A good friend just called and said she and her husband were at a local station with their motorcycle and were told that the there will be a $0.20 per gallon increase overnight tonight. They went back home and got their car and truck to fill up.

Have any of y'all heard this? Surely it's a rumor but just in case...decided I'm going to go fill my gas guzzler tonight as well.

considering that the price of oil plummeted today on the stock market, i would hold off on that...

Oil did drop today then,
NEW YORK (AP) - Oil prices made their biggest single-day leap ever Friday, dragging the Dow Jones industrials down nearly 400 points and raising the once-unthinkable prospect of $150 oil and more record gas prices by the Fourth of July.

The meteoric rise of nearly $11 for the day piled atop an increase of almost $5.50 the day before, taking oil futures more than 13 percent higher in just two days, easily a record on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

And those weren't the only stunning numbers of the day: The government also reported the nation's unemployment rate zoomed to 5.5 percent in May, a monthly rise of half a percentage point, the biggest in 22 years.

Oil settled at $138.54, a rise of more than 8 percent. The surged came after Morgan Stanley (MS) analyst Ole Slorer predicted strong demand in Asia and tight supplies in the Western Hemisphere could drive prices to $150 by Independence Day, when millions of Americans take to the roads.

That means no end in sight for spiraling gas prices, already above $4 per gallon in much of the country.

well, maybe the news reported something wrong...i will have to call them and raise a ruckus...i know i wasn't sleeping through that segment!
i wasn't trying to be a smart alick, i was just telling you what i heard...

A barrel of oil closed at $138.54. Another record high, so fuel prices will most likely go up over night. Diesel will probably be $4.85 to above $5 in some places.

We went ahead and filled up..both were almost on empty so needed to anyway.

A few years ago we were in Wyoming and diesel was $1.99, my husband said we'd never pay that much again. Now would give anything for $1.99 diesel.

I won't go on my soapbox about living in Texas with capped oil supply all around me. I don't understand this.

We are paying $4.29 for regular..and Diesel was $5.19 this week.

I heard the same thing about raising the price some .20 by tomorrow after the record breaking price per barrel today. Only..you gotta wonder..the gas they have in the tanks at the stations is already there..yet they are raising the price that much over night.

We just came home from Downtown Disney and the Hess at WDW is $3.83 for regular. I didn't catch the cost of diesel. BTW... DTD was packed, which is usual for a Friday night, but I didn't see a lot of shopping bags. :confused3

Ghiradelli was giving out these marvelous samples of their newest "delight" - Peanut Butter Chocolate Squares. YUM!!!

That really hurts at $5.19 a gallon. I guess it is only going to get worse. I bought a bottle of Patron Silver this morning 750 ml/.20 gallons for $41.00 which come to $205 a gallon. I am really glad my truck does not run of tequila.:rotfl:

Wow..those prices would be a bargain for us...whoever would have thought that would be the case.

I will tell you...people ARE NOT traveling around here. Not at $4.30 a gallon. Folks are getting VERY nervous with the economy..and now today..another jump in the unemployment figures. It's getting a little scarry. News reported they were rioting in the streets of India because of the gas prices....my husband said we ought to start doing that here. Who knows a .20 cent increase overnight might start pushing people in that direction.:scared1:

What really surprises me is that you don't hear too much of people syphoning gas to fill up their own tanks. I remember a lot of that being done during the gas wars of the 70's.

Things to do: Get locking gas cap for the Explorer!

The "nervousness" hasn't set in too much here YET! Of course, the Floridian mindset & style trends are about 3 months behind New York!:lmao:

Yes, we are just starting to hear stories of syphoning. The gas is higher than yours..so it's only a matter of time.

My son's best friend is Greek, and he was supposed to go to Greece with them this summer..they have family and a home there. Only...they're not going. The dollar is so week..and they are also in the automotive business..and the cars are NOT selling. So..no traveling abroad.

How well I know that!!! That's what DH was doing when he got layed-off last November. He's now working for H.H. Gregg (upscale Best Buy kind of store) and I don't know if that'll be any better. :scared:

Maybe I should start giving offerings to the "Lotto Fairy" instead of the "Tag Fairy".:confused3

They are not siphoning anymore that is to much work. they are just poking holes in the bottom of you gas tank and take what they can and let the rest fall on the ground.

plus I heard that they will steal your kidney, if they drive around with no lights, and Bill Gates gives you $10 for every email address you send this email to a Honda.

I hope someone syphons gas out of your car tonight...trouble maker.

I have a Diesel Silverado. I can't afford to put fuel in it. As a matter of fact, I leave the keys in the ignition, because what poor ******* can afford to fuel it?

Leave the keys in it hoping it get's stolen and somebody has to fuel it. I remember reading years ago the top stolen vehicles and I think it was either the Camry or Accord that topped the list. I bet the Hybrid will be a popular theft now.

I'm sure I'll be flamed on this but we put ourselves in this situation for more than 1 reason. Number 1 is the SUV revolution. Who the heck did we think we were building Hummers and huge gas guzzlers? I watched a guy on Conan last night that said if Americans wanna drive Hummers and act like G.I. Joe then it should be fair game to take a few bullets.

The 2nd reason of course is because we haven't drilled our own oil yet. At least not a significant amount because we got it so cheap in the mideast. Our oil from Alaska goes to Japan because it sells for higher than we can sell it here. Duh!!! Let's help every other country who either has, wants to or will someday attack us. We learned nothing from the 70's oil crisis.

The reason China is using so much crude now is because they have a better economy because we buy their exports. They have no environmental guidelines to follow. We need to start putting a tariff on all imported goods. We've sent thousands upon thousands of jobs overseas in the name of savings and profit margins. I say we let others worry about themselves and we bring it back here and make it at home. How many manufacturing jobs will be lost before we lose it all to others? Everybody says you can't go wrong getting into computers. How many damned computer jobs can be made? Sorry for venting but it makes me mad to see our country struggling because we help others out. How many countries do you think are worried about us tonight? If they are it's because we won't be buying a ton from them because our economy sucks. I know it won't be long before our savior Barak will part the skies and save us all so hang tight. I'm being sarcastic by the way.
