GardenGrocer vs. WeGoShop vs. DVC grocery order

Hmmm.....now I am going back and forth on whether I should use Garden Grocer or just go with the resort shop. I really just want to get Diet Soda from a bottle (single serving - yeah I know I am specific), bottled water, juice, skim milk, apples/bananas, yogurt, 1-2 boxes of cereal, bagels and cream cheese.

We've had DVC/Disney deliver to our room before.

What are folks thoughts on that? Do we just go with DVC or go with Garden Grocer?

For something like that, I'd just use the DVC resort service. It sounds like you are not going to be cooking, per se, so no reason to use GG.

We have used Wegoshop5 times and I highly recommend them.
I personally like creating my own grocery list, name the brands and sizes I want. They ask if you will allow substitutions or not. Marge even called me from the store one trip to ask. She lets you choose the store you would like them to shop at, including stores like Sam's Club. You pay the exact cost of the grocery items and she will give you the original receipt. The groceries are not marked up. There is a delivery charge and I always tip.
I always schedule a late afternoon delivery and have had it delivered right to my room. I pay by check, which is not a problem. This way I get them directly and I do not also have to tip Bell Services for delivery them too.
I have been very satisfied with their service and I will use them in the future.

Tell me about purchasing items thru DVC. Can you do this if renting points? and how do you contact them?

:confused3 You can get single bottles of diet soda from Garden Grocer, although in like an 8-pack or something.

The last time we shopped at the SSR store I kid you not we spent over $40 on a 1/2 gal of milk, the smallest of small boxes of butter (two 1/2 size sticks), 2 even smaller packs of cream cheese (I think they were only 3 oz. each), a couple 20 oz bottles of Diet Coke and 3 bottles of Miller Lite. There was one other small item I can't remember now. But I think it was like $42. I had packed some of those individual cereal cups, oatmeal packets and pre-sliced bagels in our luggage. I got a case of water shipped from Costco on that trip.

Our Garden Grocer order for next week includes:
(1) 8 pack of 12 oz bottles of Diet Coke
3 individual cereal cups (for price comparison I usually pay $1 at home & they are $1.29 at GG)
1 box of frozen sausage, egg & cheese Jimmy Dean Biscuit sandwiches
12 oz cream cheese
12 oz margarine
1/2 gal milk
1 package Thomas' pre-sliced plain bagels
1 package Thomas' pre-sliced "everything" bagels
1 large 32 count case if 16.9 oz bottled water
1 24 count case Miller Lite

The food & beer was approx. $67 before tax, gratuity & delivery fee - I am giving a $10 tip (not sure what's appropriate) but so our final total spent is about $92... I hadn't planned on ordering the breakfast sandwiches but the beer didn't count toward the $40 minimum and I was about $3 something short of hitting the minimum so I threw them in to hit the minimum. I am bringing some trail mix & granola bars from home for park snacks. The whole delivery thing is worth it to us to not pay $5.25 PER beer!! There is still a big mark-up on the beer ($26.34 or something with tax) but at least they're only more like $1 each!!:goodvibes I figure we can bring any leftover bagels home with us rather than waste them.

Sorry - should have been more specific but yes I meant like an 8 pack or 8 individual 20oz bottles.

I looked at some of the Garden Grocery prices and they did seem almost similar in price to the DVC resort from what I recalled. So if it was a wash I figured I would just forgo having to have bell services bring up the food and just have DVC/Disney deliver.

When referring to DVC for groceries, there seems to be two different ways of doing it.

1) Pre-ordering groceries from DVC and having them delivered to your room.

2) Shopping in the gift shop in the resort.

Is there a difference in the prices between the two. Does the shop charge more than pre-ordering from DVC?

Is there more selection when pre-ordering from DVC?

How does the pre-ordered DVC prices compare to GG and WeGoShop? I think we have all established that the resort shop is outrageous.

I have consistently bought way more than I needed by using a grocery delivery service.
This is a problem. I've started intentionally under-ordering, and supplement later in the week. I usually have a car, so it's no big deal to pop out for something if the resort store doesn't carry it (or, as in the case of water, charges ridiculous prices). And, I suppose I could shop myself on arrival day, but (a) there's enough going on on a travel day already and (b) I tend to arrive on Saturday, and so it seems does every other timeshare owner in Orlando---those supermarkets are MOBBED on Saturday nights.

I think the DVC order prices are probably in line with the resort stores (my guess) and several items are in line with GG and WeGo. You can preview the individual resort grocery order forms on the member website (under Planning Tools). Yes, there is more selection on the order form than at the property store.

Just glancing at the SSR order form...looks like they really get ya on beverages & paper products. Bottled waters for example...on the SSR form a 1.5 liter of water is $3.50 and a 20 oz. single bottle is $2.50. I am paying $8.99 for an extra large case (32 count) of 16 oz bottles...we all know we can get a 35 count at Costco for $3.50 but this ain't Costco. A 2 liter bottle of Diet Coke is $3.50 so soda carries a hefty markup. A 24 count of paper plates thru SSR is $5.25. I have some packed in our Owners Locker but I know I routinely buy a pack of 120 at Target for under $4. Fruit is priced each ($1.29 per apple; $1.29 per banana etc.). Cream cheese is $2.25 for a 3 oz. block (the "normal" smaller size containers we're used to buying are 8 oz. as are the "normal" block type packages - so this is a fraction of that size). I am paying $3.59 for a 12 oz container at GG....so at SSR it is .75 cents per ounce & at GG it is .29 cents per ounce. But then there are items that are comparable - like milk is nearly the same price. So you'd have to sit down & do a side by side comparison.

