Gameboy advice - need help please

Thanks for the great advice everyone. Here's what I ended up with: Donkey Kong Country (came with the gameboy), Harry Potter Quidditch, snowboarding (because it was $10 in the clearance bin and DS likes to snowboard), a combo game of Ms. Pac Man, Galaga and some other 80's games that DH and I will probably like to play;) and Super Mario 4. Not sure if the last one is a keeper. I'd like to get a baseball one instead but haven't read any good reviews for the baseball games. Anyway, we may keep Mario as both grandmas want to get him a game so two of the above will be from them (lest you think I'm a completely indulgent parent). I know I should get a Pokemon game after all the great reviews but to tell you the truth, I am sooo tired of hearing about Pokemon and Yugioh-that's all DS talks about! I'm probably being a bad mom for not getting him that.

We ended up getting DD (almost 5) the new leapster instead of a gameboy. DH and I played with it last night after kiddies went to bed and it is sooo cool! I'd highly recommend it. I think DS (7) will think it's cool, too. I've only seen it at Toys R Us so far but I think it should be at other places soon. Thanks again for your help!!

Ooooohhhh, can you give some more info on the Leapster..I have been looking for it, it sounds really neat!! I had been looking on Amazon and saw it was supposed to be released/shipped November 6th but then pushed back to November 23rd so I did not bother looking in TRU tonight, but I will check tomorrow!

We did tonight pick up a GBA SP for DS for his 4th bday next week. We got a great dea...We had 13 of the $5.00 reward zone certificates for Best Buy so we purchased it there, and the 2 year service plan (for 10 bucks with a 4 year old, could not pass it up) and it was around $45.00:hyper: But a few weeks ago we were in Best Buy and noticed they had some of the Donkey Kong Country for GB Color for .99 CENTS::yes:: ::yes:: So we had to pick it up, even if we never used it LOL. Then tonight after going to Best Buy we ran to Toys R Us and found Toy Story 2 for GB Color for 4.98!! So for under $51.00 we bought 2 games and the new system, not a bad little deal LOL!!

Thanks for any info on the Leapster, I am thinking for Christmas, but will it be to much with getting the GB? I figured something fun and something educational??

I saw the Leapster at ToysRUs too.... See if your nearest ToysRUs has it. Don't know a lot about it, but it is out now!

I went there to make a real side by side comparison of the GB Advance and the GB SP. Now I am asking my DH to see if he can get his parents to return the one they have bought for DS for Christmas for the SP model! It is a better screen. And, I think it will be better for small 5 year old hands too!

dvcfamily - we got our leapster at toys r us for $79.99. They said they just got them in Friday night. They have 4 additional games to choose from and there is also a cartridge with 6 games included in the package. There are more games listed on the package but right now they only have 4 of them. They told us they'd hopefully get the others before Xmas. Anyway, the graphics are really good IMO. It looks like a game you'd play on your computer. It's easy to hold and has a volume button (yeah). When I read the package it sounded fun but I wasn't convinced - that's why we tried it out. It's actually a lot better than we thought it'd be. DD has never asked for a gameboy which is why I was reluctant to get her one but I think she'll really like this. One thing I thought was cool is when you go to the coloring mode you can hit weather buttons (like snow or rain) and it actually has falling snow - not just a picture of flakes (hope that makes sense). And when you go to the animal section you can attach an animal to a page (like a butterfly) and it flies around the picture. Also, when it tells you to use the stylus pen or the direction arrows those things light up so the kid will know which one to use. I think each game has 3 levels so you can start easy and move up and at least one of the matching games we tried showed your time at the end so you could play again and try to beat your previous score. DH wanted to open it up again tonight and play with it. Can you tell we're just a couple of big kids:tongue: Hope you can find one and congrats on your great deals!

DD (5) just popped up the other day that Santa was going to bring her a game boy. She has never really been into video games. Her big cousin (12) has a bunch of them. Auntie has bought most of them starting with regular game boy, color advanced and who remembers what else.

I have not decided wether Santa will bring her one or not yet.

Thank you so much!! I am going to head to TRU this am and check it out, I love getting so excited for kids toys:hyper: :hyper:
