Garage sale - children selling drinks?

My daughter always sells drinks. We put a bunch in the fridge to cool them down and some in a cooler with ice the night before so they will be cold. She sells cans of drinks: Coke, Diet Coke, DP, Mountain Dew and lots of water bottles. She makes a lot of money on hot days.:cool1:

LilyWDW you are right. The article did not show the background information. I just thought it was appropriate timing since I had just read it on these boards. Updated article shows the county has backed down.

BTW I try to purchase from homemade lemonade stands too. Even if not planning to consume the item. I believe this is a great way to get kids to be entrepreneurs and hard workers. As long as they sell it for $1 or less I try to support it. I've seen one or two ask for $3 a glass  for a non-charity lemonade stand.

Hi everyone - I'm usually a lurker but I need opinions today!

I am having a garage sale this Friday and it is going to be HOT outside. My oldest daughter is 5 and she is saving money for an American Girl doll. I was considering having her set up a little table with drinks and possibly treats such as donuts for the AM and cookies for the afternoon. Does anyone have any success stories or suggestions?

Thanks so much!

I used to be part of a Mother's Club that did a neighborhood yard sale twice a year. We often had kids of one of the mothers, set up a stand to sell coffee and muffins in the morning. They always sold out.

I hope you all had fun today. My DD has done a snack stand that past two years during our yard sale and did great both times. We made a cute sign and at the bottom put "Earning money for Mickey Bars".

Of course a lot of people didn't know what Mickey Bars were so she would enlighten them. :goodvibes

Thanks for all of the help everyone - my daughter sold all of her cinnamon rolls and a decent number of drinks. We even had a neighbor stop back by as we were closing up and ordered a dozen more cinnamon rolls! All-in-all, she made a little over $30 so she earned enough to get her doll! She did awesome - she was a great little sales girl so I think this was a wonderful experience for her.

Thanks for the help!

DD8 and the girl next door sold water and cookies at the neighbors garage sale. Bottled water and they also did the break and bake cookies, they prepackaged them the night before the yard sale by wrapping three cookies in plastic wrap. Cookies were .50 and bottled water was $1. They made a killing. Had to close down half way through the yard sale because they ran out.

I know it's too late for your sale (congrats to her, btw!) but one thing my son really loves making to sell are pretzel rods dipped in frosting (nuked to soften) and then rolled in sprinkles. It's cheap, fun to make and the kids LOVED them! I think he sold them for $.50 each or 3/$1.25. He also had a combo deal of one pretzel and one cup of lemonade for $.75 (lemonade was $.50 for a cup).
