This is our 4th visit to DW and I think DD(5) and I are going to do this afternoon tea this year.
I am a little confused. Looking on allears at the menu, is any of this 'buffet' style where you get up and serve yourself, or is it all served to you? Either is fine, I just was a bit confused. Also, Ironically enough, I'm not a tea drinker, can i swap the tea with the different 'offerings' for their coffee mentioned on the menu?
DH and DS (6) have agreed to let us do our girl thing, they have no interest in a tea party. :) Can anyone suggest a location in GF or maybe even Polynesian for them to eat their lunch at?
TIA my dd is going to be THRILLED!:lovestruc

1) It is not buffet
. . . you order a package or ala carte
. . . it is brought to you at the table
2) You can get tea, coffee, chocolate milk, or booze (I assume soft drinks, also).
3) Let the kids eat outside at the Pool Bar.

There is no buffet, the waitress comes to your table. You will get a choice of which pastries you would like for your dessert or you could choose to have the strawberries and whip cream instead. If you go with the pastries, the waitress will come to your table with a tiered platter with the different pastries for you to choose from. As for anything other than tea, I am not too sure about that since I am a tea drinker. Have a great time with your DD, it is really a unique experience. My DD9, DD7, and I are doing this on Mother's day. DH is going to have to find lunch somewhere else :goodvibes

Just to clarify that the perfectly princess tea party is in the morning at the Garden view tea room.

Or you can make a reservation to have afternoon tea at the Garden view tea room. Think it is open between 2 and 5pm. You order off a menu. There are some set teas including the mrs potts for kids or order a la carte.

We did the princess tea party in October and i'm planning on taking my DD for the afternoon tea this trip.

What exactly is the perfectly princess? and how much? I've never heard of it before. I wish we could get in before 2pm, but alas, it is afternoon tea. ;)

DD8 and I did the afternoon tea last year- we had made the first reservation of the day...2pm..and I have to say, although we are not frou-frou at all, we just loved it and really enjoyed ourselves. DD8 got the Mrs. potts kids tea, but she wanted regular tea instead of the choc. milk, which was no problem. That tea comes with pb and j tea sandwiches, ham and cheese and tuna salad. After they arrived the only one she liked was the pbj and the waitress happily brought her several more when we mentioned DD did not love the others--she had noticed them nibbled, then untouched.

For pastries DD was allowed 3 even tho the menu states 2. She chose one swan pastry, which had very little flavor, and 2 chocolate covered strawberries which were beautiful.

I had the largest tea available that comes with the champagne. $25.50, I believe. I chose the Mad Hatter tea and it was very nice. The champagne was very dry-I did not care for it. The various tea sandwiches that come with this tea were all very good. Bread a bit dry, maybe.

The onion tart was better than I imagined and what I got of the scone with fresh devonshire cream was delightful, but DD confiscated it and snarfed it down. She did not realize I only had the one scone and apologized for eating it, but I did not mind because I was shortly thereafter served the English Trifle which I chose instead of choosing off the pastry tier like DD. Now THIS was worth the whole $25.50! Strawberries and Devonshire Cream with a pastry something and jam mixed in...truly fantastic and even tho I wanted to, I could NOT finish it! So rich and wonderful.

I would go back just for that trifle.

Our Ratings of Afternoon Tea at GF: (rev 1/1/11)
. . . food price value: B
. . . food quality: C+
. . . food quantity per serving: C
. . . food prep speed: B
. . . food selection: C
. . . seating quantity: C
. . . seating comfort: A
. . . eatery atmosphere: B+
. . . eatery convenience: C
. . . staff friendliness: B
. . . staff helpfulness: B

NOTE: The "Tea" is in a friendly atmosphere, a relaxing way
to put a break in the day, with low noise level and seldom any
loud talking. A negative for the true tea aficionado, is they
serve only Pekoe (BP & BOP) tea, hence, the "C+" for quality.
However, the food is a "B".

As far as tea goes, I would def need coffee and sparkling wine! :thumbsup2
I think I will go ahead and book it. DD will be overjoyed. She is my sidekick and it's really she and I who plan the trips. lol BUT this is going to be a surprise...as hard as it will be on me to do so.

Our friends will be down in DW at the same time, so I think we will meet up with she and her daughter and do a girlie date. :)

Chocolate milk for tea...SO CUTE!

Half of the menu I don't understand, as pp said, I'm not froufrou. lol We've done locale strawberry shortcake at an older home with coffee and such for Canada Day and she LOVED it. Boys hated the tiny sandwiches and just wanted McDonalds afterwards because they were still hungry. :confused3 Boys!

So this is all OOP right? No DDP included?

Love your stories!! I didnt even know exactly what the trifle was (Anything can be made into a trifle can it not?...see I don't know!lol) But saw some pics on the food porn, YUM!! Will try the cuc sandwich but leaving room for dessert! lol And Choc Strawberries, dd will LOVE that. Oh I can't wait to pamper her.

Trifle is typically custard, fruit (strawberries or raspberries) and fresh cream. Oh and some add sponge cake or lady fingers spread with jam or not--in the bottom.

Now I want some..:rolleyes1

Slightly OT, but is the afternoon tea for children only, or is it appropriate for me and my 21 year old?

I'm doing this with my girls on our next trip. Can't wait.

And snykymom-the afternoon tea is for everyone. It would be totally appropriate for you to go with your daughter! I hope you do! Have fun!

Oh noooo....it's perfect for you and your 21yr old! Not that many kids that I have seen really...not small ones.:confused3

The afternoon tea is perfect for adults. I enjoy this a lot! The incredibly expensive special "Perfect Princess" tea is geared towards little girls accompanied by a parent, and is not conflicting with the 2pm - 6pm afternoon tea hours. Kids are welcome at the regular tea hours, too.

Make an ADR for this. The Garden View Lounge is small, and I've had to wait close to an hour as a walk-up. I expected this and had a book with me. Do the ADR if you can.

I'm doing this with my 3 girls in September. My oldest is happy she can get real tea with the Mrs. Pots tea. My younger 2 will enjoy the chocolate milk.

I just did all of my ADRs on Friday, and this was a must for my DD7 and I. We are sending DH and DS13 to ESPN for the afternoon, then meeting at Epcot later.

By the way, my mum here in Australia makes trifle a lot for special occasions and it is delicious!! :lovestruc

Us too. My husband and my aunt who will be with us have NO interest in going to tea, so they are going to the pool or mini-golfing and we're meeting back at the hotel later. Last time we didn't get any time apart for the whole week. It'll be nice to have some mommy/daughter time.

my sisters and I took my mother on mothers day 2009 for the afternoon tea, it was awesome.we also ordered a special cinderella s slipper cake for her dessert, that was amazing! The sandwiches were very good and like yourself I was not a tea drinker till I ordered the russian earl grey I must have drank a whole pot to myself, actually I think it was 2 pots !The triffle I agree with the other persons post it was THE best I have ever had!We are going back to the world the end of September and will be dining there once again, your daughter and you are gonna love it!:lovestruc

No, not just for kids at all...as a matter of fact, I think everyone would prefer that only those kids well-mannered enough to appreciate the tea be present. It is a more elegant, quiet, but not stuffy, type of experience. We had tea amongst grandmothers, moms, daughters, a well behaved toddler and even a DH/DW couple. The man did not seem out of place at all.
