I cannot run the whole thing. I do not know why, but the galloway calculator link given is different than the information given by galloway through the RunDisney site. I am following the galloway half training program given through that site.
One thing I've learned about Galloway is he has a ton of different plans. For example in the half marathon.
Galloway website: 2 plans
Galloway book on running: 1 "to finish" and 4 Time Goal
Half Marathon You can do it: Beginner, "to finish" and 5 Goal Time
Run Disney Website: Multiple very close but not identical to Half Marathon You can do it:
All of these have different programs.
He also has the "Galloway Training Programs" but I've never seen it to know how the plans differ from the other ones.
I think 2:50 is more than doable for you. When is your race?
I definitely can't do a full mile without a walk break. The best I have ever done is 5:1s where only 1 of the 1 min walk breaks fell within the mile!
It does get better with time. Just be sure to increase your distance gradually or you run the risk of injury.
I have accepted that Galloway is the best method for me, and I don't really care if others think I am not a real runner because I take walk breaks!
My half marathon in April 3rd. So I'm in Taper/Final interval tweaking. I bet if you slowed way down, you could do a full mile without a walk it. My Magic Mile time is currently 10:30 with walk breaks. My 2 mile no walk break time is 27:00 (13:30 mile).
Ah, I need to get his book but which one?
That's a tough call. I have
"Galloway's book on Running". It's a bit older, so I doesn't have Magic Mile, and recommended run walk ratios. But It's a solid book, and you can find used copies cheap on
Amazon (Just make sure you get 2nd edition).
Half Marathon:You can do It is much newer but focus only on the Half marathon.
You can preview those books online before buying.
Galloway Training Programs is the current book used in his training plans. Covered 10 miler, half marathon, and marathon. It's fairly new so not too many used copies around.
The Galloway Extra Mile Podcast is offering a $5 discount on the starter bundle of the book combined with a GymBoss Interval Timer.
I would lean towards "Galloway's book on Running" if money is an issue, and look at the preview for Half marathon:You can do it for the Magic Mile information. Or the Starter Kit with "Galloway Training Programs" and the Interval timer, if you can afford a little bit more. I don't have the "Training Programs" book so hopefully someone can give me more information about it.
