coming down in our area. They went from 3.09 this morning down to 2.89 and some even 2.79.

Okay - putting on my flame proof suit here :firefight

Have faith in a government that has done nothing to adopt a real comprehensive energy policy and has done nothing but help line the pockets of the big oil companies ?

I guess what I'm trying to say is that we as citizens have to help ourselves and not rely on our government, most of them haven't a clue what it's like out here in the real world. We've all got to make a conscious effort to stop being such gluttens with our natural resources. And, no, I'm not one of those tree huggers, but it concerns me that we all just keep using and not thinking about the consequences. Not saying I'm perfect here either but if our children continue to see us doing this what will be THEIR incentive when they get older ?

Said my 2 cents - hope I didn't offend anyone :wizard:

I couldn't have said it better myself. I also thought about Nascar - what a gas guzzlin' waste of resources.

Wish I could say the same. They went up from $3.15 to $3.39 at the station near us today...after the Governor said that he would approve suppressing the 21 cent gas tax in this state. And I've been told that's not gouging. Sure seems like a ripoff to me.

Well said, Pongopergirl.

I have certainly complained. But it isn't the extra money that infuriates me... if these were justified increases I would accept them as an unfortuante side effect of the overwhelming tragedy occuring to the people of NO. But given the speed with which these enormous increasese were implemented, I can't help believing this is an absolutely appalling display of price gauging. It sickens me to imagine people looking to make a buck from the misery and suffering of others.

No, obviously a hurricane is a natural disaster but the response to it has been nothing short of criminal. We should have national guard, food, water, the bare necessities there within 24 hours not weeks. I almost feel like Iraq is getting better treatment of its people than New Orleans. What I'm saying is that he is either a very unlucky president or it's some sort of a conspiracy. Just way too much weirdness going in America than ever before and hes the president. I am a Democrat but I would question any president with this kind of track record. In times of desperation people look to the president for leadership and hes fallen flat on his face. Just my two cents!!!

I feel your pain and I'm sorry that we are discussing gas prices when lives have been lost. At the sametime I have given to Red Cross and my heart goes out to a city that is in total devastation. Hopefully, somebody at the highest level of government will step up and do the right thing.

More good news! Keep it coming! Posts like this are better than Xanax!!!

I think that alternate heating sources such as wood stoves and kerosene heaters will become very popular this winter.
