Gas price increase tonight question

Leave the keys in it hoping it get's stolen and somebody has to fuel it. I remember reading years ago the top stolen vehicles and I think it was either the Camry or Accord that topped the list. I bet the Hybrid will be a popular theft now.

I'm sure I'll be flamed on this but we put ourselves in this situation for more than 1 reason. Number 1 is the SUV revolution. Who the heck did we think we were building Hummers and huge gas guzzlers? I watched a guy on Conan last night that said if Americans wanna drive Hummers and act like G.I. Joe then it should be fair game to take a few bullets.

The 2nd reason of course is because we haven't drilled our own oil yet. At least not a significant amount because we got it so cheap in the mideast. Our oil from Alaska goes to Japan because it sells for higher than we can sell it here. Duh!!! Let's help every other country who either has, wants to or will someday attack us. We learned nothing from the 70's oil crisis.

The reason China is using so much crude now is because they have a better economy because we buy their exports. They have no environmental guidelines to follow. We need to start putting a tariff on all imported goods. We've sent thousands upon thousands of jobs overseas in the name of savings and profit margins. I say we let others worry about themselves and we bring it back here and make it at home. How many manufacturing jobs will be lost before we lose it all to others? Everybody says you can't go wrong getting into computers. How many damned computer jobs can be made? Sorry for venting but it makes me mad to see our country struggling because we help others out. How many countries do you think are worried about us tonight? If they are it's because we won't be buying a ton from them because our economy sucks. I know it won't be long before our savior Barak will part the skies and save us all so hang tight.

What really surprises me is that you don't hear too much of people syphoning gas to fill up their own tanks. I remember a lot of that being done during the gas wars of the 70's.

The "nervousness" hasn't set in too much here YET! Of course, the Floridian mindset & style trends are about 3 months behind New York!

I'm old enough to remember the gas shortages of the 70's and was thinking the same thing because the new truck does not have the locking gas fill cover like the old truck. I was told by a mechanic friend that the new cars and trucks have a ball float in the bottom of the filler spout that is supposed to eliminate gas spilling out if the car is flipped in an accident. This device makes it nearly impossible to siphon the old fashion way. They'll resort to punching a hole in the tank now.

Preach on Brother Donnie!!! You da man! How many TRILLIONS of dollars have we sent to other countries to help them out? When our economy really tanks, think any of them are gonna come to our aid? HELL NO!

The big thing that is happening around here, thieves are going under cars at night and cutting the catalytic converters off, they are worth up to $300 as scrap!

I leave the keys in my truck too, and the windows down, and a sign that says it is free, and has a full tank of fuel for their getaway!! Still in my driveway, and no takers yet.... LOL

by the way, to save my little or no stature here on the board, the local tv news recanted their story and apologized on the morning show...they said they reported it backwards...and to think i listened to them after all the hype and fear mongering they did during the hurricanes...i guess i am just too pig-headed!

I wish the tree huggers would listen to reason and let them drill in the northern parts of our territories. Fox had a story on a couple of weeks ago that they have found (under a lake) a huge reserve of oil, more than Saudi Arabia's. The problem is that they only now have the technology to get to it, without destroying the lake. I am not condoning destroying the environment, but drilling offshore should be a priority as well. Hell, China is drilling off our shores in international waters right off Florida. Great countries sustain themselves.

I am afraid you are right. Down here in South Florida, we are having a huge increase in mall crime. I won't go to the mall without another adult now because they are praying on mothers with children because they know that they are distracted by the youngins'.

My SIL just rented a garage at her apartment complex because she came out one evening to walk the dogs and saw someone doing just that. It actually is making the news quite a bit here in the Minneapolis/St Paul area.

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. But in the case of a Lake Elmo man, imitation earned him only a spot on the criminal-court docket.

Timothy D. Emert, 45, has been charged with possession of burglary tools, a felony, after he was caught allegedly trying to use a hose-and-pump contraption to steal gasoline from an underground storage tank at a BP station at 1785 Suburban Av. in St. Paul.

Emert told police he got the idea to steal gas from the tank when he heard it on a TV news show, according to the complaint filed in Ramsey County District Court.