The form says groceries will be delivered on day of check-in but not before 5:00 pm. They only charge a $5 fee for this service. I guess the biggest thing for us to use an outside service is to be able to get beer. That is not available thru the onsite delivery services. You have to walk to the Hess station or buy onsite at $5.25 each.

If you are only grabbing a few things & it looks like according to your vacation schedule that you'll be at BWV this year, you might consider just walking over to Hess. It's a very easy walk & the prices are much better than the resort prices. Someone mentioned the DTD Hess & we've also gone there when staying at SSR.

We've also just taken a taxi & the cost of that more than made up for delivery fee & tip. Although we had to do the shopping & lugging the bags up to the villa ourselves, we don't mind & we prefer to pick out what we want & shop for pool toys, souveneirs etc.

This last trip at BLT we did just what Goofy4tink is discussing & that was to pack coffee, filters, etc. & we just picked up a few things like milk, wine, donuts at the Contemporary store. Although it was more than we'd like to pay, it was only a few things so it wasn't too bad.

I used to pack all of our breakfast items & stuff too - oatmeal, bagels, cereal, doughnuts etc. but then we got an Owners Locker after so many airlines started charging to check bags....part of the deal with DH letting me get it (which he now LOVES it too but convincing him too a long time) was that I would pack us in carry-ons more often than not! So something had to give besides toiletries (which we leave in the OL)... For our trip next week I am SO hoping the weather warms up some so I can pack less layers...I really don't want to check a bag...but all I am bringing WITH us is a partial bag of coffee which will be light & the bag will squish in somewhere...and a few small bags of Costco trail mix & a few granola bars to take to the parks as snacks. These items should all fit inside our shoes in our carry-ons.:thumbsup2 Bagels don't fit in shoes so much.:rotfl:

We've been using Garden Grocer for the past 2 years and love it! We have never had a problem with them, our order has always been correct and either on time or early. I faxed my ID and had no problem getting our "adult beverages" for the week. I should add....the first time I used GG, I goofed up and put our check out date instead of our check in date during a busy time of year. I figured this out 2 weeks before the trip and they were FANTASTIC about fixing it. They didn't charge me or give me a hassle over my goof up and all of our items arrived on time. Never tried we go shop, but I don't want to wait around for the delivery and I certainly don't want to pay 13% for using my credit card. I go to GG website, place and pay for the order and it's there when we arrive.

You're gonna put food in your shoes? That's just gives me the willies thinking about it. I know it's in a plastic bag but still. It's up there with the commercial or movie where the mother sees the kid with brown stuff all over his hands. And mom says is that poop or chocolate and then tastes it and says it's chocolate! Shutter. :crazy2: BTW, we usually just pack socks into our shoes.

Marge at WeGo was very nice & helpful on the phone when I called to ask questions. I liked that I could specify EXACTLY what I wanted and that they would give me the receipt. However, they're a smaller organization and their delivery slots fill up further in advance so you need to place your order earlier if you're going at a busy time of year. Also, they prefer that you're there to receive the order and that you pay with cash. That doesn't always work out for us. They will accept a credit card and leave the order with Bell Services BUT when I checked, they charged like an additional 13% fee to use a credit card.:sad2: Garden Grocer does not charge extra to do that. And finally, their delivery fee was like $5 higher than Garden Grocer's so I figured the small price markup at GG would be a wash for the few items we wanted. Finally, by ordering from the items on their website I knew in advance what I'd be paying - with WeGo you won't know your final total until you get there. The real kicker for me tho with WeGo was that 13% fee to use a credit card if we weren't there to receive the order.

We just came back from WDW and used We Go Shop for our grocery delivery. I priced our order on Garden Grocer and even though we were over the $200 required for free delivery, it was still cheaper to go with We Go Shop. Prior to placing my order, I asked Marge if there was an additional fee to use a CC and she said "No". Granted, we'd ordered adult beverages and were in the room when the groceries were delivered - perhaps that is the difference?

Overall, we were very pleased with Marge's service. Amy was our shopper; she purchased everything as requested. She even called while shopping to clarify one of the items.

We've used Garden Grocer previously and were satisfied with the price/service. However, I like being able to specify the exact items - we'll use Marge's service next time for that reason.

I'm with DenLo on the packing.

I believe the movie referred to was "Baby Mama," but I'm not positive.

I won't describe the scene again. It was gross.

out of curiousity i just looked up frosted flakes 14 oz box through DVC grocery and through garden grocer (frosted flakes was the first cereal i saw)
DVC 7.75 garden grocer 4.19.. exact same product and size.

Crazy. I guess we are going to give garden grocer a try.. we usually bring a suitcase dedicated to breakfast foods, quick snacks, water and juice.. this year our children will be 3 and 6 so we will probably not be able to share a suitcase. so we were trying to figure out our best option. From the reviews i have seen garden grocer really seems to be a great option

Yes. First of all, it is in commercial packaging. I am NOT eating the foil wrapping from around my granola bar are you? 2nd, DS's shoes that I used I just washed the other day and they have not been worn since and DH's shoes I put in a plastic Target bag and stuffed the bag inside the shoes - then I stuffed the Costco Trail mix bags in on top of the bag. NOT a big deal IMHO. Like I said, I am not eating the packaging and I highly doubt it's going to taste like poop. I packed our socks, underwear, PJ's and bathing suits in packing cubes and the put them in compression space bags. That way when we get there I take out the packing cubes to put in the drawers and I have space bags to use for dirty laundry on the way home.
