Hi - where would i fly into for galveston cruises? From the ny area air for the school breaks is so high i wanted to explore other options. So is it near an airport? Missy

You really only have two options - Hobby as mentioned above (airport code HOU), or Bush Intercontinental (IAH). Hobby is closer to the port, but it is a smaller airport which not every airline flies into. DCL is doing transfers from both airports.

Were flying into Houston- George Bush (IAH). It was a couple hundred per person less than Hobby with better arrival and departure times.

We are doing DCL transfers with an estimated travel time to Galveston of 70 minutes.

It is more like 90, I am not sure why they put an estimated time of 70. I live 10 minutes from HOU and it takes me 45 to drive to galveston and an hour to drive to IAH. You have to pass by where I live to get to Galveston so I do not see 70 as doable. Traffic is always a pain too. Either way you are going on a Disney cruise!

HOU is closer to Galveston than IAH, but IAH is an international airport, so it offers more airlines and flight options. I live half way betw/ Houston and Galveston and depending on the time of day, I can get from my house to IAH in 45 minutes. Galveston is about 20 minutes south of where I live; so 70 minutes from IAH to the port is a reasonable guesstimate, but not going to be accurate all the time. It all depends on the time of day for travel, as well as the day of the week, and the ALL annoying TRAFFIC. LOL! As long as you are on DCL transfers, I wouldn't worry about the actual travel time from IAH to Galveston, as you won't be the driver and getting annoyed by the traffic. ;)

Happy sailing! :sail:

70 minutes is a reasonable time not during rush hour. I worked at IAH for 5 years (Lived in the Woodlands) and its doable. It would take us 85-90 from the Woodlands and thats 20 minutes further from IAH. Taking US59 out of IAH, or even better the hardy to 610 to 59, is great until just before downtown. That being said were having friends do our transfers. Time to visit some old friends before the cruise!

If you're looking into flying into HOU, Southwest is the major carrier there. I'm sure a few other airlines fly there, but Southwest is king at HOU. --Katie

Are they going to have a ship there after May? The Magic leaves then for the EBTA and the Meds.

The Wonder will be in Galveston starting September 2013, I think

I'll be on an American Airlines flight from Chicago to Houston Hobby.

I just checked the fares from SMF (Sacramento) and HOU was $150 more than IAH. $533/$383
