Gas Availability

We are leaving tomorrow to drive to Disney from West Virginia. I am concerned about gas prices and availability in the South. We are not having any problems here, yet, but I would appreciate any reports from anyone in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida, escpecially about gas availability. Are we going to have any trouble getting gas?

So far, so good in Georgia - Atlanta, which had the long gas lines during Katrina, seems to be panicking less this time. Prices are on the rise though - guess we just need to learn to live with that. You should be fine on the interstates and main roads :goodvibes

Filled up the tank this morning at the Hess station across from Downtown Disney ($2.59 gal.) There has been no problem here in the Disney area.

Have a safe journey to Orlando.

There are no gas shortages in South Carolina yet. We did have a price increase yesterday. Gas stations in my area yesterday morning were $2.69 per gallon. By the afternoon, prices increased to $2.95 - $2.99. I just returned from a business trip to Columbia. Gas prices on I-20 were still around $2.69 per gallon.

here in Gainesville (about 90 minutes north of WDW) off I-75 no gas shortages to report. price is about 2.69-2.89/gallon.

Haven't heard anything about shortages/outages anywhere in the area.

Im in NC and our gas is about 2.80 or so a gallon and all the stations around me have gas.

Thanks to the OP and you all who responded! I was just about to post this very same question!

My parents and grandparents drove home from Disney today. They had no problems along 95 or 26 finding gas.

I don't want to scare you, and maybe this might even make the forecast a better one, but the governor here in GA asked counties to close schools on Monday and Tuesday as a conservation measure (gas and electricity)...

Yep, Muscogee County (Columbus,GA) has closed schools for Monday and Tuesday. ARGH! We are leaving NEXT Tuesday, that would have helped us. Gas jumped, thanks to that school closing announcement, twenty cents a gallon here! This is ridiculous! I filled up at 5PM (after hearing about the school closing) and paid $2.75 for midgrade Amoco. THis was by my house at the interstate ramp. Went two exits down the highway, right by the airport, and the Amoco there was $2.85 for regular!

I filled up this afternoon for $2.69/gal. The station was crowded and I had to wait 15 minutes for a pump. This was after I passed 2 stations earlier that were out of regular. But it is nothing like a couple of weeks ago--no panic that I could see. I only went to fill up b/c I was riding on fumes. And from the looks of what was going on at the other pumps around me, most people seemed to be just filling up as usual--no topping off or extra gas cans being filled like last time. Just monitor your personal situation on the way down and be conservative and you should be fine. Have a safe and fun trip!

OP I had the same uncertainess as you are having over labor day weekend. I was very worried about gas availability, as I was traveling alone with my 4 kids ages 10 and under......I just decided to go, and have a great time and if gas were a problem, then we were going to have an adventure! LOL I think it is all in your mindset. I just never let my gas tank get below 1/2 and it eased my worries a lot. Here in Columbus GA, gas has gone up in price, but people do not seem to be panicking as they were (yes I was one of them) after Katrina...............Have a fun trip!
