Sorry to sound like such a downer, but if I went to your yard sale I would probably think that the prices were a bit high. Not for everything, of course.... the toys and books and craft stuff sounds fine.... but the purses at $4 and the lamp for $10 seems very high to me. Are the purses some sort of designer bag that is in demand? And the picture frames/clock/candle holders at $4 also sound high. MOst of the other stuff sounds reasonable. At least there is room for people to dicker with you. HOpe you have a great sale! ............................P

The prices sound reasonable to me. Just be sure to lower prices as the day wears on if there are things you really do not want. There was a town wide garage sale in our town last weekend. I was amazed at the vast differences in the way people presented their items. Be sure that every item is priced. I refuse to even look at what they have if I have to ask how much. Low prices, on CLEAN merchandise will sell the fastest. Group like things together. Put several toys (or any other similar items) in zip lock bags and sell them together as a bargain. Instead of 25¢, put them in a baggie @ 4/99¢ Good luck!

Thanks for your replys! A friend told me to price things a bit high because people would want to bargin even if the prices were low to begin with.

The lamp was originally $250, but it is about 10 years old. It's still a great piece of furnitre! The purses are fossil and were originally around $75. They are both in great condition. The picture frames/clock/candle holders are new and still in their boxes (wedding gifts we never used). I think they are lennox crystal.

I'm working on cleaning everything up, pricing, and making lots of signs now!

Thanks again!!!

Amy

I think your prices sound great based on the quality--Lennox frames.wish I lived close by: I"d buy the lot!

Good luck, Amy. I had a very successful yard sale at the last minute and you might find some of my tips helpful.

I'm having trouble linking you to the thread although I did find it. It is titled, "I made $1300 dollars at my yard sale."

Let us know how you made out. Threehearts

The sale just ended and we made $256. I'm really happy with that amount because we didn't have a lot of big ticket items. My house is so clean now and ready to be filled with baby stuff!

Some notes:

- Someone bought our entire VHS collection for $20 (after we had already sold about 10 movies). There were probably around 40 tapes to begin with and NO kids movies.

- The costume jewlery was a big hit. I had it in individual baggies in a nice basket with some pieces hanging up on display.

- We used nice shelves and tables from our house to place things on and had lots of people stop to ask if we were selling them, then look around and buy other stuff. We also had a bunch of fall decorations out.

- We sold all of the crystal pieces (even a bride and groom statue), but regular glass items didn't sell at all.

- All the electric stuff went fast (drill, blender, griddle, phone). We had an otlet available for people to test with and they appreciated that.

Thanks again for all the great advice I've gotten here!!

Amy
