We are preparing for our very first garage sale. I somehow have managed to avoid it up to this point in my life. :) I am also not someone who regulary garage sales so I have no idea what to price things at. I don't want too price too low or too high. What are some standard prices for the following types of items:

Baby clothes (not brand name like Gap or Gymboree)
Music CDs
Paperback and Hardback Books
DVD's

Thanks!

At garage sale things go cheap...if you want better money for them try putting the clothes up in lots on ebay....books too. At garage sales books go for like 10 cents each..hardly worth bothering, I've bought CD's for 50 cents, same with DVD's. Try ebay for things like that...for junky knick knacks then garage sale is the place for those. I ried putting baby clothes out at our garage sale and the people would come..."I'll give you 25 cents for this outfit"...PLEASE...I can put them up in lots on ebay and get 10 times that for each item!

Anything over $2 or 3 dollars, price a little higher than what you actually hope to get from it ... people WILL try and haggle on price.

Price low and make deals!! I just had one today with friends, and I didn't have too much to sell.. a box of Beanie Babies and some old table linens of my MIL's... I made $50!

I had one with my neighbor in June and we made a lot of money. Most of what we sold was clothes too.

We sold kids clothes for:

jeans/pants 2.00
long sleeve shirts 1.50
short sleeve shirts 1.00
pajamas 1.00
sweaters 2.50
skirts/skorts 1.75

We just made up a big sign over the tables, and didn't bother pricing things individually, except for a few special, more expensive items. For the most part, nobody haggled with us unless they had a huge stack of clothes. We always gave them a deal then.

I think it depends on where you live. I've had garage sales at my sister's house 45 minutes away and things don't sell as well there.
