Afternoon all.
Only 4 weeks and counting!!!!!!!!!!!

We're thinking about buying some birthday presents 4 the kids when we're in Florida e.g. gameboy advane at $100 from Walmart. At £57 this is a load cheaper than in the UK.

We know the rules on how much we can bring back with us.

The question for this afternoon is.... will gameboys bought in the US work in the UK. Is there either anything different about games etc... or about battery chargers etc , which would make this a bad idea to think about.

Sorry if this is a "noddy" question, but would appreciate your feedback.

Many thanks

HI Pricefamily

We are intending on buying GBA SP's for two of my lads. the games are exactly the same , compatability wise, but wow are they cheaper.

As for the GBA SP's themselves, when you charge it up in this country you will have to use an adaptor socket for the wall socket plug.

I don't know anything about the GameBoy but check that it operates on UK voltage as well as USA voltage. You may have to buy a transformer as well as an adaptor.

Rob

We bought one for DD last year and have had no problems with any connectors or games.

All the same stuff works.

Cheers

Are electronic goods such as game boys and digital cameras cheaper in the U.S . Is it worth while buying them??? apart from the power supply they should work.

steve

just to answer my own question. A HP ps 733 digital camera at walmart cost $178 ( around £98) , the same camera from dabs.com cost £149.

You will certainly need a transformer..............and the GB Advance SP was cheaper at "Game " in the Florida Mall in December.

Definitely worth buying though, especially at those savings.

You can have my son's. Just kidding.

Check out Electronic Boutique. I believe they have a store at The Mall at Millenia. Sometimes they run specials. Buy the Sunday paper and check insert adds. They also sell cases for them made by Phat Pack, which have all kinds of neat stuff.

Here are some places to look.

www.amazon.com

Amazon and Toys R Us are in partnership.

I would take Rob's advice as our stuff isn't made to hold up to your electric. I blew out a curling iron last time I was in the UK with using just a socket adaptor.

Just get a UK GB Advance SP charger from 'Game' - own brand one is £6.99. Works fine on the 2 we bought at Christmas from WalMart.

Mike:)

Go to The CD store in Belz they sell smart carrying cases fir $5 we bought 2 in December,I was going to get my daughter the cat in the hat game it was $29.99 less than £20 but forgot to go back,I asked in Game about it here on my return its not out until April here! I told the guy O just saw it in The States He says how much I tell him he says it will be £29.99 when they get it and I should have bought one in The States !! Thats when I had to remove my fingers from his throat:-)

Do games for the GBA have region coding like DVD films?

Good news...no, all the carts from all regions work in all GBA/GBA SP.

The only difference with the GBA SP is that the charger is not dual voltage, ie you can't use a US one here, or a UK one there. Replacement chargers are available in the UK, see GAME above.

My 4 yr old loves hers, kept her quiet for at least 10 minutes in September!

Yes iPods bought in the USA work fine in the UK. The power pack that comes with them is universal (so it will work with UK and USA voltages) and everything else is standard. If you buy an iPod in the USA the power pack will come with the standard USA 2-pin plug but you can buy convertors from the Apple Store to change this to UK 3-pin, European 2-pin and a whole range of other countries. At the current exchange rate I think buying an iPod would give you a good deal.

IAN

You saved your money mate.........take it from me The Cat in the Hat game is VERY poor. Within 2 weeks it was re-packed and given by DD to a friend for her birthday.

Anyone recommend where we could buy an iPod while we are over there?

Julie

And the good news about buying over there in a WalMart means any problems, it can be returned directly to your nearest ASDA:D They also honour any clothing bought in the States, as long as it is (obviously) returned in as good as condition as when you bought it.

hi, i work in the george dept in asda wallasey, and we will except returns from walmart, but it would be worth checking with your local store just incase susie
