OMGosh!!! I am going to be a nervous wreck!! Something for me to worry about and fret about over the summer!! ;)

I mean it is good that they feel he could do okay, although I know he obviously won't be able to do the same type of work as the other kids. Apparently a parapro will be with him to ensure it goes well. They said he already goes to gym and music with other classes and is making friends outside his own classroom, so hopefully all will be well.

I'm not so much worried about Garrett. He is such a sweet and caring young man. I hope that the other kids in his class are as nice as he is and that he makes lots of new friends.

{{{HUGS}}} Kristy, I know this is scary for you and your husband. I'll bet Garrett is excited about it, though.

Kristy,
I understand your feelings of apprehension, totally!!! I know Garrett will do great. His sweet personality will shine through and capture the hearts of everyone. :)

Good for you, Garrett!!!!

I am sure he will be fine. How could he not with all the love and support he has. Big hugs to him and you...and PD for a great year next year. Do not spend the entire summer worrying...enjoy!!!

This sounds like a wonderful opportunity for your son. Good luck with the expierence. I am sure that he will do great.

I'm sure he will do great!!!!

As a parapro... (or educational assistant as our district calls them) for special education students... really it will be good for him.

Will he have a one on one aide? Or will be in classes with other special needs students?

For example, I "watch" 13 special needs kids in a non replacement science/humanities classes. None of these students need a one on one.. but part of me wishes I could give them more.. if you know what I mean... I'm always jumping from one student to another, circulating the room...

There are two one on one aides in my school now. The students seem really happy with the arrangement... and the aides are happy as well.

I'm sure Garrett will do great! And the class will have so many benefits from this that couldn't really be taught in a school book.

That's great Kristy!

My understanding is that he will have a 1-1 aide in the classroom. I know he will do okay, and if not, he can always go back to his special needs room.

That is great! Those milestones are setting him on the right path for success. With your support, he will do well.