The complaint said police were sent to the BP station about 7 a.m. May 22 and found Emert's van parked over one of the station's underground tanks with a hose running to the tank. Emert told an officer that he was trying to take gas from the tank but couldn't prime his pump. Inside the van, an officer saw a concealed 12-volt pump wired to a 12-volt battery. A clear hose went to a copper pipe then into a gas can, which was nearly full of gas, the complaint said.

Seven containers in Emert's van contained a total of about 15 gallons of gas, the complaint said. Police also found a pipe in the van used to smoke methamphetamine.

The officer also noted that Emert was smoking while he was siphoning the gas, the complaint said.

Emert may have been imitating a North Oaks man who allegedly devised an elaborate system of hoses and switches that allowed him to siphon gas from other vehicles into his own, all from the comfort of his driver's seat. Chad Storey, 34, was charged in Ramsey County District Court in March with possession of burglary tools. His next court appearance is June 11.

I took my boys to swim lessons yesterday, one one corner was a station at $3.74 for regular unleaded, and the other corner had $3.89. Now they are all at $3.89 - I knew I should have filled yesterday

I was out running errands at 9:00 a.m. this morning and it was 3.89 per gallon. When I had to go out again at 1:00 to the hardware store, it had jumped to 4.01 per gallon.

I'm not a frequent poster, but I do lurk daily and enjoy everyones comradery here on the camping forum. I wanted to say that I drive a H3x Hummer---which for those of you who aren't familar it is a smaller version of the Hummer. It gets around 17mpg. Not good but better than our F350 diesel dually which on a good day only gets around 15mpg. Does it hurt to fill up our vehicles? Yes, of course it does but we are supporting OUR COUNTRY and not some foreign country by purchasing something cheaper and more fuel efficient. We've made many sacrifices in our day to day lives plus we gave up a trip to the fort this past January. My husband is a retired American Automaker and we know how important the sale of U.S. made vehicles are---our monthly retirement checks and benefits are at stake. My Hummer is one of the things I'm willing to sacrifice for. I hope our automakers can get their act together and start producing something with efficiency like those imports. For now---I proudly drive my gas guzzling American made vehicles.

Our gas just went up 10 cents a litre. We're paying 1.419 a litre here in BC, Canada.

That works out to 5.37 a gallon. And they say that it will go up another 10 cents a litre in July with the new carbon tax they are implimenting.

drafthoursecrazy, i don't think you are going to get flamed...i think donnie was trying to make a point generally...however...

i try to buy american cars and trucks and feel obligated to do so...dh doesn't quite agree, so i let him have his truck, which is not american but built here in the states...

i have not been impressed at all with toyota's leasing plans, and our last lease with them will be the one we presently have..we went down in size in trucks to save on gas...we will be returning to american made cars and trucks

i know the american public is part of the blame for this problem, and the greed of other countries is another...we have to build more refineries (last one built in 1970's) and find our own oil and other resources...we could have had the hydrogen technology finalized years ago, but there wasn't really a push because the price of gasoline wasn't outrageous. it is really sad that the monies for the research couldn't have been used for hydrogen so that we wouldn't now be in the pinch we are relying on people who are producing less and less oil for a bigger profit...i am all for supply and demand, but artificially creating such is wrong in my opinion

by the way, if i could afford one, i would have a hummer!

i filled up my jeep wrangler for $3.98 for regular today...it hurt...not as much as filling up the mh with diesel, but still hurt

i paid 3.81 last night. When I drove by this morning, it was 3.83. This afternoon it was 3.89. Just creeping on up.

Actually Susan.... that's not bad at all. I drive a 1997 Ford Explorer V-8 & get 17mph around town & 20-21 on the hwy. I bought this new in September 96. This has been one HONEY of a truck and I will continue driving it until the wheels fall off. Heck, it only has 152K miles on it & is just now getting broken in! Knocking on wood here, I have never done anything but regular maintenance to it. Oh yeah, I did have to have one of the power window motors replaced. I figure I can buy A LOT of gas, even at these high prices, for what it will cost to replace "Ol' Red"!!!

I also had a 1999 Merc. Grand Marquis that I bought new in 98. It got 19mpg around town & 22-23 on the hwy. We traded it in on a Lincoln Zephyr (now MKX) in 2006. The Grand Marquis had almost 200K miles on it, and again, we did no major repairs. Heck, neither of the vehicles even burned oil!! American made for me? Yes! Ford Product... oh HELL yes!!!
